I've played against Jace on MTGO and never won a game after he came out. He's way overpowered and it was a good move to ban him.
For some reason Rosewater and the Wizard boys favor blue over any other color. They need to tone Blue down and make Red more diverse and powerful. Red always gets hosed and I'm sick of it.
also i know you know, its ban now, do you feel like an asshole? good job!! jace effect is not even fucking fun.. jace fucking kill magic.. imo i think they are trying to compete with other card game using jace, the card is fucking 100$ any other card close to that is fucking yugioh.. i just wanna play some tcg and have some fun without going broke.. is that too much to ask..

@Nightwing690 Disciple was banned because it was abusable with sac artifact effects (though I think banning Ravager and the artifact lands would have been sufficient in weakening its power WotC didn't want to take any chances)
Cranial Plating was never banned to my knowledge. If you mean Skullclamp, it was banned because it was a ridiculous card advantage engine that could be easily abused.
To all of those who thing that WOTC would let standard get warped from one card your idiots. booster packs for WOTC cost 5$ tops to make mail and sell. those wheel barrels full of money ensure that things like that wont happen. something that has that much money invested in it and so many resources at its disposal wouldn't make that kind of a mistake. if Jace dominates the format its because WOTC wanted it to. just because you cant see the big picture and all the moves that lie ahead you bitch..
Jace is overrated, He is just good in Standard and Standard is an epic fail. Vintage laughs at Jace. Meddling Mage, Jester's Cap, Cranial Extraction, etc. its a joke i don't see why it would be banned. It's on its way out anyway.

i know its a way to garner more interest, but by doing so, they have pissed on all those cards and mechanics that came before them.
i seem to be versing the same player every game at fnm. it's always a game between me and jace, the guy who owns the deck doesn't do shit except hold mana leaks. i'd rather verse a player for once :(
THEY DON'T NEED TO BAN JACE. THEY NEED TO FIX PLANESWALKERS. They need to interact with damage and removal as a creature, with a trackable toughness, eg loyalty counters. Problem solved by way of creature removal and things like Volcanic fallout and pyroclasm.
Planeswalker rules being shit, and 500$ decks killed magic in my town. No more FNM's. No more Hobby shops. Both shops closed 8 months after Worldwake released. Everyone quit playing by the time Rise of the Eldrazi released.

I love Worldwake and even though I never pulled a Jace I loved Worldwake regardless of Jace being in it or not since i do not play blue i don't need him
I'd like to see how well caw-blades recovers from a turn 1 inquisition + surgical extraction knocking out stoneforge mystic. Then they'd have to actually draw into their swords or rely on jace to win. And although jace has really made standard a bland world he won't win it alone.
First, I am a green red player for legacy so jace really is not my crosshares my friend's are, but my sister plays blue black legacy legal and none of us know how to beat her, even now my dad wants to learn to play magic just so he can de thrown her. It make no since either it is an 85 card deck and it just dominates. When she plays with me and my 2 other friends we try to team up and she can make it that we have to face each other still why cant we just wait for october jace will be illeagle
@XXdrunkenxx87 it is simple how to handle a blue black vintage deck,with another black & blue deck.The key is to use millstones,hypnotic spectres and grindstones and just a spash of land destruction and counterspells and deny the use of the key cards to be used against you.Control is the key and the is to prevent lands from being played and hand denial.
i could see them banning mindsculpter but not jace himself. before they ban him they will probably make a new jace and put him in the format to replace mindsculpter.

Congratulations to whoever designed the Invitation Qualifier logo. I've been seeing it a bunch and only now do I see the phallic implications. I don't know much about the psychology of graphic design, but here has to be something special there to keep that "dirty thought" from coming up for so long.
I actually got fairly lucky I run vamps and almost came in top 8 at my local game store and I got knocked out by claw blade but if I had pulled that last sign. In blood I wulsve hit top 8 :(( oh well
@fartfizer wizards doesn't profit from the secondary market, jace made them a shit ton of money by selling packs but his individual price isn't related to wizards financially

This was a FANTASTIC show. The information and discussion of Jace, Valakut, and the absence of aggro was incredibly interesting and well presented. I really enjoyed it.
The problem with jace is he is to EXPENSIVE mo CARD should cost $ 100, the way to fix it is to lower the price on the card so everyone can play jace, and forcing people to play a color is pretty pathetic
If you look at the open stats provided in regards to jace decks versus mono red, it is very close. You also have to bear in mind that weaker players tend to run more mono red, whereas everyone using cawblade w/ 4 jace show a serious commitment to magic. I do really well in tournaments in today's standard with mono red because if built properly it has no problems with cawblade outside of terrible hands. Rug is harder but maindeck mark of mutiny is a must in this standard now.

