Schuster was obssesed with using the word intimidated. Bernie, being the journalist he is, didn't feel that was an aptly applied word. Ultimately Benie was right.
I'm down with Bernie. He can be an ass at times but thats not that big a deal to me. I would probally snap off at people from time to time too if I had to deal with fans and callers like he does. EVERYONE has had a conversation with THAT GUY who's a complete dumbass. Bernie just calls it for what it is.
as Terry sang many moons ago: "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire/Scott Frost nipping at your crevass"......' happy holidays b and b freaks..............
Dan just calls it like he sees it and tries to cut through the BS that is so prevalent in sports, and in particular, sports journalism. He can be abrasive, at times, but I generally agree with most of the things he says.
Also, Schuster can be a prick, too. I remember watching a Tribune Live episode where the beat reporter for the Blackhawks (his name's escaping me, but I know his first name was Chris) made some innocent comment about the Bulls, and Schuster nastily asked him if he had even ever watched a Bulls game. Dunno - I find Schuster to be very defensive. Say what you will about Bernstein, but when Bernstein fucks up, he'll willingly take his medicine (see, Who Ya Crappin on numerous occasions)
@jmmbcm222 -Dan's a bit of a jerk, but really all he's doing is holding callers to their words. Callers get on and make outrageous statements and he asks them to justify their position. Most of the time they can't because a lot of the callers speak in generalities. This is what happened here. Schuster said that Derrick was 'intimidated' by LeBron. Dan said that Derrick wasn't 'scared' of LeBron and Schuster responded that he didn't say he was scared. Intimidated obviously = scared.
Every moment of his life is a debate club meet. His "superior intelligence" gets lost real quick when goes jag bag on coworkers, callers, and guests. What a jerk. Whether hes right or wrong, he is completely unlikeable in all aspects. Mental bully.
Whether or not it's worked doesnt justify it. You could say that its worked very well for a bully in school who's pockets are lined with others school money. Obviously Dan is not doing that but the analogy works. He has all these little pet peeves to create the conflicts he desires to flex his mental superiority over all. I am sure he lives a good life and makes a better living than most. His show is obviously successful and long termed. He's still a jerk.
To figure out why I'm an asswhipe

Dan's an a-hole, but so am I, and I'm not into the self hatred thing. At least not 100% of the time.
