I'm needing a new start. Ready for love some day. So hard to find someone to trust and who will love me as I am. It is so very difficult. This song just seems to make it all feel mellow.
In response to big2Kahuna, of course the world wasn't innocent and blacks were being discriminated and killed but the music made it all bearable no matter who you were. The great love songs like this one was about the music and the good memories among the sad and bad times. Why does everyone have to put down those who just enjoy sharing the songs. I was drafted, I knew what discrimination was but in the end it was great music that marked so much of my life and that I am grateful for.
whoever dislike this song is very stupid cuz this is a oldies classic in the reason why they call it a oldies cuz it never get old so respect this women in may god be with you all!
I was born later in the 60's. I agree with 99 out of 100. As most bloggers said the new "ME" aka Generation X, Y, Z do not want to understand what it means to waite, court, date, meet the girls parents, and earn their respect and confidence. I have a 13yr old and that is all I have been trying to pound in her head. I started dated her from she was 4yrs so she can know how a man should treat a woman. Girls stop giving it up too soon. Let the boy earn over a long period of time.
This song provides immediate memories of a lady I had one date with during the Summer of 1965. I was 17, she was 14 and her parents knew and liked my parents, so I was good enough for them to take their daughter out; even at her young age of 14.
Don't read anything else into this post. Thank You.
I was 14 and never had a boyfriend but I had a huge crush on this guy on my block. So this song fit me perfectly. Back then it was about the first kiss.
I remember this song from the summer of 1965. And another good song at the same time was Mel Carter "Hold Me, Thrill Me Kiss Me". Both songs bring back great memories of the summer of 1965 for me.
Memories: Center High School & The Blue Bacardi teen dance club. Dances with only the blue light bulb & juke box shining on the close dances. 'The Cross' in 1965-66 made for great memories & relationships that shall never die. Thanks.
Make sure you are "ready" not to lust, which entails having sex right away. Falling in "genuine love" encompasses knowing one another first, spiritually then all will fall together. The people of contemporary times don't understand the lyrics of this song, because they equate good looks, and saying "I love you" as meaning we can now have sex. No, emphatically no. Maybe that's why the AIDS virus and STD's are at epidemic proportions. Ladies make the man "work and earn" your love. It will pay off!
@truth1disciple I remember this record, my innocence, and just wanting to be in love. I'm glad I grew up when songs of love and peace brought all together. Barbara Mason's , "Hello Stranger" was another awesome song of love renewed.
@truth1disciple You are applying 21st Century morals to a song popular in the 60s. Though the ideal is right, the song is about teenage angst from that period. Your preaching to today's young people misses the meaning of the song entirely. It is a young girl's love plaint. Long before AIDS, HIV or STDs. It's naiveté at it's purest. Don't bog it down in other than what was intended, please. Some things are beautiful in their simplicity. :)
@Kingscrib Apparently you don't get the moral meaning of this beautiful, simplistic song. In times past women did not call themselves or others b...h, or guys call themselves or others dog. To be concise Kingscrib (romance) not nasty, freakish,we just met let's have sex forthwith is was common. You talk about simplicity teach and educate the people about sexual intercourse and its ramifications.
@truth1disciple After looking at your 'channel' I see that where you're coming from is faith based. But everything isn't viewed from that context. I know you'd like it to be, but reality is - it isn't. I grew up in that era & if you think girls didn't use the word bitch - think again. Whore was around too. And slut. Men may not have referred to each other as 'dog', but they had words far more vehent. Why choose to take your prosthyletising into this music forum? It's not church.
@Kingscrib Why do one have to go to church to "speak truth" to those who have ears to discern and understand the moral ways of life on earth. If appears that what I am speaking via this Youtube venue bothers you. Why? Look closely at times past and contemporay times. Did women dress as slutty and provocative as they do now? Did Aids, HIV, and the plethora of "sexually transmitted diseases that are prevalent now exist? Were the songs of past 50's-early 80"s blatantly sexually provocative? THINK?
@truth1disciple I never said anything about 'Church other than to say YouTube isn't one. As far as women dressing as "'slutty and provocative" [sic] is concerned, my dear, clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. You see it's MEN's perception which takes how a woman is dressed and attaches a label to it. You probably never heard Barbara Mason sing Yes, I'm Ready, but I grew up in that era and earlier. I KNOW what was intended & your own perception clouds the reality.
@Kingscrib Also, your ignorance of the long reality of the existence of HIV/AIDS, and the plethora of "sexually transmitted diseases" [sic], just shows that you don't research before you write! Sexually transmitted diseases have a long history. Syphilis was first reported in the 16th century. Some think syphilis is of ancient origin (Egypt) & perhaps mistakenly identified as leprosy. Syphilis became widely recognized about 1500, when a virtual epidemic swept Europe.
@Kingscrib Furthermore, Ms. Kingscrib if what I am saying perturbs you, don't read my messages, just listen to the music. And what you called "faith-based" is not where I am coming from, I was a former pimp, womanizer, adulterer, lying and conniving weapon taken captive by Satan, Lucifer, the devil whatever you and others want to call the great deceiver. I DO NOT and will not step foot in any modern day church, I speak to those I am "sent" to, those who desire to hear my God-inspired truth.