Look, I totally agree that Jace is op, but just because he's good doesn't mean that he deserves to be banned. He can't be fairly compared to any previously banned card, because he simply doesn't do degenerate things. Powerful, for sure, but not degenerate.
Where is this mythical green aggro deck with vengevines? I find it hard to believe that there is a deck that beats jace decks and people aren't playing it, I'm an aggro player at heart I've certainly never heard of it, surely you are not talking about the quest for the holy relic decks, those decks are a glass cannon and loose to Boros, mono red and any other deck that plays instant speed removal. There is a deck that beats Jace decks. It's B/R Vampires. Hexmage, aggro, & burn eat Jace for breakfast. In fact, it just made 1st and 2nd of the Top 8 in Florida Regionals.
Magic is to well structured now a days to have one card throw the whole format into turmoil which is the point he made. Evan Erwin is not some yahoo who doesn't know what hes talking about. he plays with and talks to professionals all the time so show some respect before you act like a snobby movie critic.

JAce will not be banned. But they messed the power level, I give you that. Of course one of the planeswalkers would be the best, but FORCE people into playing a color is very silly.
They just need a card that destroys target planeswalker AND draws a card. All the good walkers generate card advantage the turn you play them, so spending 1 card to kill them (Vampire Hexmage for example) means you lose a card and they don't.

pretty sure the stats on Boros are not completely accurate, as it is a less expensive deck, and many less experience players play it, not necessarily because it is bad. decks like caw-blade and rug are harder to gather the cards for, and decks that more experienced players like to play it.
the only reason JTMS is an issue is cause everyone is stuck in the Hive Mind. If ppl didnt rely on the hivemind to think for them, you would actually see diversity in the game. Pro Tour Paris is proof of this, before Paris no one even knew what "Caw Blade" was, and now its everywhere. Its not like the cards werent there before, its just that until the deck won the pro tour that it stopped being a rogue deck and made the jump to tier 1. Had Caw Blade not have won the event, it would be tier 2
Rogue deck? It's not like the deck was just some random brew that someone got lucky with. It's the same well-established blue/white control deck that had 6 different cards in it at the core. You're talking like the deck was some completely new fad that used cards that no one ever used before. There was already Caw-Go before Paris and it had hawks in them, so the makings were around there already.

I notice everyone commenting on "valakut is easy to hate on, just play tec edges".. Have none of you seen recent valakut lists? Primeys, Avengers and Inferno Titans, they're going to come down turn 4 or 5 and kill you with or without you tec edging their valakuts.
If Valakut was that easy to hate on, it wouldn't be the third best deck in the world.
I would like to see Primeval banned, actually. Valakut won't be so dominant without Primey, also making sure Eldrazi ramp doesn't take its spot.
Jace doesnt need to be banned. I have no clue why people are swinging the ban stick at anything that is "too good". i mean seiously people. dont like jace? play vampire hexmage or phyrexian negator. i mean really guys, is it difficult to build a sideboard with options? from the new set we have already seen 2 answers for PW's in the form of surgical extraction and hex parasite. swamp, duress the jace and extract it.
also, unban mystical tutor and survival so we can put high tide in check.
Do you even play standard? If Vampire Hexmage and Phyrexian Revoker actually answered Jace we probably wouldn't see 4 copies of him in 15/16 decks.
Yeah unban Mystical and Survival so we'll have 3 or 4 good Legacy decks; brilliant. Legacy's at its best right now with TONS of viable strategies and you want to turn it back into the mess it was in last year? Glad you aren't running things.
Honestly, im one of the people who feel jace does not need to be banned. On the other hand, after creating homebrews with 50% or better against decks NOT jace for tournaments, I simply stopped playing. Maybe the next set will help, but the meta is far too stale and my general disdain for PWs/Mythics in general intensifies when games come down to fighting jace. Never has magic had cards that you pay for once and it continues to foot fuck the board in undercosted ways.

