@flackz16 hahaha..yeah, we really don't care about sounding objective here in South America...we're pretty passionate about football in general and our teams in particular :D
Maradona seems dancing like butterfly, running on his tip toes, light, almost
seem not to touch the ground, the all action has a feeling of grace and lightness, but the best thing, the genious touch that makes his so unique is that once he reached the goalkeeper, any other player would have kicked the ball in the goal in the opposit corner before the goalkeeper would have "closed " on him, while Diego continued, jumping him too.

Even if argentinian players would be 1 hour ago making party at the disco they should beat a team like Venezuela if they want to be a real world class team. But you´re right - the times have changed and teams like Venezuela and Bolivia (remember 1-6 in 2009) can not be beaten in an easy way. Argentinas football have lost much (!) of his old potential.

In my opinion Argentinas way of playing football is antique. They are still watching on individual abilities and not enough on physical points. It is the way they played in 70s, 80s and 90s. Todays football has changed. Milito, Aguero and so on are overrated. Messi is the best, Higuain is also very very good. And the midfield?! Di Maria is good, Mascherano is in my opinion average not very good. And the defence - is a joke. You can´t win anything only with a world class attaking.
@1976istivan i'm sorry but i disagree, brasil has never had anything in their defence and they have 5 world cups 7 copa americas an all types of records, actually arentina has a way better defence then brasil ever had. and please don't start naming cafu, r.carlos, emerson, or marcelo, they do more in attack then defence, and the centre backs lusiao, lucio, and juan are mediocre defenders.
A question back: Are Demichelis or Budisso world class defenders?! No.
Brazil advantage against Argentina is the physical state of the players. Brazilian players have not only good technical skills they are physical stronger then argentinian players. But I still like the way of argentinas football. I like Maradona, Caniggia, Batistuta, Veron, Crespo and Messi. But the state of the actual national team is a shame.
@1976istivan burdisso and demichelis are not world class, but that is my point. On the contrary, brasilian defenders have always been noted for being very out of shape, ronaldinho was almost left out of 2006 world cup becuase of the bad shape that barcelona had him in, the same happened with kaka in 2010. I disagree, i think that Argentinians have a physical advantage, and while brasil is known only for playing on the ground, Argentina can play both in the air and in the ground.
Another question: When Argentina beat Brazil in an important match?! I think the last big victory against Brazil was in 2005 (!) 3-1 in the world cup qualifier in Buenos Aires. After that Brazil beat Argentina in every important match. It is sad but it's the truth. I hope the thinks will be change in the next few years but there is no big hope for that.
You can not compare Olympic Games Soccer realy with national team. In 1996 even Nigeria won the olympic Gold. After that Nigeria won nothing....
Fact is: Argentinas football is not the same at the time were Maradona or Batistuta had played. In my opinion without Messi and Higuain the team is not more then an average national team like Colombia or Peru. Realy I love Argentinas football because I saw Maradona and Batistuta (1980s and 1990s) but how they are playing now is a shame.
@1976istivan Peru and Colombia don't reach quarterfinals consistenly. We are not top5 anymore but we remain top10 I think. Maybe we'll be able to pull a semifinal or final in the next WCs. Good luck.
@1976istivan the problem here is that when a new Managerh arrives... it's forced to public pressure -or media pressure if you want- to change everything the previous one had made -the good stuff & the bad ones- so every 4 year -or less- we start from scratch... with line-up change ups... tactics... an so on... It has never been a serious long-term proyect.... maybe With Marcelo Bielsa -eliminated in first round in 2002, but they renew their contract-... but Media made him impossible to go on...
I agree about you wrote about Bielsa. Bielsa was a very good coach. At his time 1998 until 2004 Argentina played very good. But it was also the time of a very good generation of players like Crespo and Veron. The potential of the players is important to win a big tournament. Now, the generation of defenders in Argentinas football is very weak. Ayala was the last very good defender. Demichelis and Burdisso are jokes.
@1976istivan en 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 y 2010 argentina tenia un gran equipo y siempre fue favorito para ganar el mundial al igual que inglaterra, que no los haya ganado no significa que no haya tenia un buen equipo