@truth1disciple Lastly...you don't perturb me. At all. Your posting this song, then your 'postulations' about its meaning, are what's offside. People who search for songs on YouTube do it to spend a moment reliving a memory. Not looking to have a neo-Christian prosthelytising, like a pastor to the masses. This isn't that kind of forum. I have absolutely no issue with you posting your ideological theories - just don't use music you don't relate to, to draw people into your web.
@Kingscrib You are of your father the devil and speak as one who represents his nefarious kingdom. Your argument is not with me you are verbally fighting God Almighty, I just represent. Apparently you have a Jezebel spirit and seek to control the male species with your verbal garbage. I hope you are not married because I feel sorry for your emasculated husband. Now to you Jezebel Kingscrib- Jesus Christ rebukes your satanic nature. I am finished with you and your deceptive and evil verbiage.
Music like this makes me wish I lived in the 60s and 70s, music was great back then. But I was born in 1980 and got to listen to the great music from 80s and 90s and of the music of the millennium just sucks.
Michael Menert from Pretty Lights remixed this song at his appearance for Snowboard on the Rocks in Colorado this month. If anyone knows what the song is titled that would be awesome!
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
What a summer, the summer of '65. Just graduated from highschool and me and my best friend just hung out at the lake where we lived and this song was one of the best of the year. I never get tired of hearing her sing and remembering all that the sound of her voice brings back like it was yesterday.
To witcherderrick That line is from another version of this song that Barbara Mason recorded in the late 70's. She does a "rap" (actually spoken word), that sounded like it might be part of her live act. i have the album on vinyl- It's " Give Me Your Love" Buddah Records 1972. The albums great- "Bed & Board","Who will you hurt Next" & "You Can Be w/The One You Dont Love" are 3 faves. peace
In 1965 I was a senior in high school and this song was me and my first love's song. She would sing it to me everyday and when we went out dancing this was our song to slow dance to. Each and every time I hear this song I think about all of the great times and that special young lady who stole my heart!!
@big2kahuna innocent? what world were you living in? must be safe and very white at the time, because black people were being killed on the streets ov america, and in vietna, innocent my ass. drugs, police, and the army ran our hoods, and killed our black leaders, the p;resident, his brotrher, malcom x, martin king, metger evens, a few jews in the south, and a few thousand more in the north. you damn fools and your lil-white world, innocent my asss, wake up old man and smell the truth cut thebs
@123kazee Life didn't stop for us then. Yes there was a lot going on, but everyone no matter what color lived and loved and got married and lived an everyday life, with our hopes and dreams and making memories, We were listening to this song at our school dances, at home, and on those Saturday night dates, no matter who we were.
@123kazee i agree with you man hahah this world has never been innocent and never will!! thats why everyday i pray for world peace;) john lennon had it right..only if all the people...
@demo2382 hold up hold up im 15 i was born on 1996 an now in days music has no style like back in tha days but i listen to nothing but oldies so u can speak 4 tha other 99.9% of kids
@spillingutz4 Nice! But I'm talking about how they have no choice to listen to crap because its on almost every radio station. You have to "search" for music like this or if your lucky, you have an oldie station that plays it. The only oldie station I have mainly plays classic rock during the day (which I dont mind) but you gotta be up late late night for them to play songs like this.
@Abinidad2 Are you sure about what you stated here~that Barbera wrote this ? Check out the Royalettes version ,same song ,but with white guys clearly doing the back ground vocals~~
question ! did the Royalettes record this first ? because up to now this was the only version I've ever heard. I've listened to both and it's basically the same arrangement right down to the perfectly placed sweeping string arrangement. and they both sound great~
@ozzybabe18 thats what its all about...listening to our music..back in the day, nothing better..and younger people need to listen to it and appreciate it..Its going to be around forever..thanks for parents!! I did the same with my daughter...isnt this beautiful??
i listen to rock but when i was young my mom always cranked the music while she was cleaning the house one of the songs she cranked was this one love it!
Our kids will never know, what we know. I use to think that was a good thing; NOW I don't know! All I really know is I'm SO GRATEFUL for my LIFE AND MY WIFE!!!
My first love in Steubenville Ohio-----John Miller--where in the world are you????? The excitement of being 15 and having you love me!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!
@ggblueam My mother has the 7" vinyl hit from 1972, last I checked. She recorded a response hit to Richard 'Dimples' Fields' 1981 hit "She's Got Papers On Me", called "She's Got The Papers (But I Got The Man)". Last time she was on the R&B charts was in 1984, with the dance hit "Another Man".
@tyrone181able Aye! It reached #2 on the Billboard R&B charts and #5 on the Hot 100 (#3 on the Cashbox top 100) in 1965. She wrote it herself. She was only SEVENTEEN! Teri DeSario and K.C. remade it in 1979, sending it to #2 on the Hot 100. Not very many look toward that version these days. So much the better.
Barbara Mason, Barbara Lewis,Motown,Temps,4 Tops, Sam and Dave, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrelle. It was a great time of wonderful music. They made such special music. I might add the great Tommy Edwards, Brook Benton and Johnny Mathis. They were all a part of my early life and I love them so much.
This song capsulizes a summer back in 65' on the south shore of Lake Erie..A club on the waterfront named Gem Beach attracted many kids who were vacationing with their parents from all over Ohio and Michigan..Many friendships were made that summer and this classic will always remind them of those good times..Thanks