When will wizards bring Evan onboard to design a set - there are few out there who love the game as much to give themselves to the long thankless hours it takes to write, create, produce, edit and post videos like this week after week.

This is the two categories of people watching this video. One side is angry that a MYTHIC rare is CONTROLLING a format. The other side is angry that people would want to take their money away for a fair format. All I gotta say is that as long as we get Hex Parasite and another card similar, we'll be OK. I can see boros tempered steel do some serious beats with hex parasite.

If boros is aggro. Give them more answers, such as a red R1 instant 4 damage to a target and take 2 for a super char? or the same cost with an exile blue target. Except that would just have valakut own meh.....
Jace is not overpowered. He is just powerful. He dies all the time, and is too slow against aggro. RUG is in the top because it beats caw blade and Caw Blade is in the top because it beats valakuut. And valakuut rapes every single other deck. Jace is also not THE defining card of those decks. Jace is like Compulsive research. He goes into every blue deck while legal in the format. The problem with the format is that only blue-decks have the consistency to beat valakuut.
This actually highlights the reason i stopped playing magic. I know something "has to be the best", but i don't believe in having competitions for a game where you cant get by on skill and discipline alone.
heres why jace is broken, BEFORE! white had o-ring, red has burn.....and now what.
now look the ONE THING MISSING! is a plainswalker killer, PW are so hard to kill now, its so hard to get ahead when a jace lands the board, if your not running red, ok attack with creatures....which he can bounce. next turn, brain storm look for a counter, and you just sit on him till you win, if your not running red theres no solution. thats the problem

I'd like to see how well caw-blades recovers from a turn 1 inquisition + surgical extraction knocking out stoneforge mystic. Then they'd have to actually draw into their swords or rely on jace to win. And although jace has really made standard a bland world he won't win it alone.

First, I am a green red player for legacy so jace really is not my crosshares my friend's are, but my sister plays blue black legacy legal and none of us know how to beat her, even now my dad wants to learn to play magic just so he can de thrown her. It make no since either it is an 85 card deck and it just dominates. When she plays with me and my 2 other friends we try to team up and she can make it that we have to face each other still why cant we just wait for october jace will be illeagle

@XXdrunkenxx87 it is simple how to handle a blue black vintage deck,with another black & blue deck.The key is to use millstones,hypnotic spectres and grindstones and just a spash of land destruction and counterspells and deny the use of the key cards to be used against you.Control is the key and the is to prevent lands from being played and hand denial.

Congratulations to whoever designed the Invitation Qualifier logo. I've been seeing it a bunch and only now do I see the phallic implications. I don't know much about the psychology of graphic design, but here has to be something special there to keep that "dirty thought" from coming up for so long.

I actually got fairly lucky I run vamps and almost came in top 8 at my local game store and I got knocked out by claw blade but if I had pulled that last sign. In blood I wulsve hit top 8 :(( oh well

The problem with jace is he is to EXPENSIVE mo CARD should cost $ 100, the way to fix it is to lower the price on the card so everyone can play jace, and forcing people to play a color is pretty pathetic

If you look at the open stats provided in regards to jace decks versus mono red, it is very close. You also have to bear in mind that weaker players tend to run more mono red, whereas everyone using cawblade w/ 4 jace show a serious commitment to magic. I do really well in tournaments in today's standard with mono red because if built properly it has no problems with cawblade outside of terrible hands. Rug is harder but maindeck mark of mutiny is a must in this standard now.

I believe Preordain is played as much as Jace only because it works so well with jace.

Look, I totally agree that Jace is op, but just because he's good doesn't mean that he deserves to be banned. He can't be fairly compared to any previously banned card, because he simply doesn't do degenerate things. Powerful, for sure, but not degenerate.

Where is this mythical green aggro deck with vengevines? I find it hard to believe that there is a deck that beats jace decks and people aren't playing it, I'm an aggro player at heart I've certainly never heard of it, surely you are not talking about the quest for the holy relic decks, those decks are a glass cannon and loose to Boros, mono red and any other deck that plays instant speed removal. I find your whole rationale bizarre please provide a deck list next time you make a claim like this

There is a deck that beats Jace decks. It's B/R Vampires. Hexmage, aggro, & burn eat Jace for breakfast. In fact, it just made 1st and 2nd of the Top 8 in Florida Regionals.

