  • That just blew my mind! The cat had so much talent.......

  • Sammy was a real GENIUS.

  • My hero since I was a child. From the age of 6 to... now. He could jam on other instruments too. He could do it all..and he did. I saw him live seven times from the fifties through the eighties. His life consumed him, finally. But he never gave anything but his best on stage.Thank you, sir

  • Is that billy butter field on trumpet?

  • Wow, he was so talented. Didnt know he played the drums like that!

  • oh my good !!

  • Pure talent. Period.

  • lol, "I'm sort of novice at this sort of thing"

  • back then, to make it you had 2 actually have talent!

  • At 2:49 it sounds like one of his tapping dancing routines, just on the hihat.

  • He said he was a novice at playing the drums? : )

  • definitely cool, for sure. And to think this wasn't a full time thing for him.

  • Respect! Definitely one of the greatest entertainers ever.

  • @donnaweiss1 Don't forget that this man was also a dancer.....actually I suspect that Charlie Watts, with his Jazz background, could do this. Another drummer of the pop genre whom I suspect would have been able to was Tony Meehan.(shadows)

None of the above takes anything away from Davis who was a consummate performer. Greater than Sinatra IMHO.

  • Brilliant!

  • The Master at work, Look and learn!!

  • A little taste of Philly Joe in there... very, very nice.

  • The Candy man Can! Miss this Cat!

  • I miss you Sammy.

  • CandyMan is spankin' his bunz off!!!

  • better then krupa

  • @musc124 I don't know about that....a bit of a stretch, although SDJr. was awesome!!! Cheers!

  • You know Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived in this world. Unless, you're just one of those people that Have to debate everything.

  • This is why there's no talent today! Sammy used it all up!!! He could do EVERYTHING!!

  • The undisputed talent of all-time.He did everything!

  • 5'4 inches of super cool ! Sammy's a wonder !

  • Smooth...

  • I had no idea. You dumbass Travis Barker freaks need to go eat shit.

  • Mike Portnoy WHO?

  • THIS is why I want to punch people in the nutz who blithely say "Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer of all times." Wrong. Unless, you are too young to know Sammy Davis, Jr., you have no excuse to spout such stupidity. Ever see Sammy's pitch-perfect imitations? Ever see Sammy act? Sammy do comedy effortlessly? Sammy dance? Sammy sing? Obviously, you can make a case for Michael in some of those categories, but certainly, not others. Sammy was the total entertainment package ...

  • @fretbuzz59 -- yup, and thus my comment "unless you are too young ..."

  • @maddymud Oh yeah, you did say that. D'oh! "Hello, Lenscrafters?"

  • @maddymud

I have seen both MJ and Sammy Davis in concert. The term "Entertainer" is past out to easy. Sammy Davis put out a better show , all Talent multi gifted with No special effects needed. Sammy was the "REAL DEAL" ! and lets not forget his acting and comedic routines.

  • @58manoa here, here ...

  • A GOD!!!!!!

  • The Incredible Sammy cuts a rug on more than the dance floor. What a display!!! Thumbs up to SD jr.,you learn something each and everyday on YOUTUBE!!! Great posting and thanks!!

  • Wow

  • as an aspiring drummer at 10 yrs of age, i remember my parents calling me to watch sdjr on television, playing drums. it was on a period set w/darkened calfskin heads, & image has endured....this cat was "tough stuff" on drums!!

another youtube vid w/him & buddy rich "chumming it up" testimony to this righteous talent!! much thanks to poster!

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!

  • The Master

  • A fitting example of when the term 'legend' can really be used. If you watch the Xfactor you'd think that they were reinventing the wheel-if anything show biz has taken huge backward steps since the 50's. Robbie Williams sells out stadiums-go figure

  • Great touch for a "NOVICE".

  • LET'S GO, Sammy!!!!!

    That's beautiful stuff....

  • Biiiiig big Man !!! Thumbs Up !!!

  • My God! What couldn't Sammy do?

  • @Entropy56 Well put my MAN -Left me out of breath, -feet a tapping- Heart thumpin. where oH ! where is there T, I said T YES T. A. L .L. E .N .T. LIKE THIS?- SAM IS THE MAN, he bin the man since he was a boy.

I have loved him and I mean loved him sice the first time I saw him in black and white. Bless ya Sammy and al your kith and kin. Know what ? I AM GONNA DO WHAT THE MAN SAID. PLAYIT AGAIN Sam. hey you tube.

take a bow, ILOVE YOU TOOOOOOOOO MAX

  • I played drums from '60-'67 with a blue sparkle Rogers kit. Sammy Davis Jr was one of my inspirations. There will never again be someone more talented.

  • Gotta remember Sammy could dance to. Ever see Fred Astaire drum? He could hit the skins too. A true sense of rhythm is needed with the coordination to drum it.

  • WOW

    Thanks for sharing.

  • FANTASTIC! Is there anything Sammy tried and was BAD at?! :)

  • nothing NEVER tried anything which turned out to be bad.. However, he sang "BAD" by Michael Jackson :P:P:P:P:P

  • Watching the 'non-drummers' drum is more inspiring than watching the legends. Cause now I can say, 'SHIT, well if Sammy Davis can do it.....'

I love that Rogers kit too!

  • @bongoboy1935 What do you mean, "well if Sammy can do it" ??

  • hells ya.