Yes there was a lot going on, but everyone no matter what color lived and loved and got married and lived an everyday life, with our hopes and dreams and making memories, We were listening to this song at our school dances, at home, and on those Saturday night dates, no matter who we were.

@big2kahuna - I liked it too.
My favorite to dance to was earlier, with Nancy, my girlfriend at the time: "Angel Baby." She sang it in my ear, too. So nice!

@demo2382 hold up hold up im 15 i was born on 1996 an now in days music has no style like back in tha days but i listen to nothing but oldies so u can speak 4 tha other 99.9% of kids
spillingutz4 6 months ago
@spillingutz4 Nice! But I'm talking about how they have no choice to listen to crap because its on almost every radio station. You have to "search" for music like this or if your lucky, you have an oldie station that plays it. The only oldie station I have mainly plays classic rock during the day (which I dont mind) but you gotta be up late late night for them to play songs like this.

@Abinidad2 Are you sure about what you stated here~that Barbera wrote this ? Check out the Royalettes version ,same song ,but with white guys clearly doing the back ground vocals~~
tedkay 10 months ago
question ! did the Royalettes record this first ? because up to now this was the only version I've ever heard. I've listened to both and it's basically the same arrangement right down to the perfectly placed sweeping string arrangement. and they both sound great~

Barbara Mason I'm ready is a hit just ask my fans.
tyrone181able 1 year ago