JAce will not be banned. But they messed the power level, I give you that. Of course one of the planeswalkers would be the best, but FORCE people into playing a color is very silly.

They just need a card that destroys target planeswalker AND draws a card. All the good walkers generate card advantage the turn you play them, so spending 1 card to kill them (Vampire Hexmage for example) means you lose a card and they don't.

pretty sure the stats on Boros are not completely accurate, as it is a less expensive deck, and many less experience players play it, not necessarily because it is bad. decks like caw-blade and rug are harder to gather the cards for, and decks that more experienced players like to play it.

the only reason JTMS is an issue is cause everyone is stuck in the Hive Mind. If ppl didnt rely on the hivemind to think for them, you would actually see diversity in the game. Pro Tour Paris is proof of this, before Paris no one even knew what "Caw Blade" was, and now its everywhere. Its not like the cards werent there before, its just that until the deck won the pro tour that it stopped being a rogue deck and made the jump to tier 1. Had Caw Blade not have won the event, it would be tier 2

Rogue deck? It's not like the deck was just some random brew that someone got lucky with. It's the same well-established blue/white control deck that had 6 different cards in it at the core. You're talking like the deck was some completely new fad that used cards that no one ever used before. There was already Caw-Go before Paris and it had hawks in them, so the makings were around there already.

The fact is that EVERYONE is running a 4 of JTMS making the format a bit stale. 32 copies of Jace is ridiculous. I personally feel if NPH has no real answers for Jace, he might be banned by June 20. Other than that Jace is a crutch IMO

I notice everyone commenting on "valakut is easy to hate on, just play tec edges".. Have none of you seen recent valakut lists? Primeys, Avengers and Inferno Titans, they're going to come down turn 4 or 5 and kill you with or without you tec edging their valakuts.
If Valakut was that easy to hate on, it wouldn't be the third best deck in the world.
I would like to see Primeval banned, actually. Valakut won't be so dominant without Primey, also making sure Eldrazi ramp doesn't take its spot.

Jace doesnt need to be banned. I have no clue why people are swinging the ban stick at anything that is "too good". i mean seiously people. dont like jace? play vampire hexmage or phyrexian negator. i mean really guys, is it difficult to build a sideboard with options? from the new set we have already seen 2 answers for PW's in the form of surgical extraction and hex parasite. swamp, duress the jace and extract it.
also, unban mystical tutor and survival so we can put high tide in check.

Yeah unban Mystical and Survival so we'll have 3 or 4 good Legacy decks; brilliant. Legacy's at its best right now with TONS of viable strategies and you want to turn it back into the mess it was in last year? Glad you aren't running things.

Honestly, im one of the people who feel jace does not need to be banned. On the other hand, after creating homebrews with 50% or better against decks NOT jace for tournaments, I simply stopped playing. Maybe the next set will help, but the meta is far too stale and my general disdain for PWs/Mythics in general intensifies when games come down to fighting jace. Never has magic had cards that you pay for once and it continues to foot fuck the board in undercosted ways.

Evan should be well-compensated to be one of the premier ambassadors of the game along with Dr. Garfield, Mike Flores etc.

This is the two categories of people watching this video. One side is angry that a MYTHIC rare is CONTROLLING a format. The other side is angry that people would want to take their money away for a fair format. All I gotta say is that as long as we get Hex Parasite and another card similar, we'll be OK. I can see boros tempered steel do some serious beats with hex parasite.

Jace is not overpowered. He is just powerful. He dies all the time, and is too slow against aggro. RUG is in the top because it beats caw blade and Caw Blade is in the top because it beats valakuut. And valakuut rapes every single other deck. Jace is also not THE defining card of those decks. Jace is like Compulsive research. He goes into every blue deck while legal in the format. The problem with the format is that only blue-decks have the consistency to beat valakuut.

heres why jace is broken, BEFORE! white had o-ring, red has burn.....and now what.
now look the ONE THING MISSING! is a plainswalker killer, PW are so hard to kill now, its so hard to get ahead when a jace lands the board, if your not running red, ok attack with creatures....which he can bounce. next turn, brain storm look for a counter, and you just sit on him till you win, if your not running red theres no solution. thats the problem