@1976istivan Excuse me man, where are you from??? What the hell did you win in the last 25 years If you are English?? The only thing you won was a world cup in England ´66 So, what the hell are you talking about. The only National teams that could talk about football whit Argentina are Brazil, Italy and Germany Maybe Uruguay too but the last world cup they won was in 1950. So if you are english just fuck off you jelous...
I´m not English. I watch Argentinas national team more then 25 years and Maradona was my childhood hero. But how they are playing now is very sad. And by the way: Say the truth, can you compare Argentina now with teams like Germany or Spain?! No, Argentinas level is now at the level of teams like Mexico or Uruguay. Messi alone is not enough.
I also owe my love of soccer to this man. I grew up in the 80's, so all I know about football is because of this man. He is the best football player of all times.
Messi im sorry bud no matter how good you are, or the solo goals you scored , they cant come near this. For a goal to be the greatest, theres got to be a lot of things connected, first and foremost, it has to be daylight, the azteca stadium is just ..theres now word for it, on a heated day.. with the atmosphere ..it just blows the speakers. Then theres that infamous spiral shadow on the pitch, it all adds trust me lol the faulkands. Maradona himself , it was 80's! the best times for many
Holy..shit i have seen this goal and it sends a shiver up my spine, but this commentary and the meaning, it gave me an electric shock! this man influenced my football. As a kid ..the moment i bought my first mexico'86 black jack cards with players on it ..the most illusive was ace of spades - Maradona. All my family were searching for that one, never found it even after buying 100's of packs of these chewing gum pack with cards in them . My first pack, the first card i see.. ace of spades!
@babyc424242 I used to think the same thing for a long time as well, until I saw the goal from a different angle. It was definitely Diego that scored it with his left.
good goal by Maradona but i think FORMER WORLD BEST FROM AFRICA, George Weah goal is the greatest goal. check him out and watch it and see wat am talkin bout
@INFINITY1664 yes, playing soccer with friends in my neighborhood, once I dribbled all of them and scored a goal. So probably I'll do it again on next World Cup against England. Sure, I'll dribble all of them.
i have one dispute of this goal being one of the greatest of all time... Whether Maradona actually scored it!!
if you wait until the replay from the reverse angle behind the goal and then quickly pause and play the video, it definitely seems to me that the england defender Terry Butcher comes from behind Maradona with the slide tackle goes through him and he makes contact with the ball last which would make it an Own goal and not a goal actually scored by the Argentinian maestro
@ChrisPayneable erm... no.... it would have been "more epic" if he had scored it.
A bit like luis suarez this season against man united, when he beat like 4 united defenders then put it past van der sar but dirk kuyt tapped it in. That goal woud've been better if suarez had scored it and its the exact same thing here.
@ForcedAllegiance u fuckin dumbass ur comparing suarez to maradona fuck off. the only player in the world whom u can say is better than maradona is messi. Messi is better than maradona but then comes maradona.
@GoSam93 HAHA, people like you entertain me with your stupidity. Ok so let me put this very simply so you can understand it. I NEVER SAID SUAREZ WAS AS GOOD AS MARADONA, YOU ILLITERATE FUCKTARD!
i was simply comparing the goals saying they were similar in the way that they would've been better if suarez has scored his, and maradona's goal wasn't what i believe to be an own goal.
Next time you wanna have a go at someone on youtube, make sure you actually read what they put as their message ;)
The sort of narcotics Deigo took actually hurt him more than improve his performance, so in-effect he could have been much better had he not wasted his talent with his addiction.
Cocaine or Heroin are not performance enhancing supplements they are performance and life degrading stuff.
I'm Argentinean! and the truth is that Argentines are very excited with soccer .. WE DO MOURN, IS a great feeling ARGENTINA WHICH I THINK IS THE FEW COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD WITH SO MUCH PASSION FOR ARGENTINA SHIRT AS PER OUR COUNTRY ... THANK YOU DIEGOOO I LOVE YOU

@Netso24 no problem, maradona's goal was way more important than messi's one, but for my opinion, the messi goal was better performance and had more skill in it.
He visto a Maradonna Mama! enamorado estoy! Io Maradonna!
ta ta ta is the argentine slang for "esta, esta, esta" wich means in an accurate translation "it´s there, it´s there, it´s there", building up the anticipation of the coming goal. A work of art from Victor Hugo, to do this, in that particular goal, made me believe in god...
I know...Messi's still very good...in my opinion the best player now....I'm sure if xavi doesn't get the golden boot, Messi will...again! Messi wants Xavi or Iniesta to get it though, he says it's their turn...but yeah.....Maradona was unique!
@Adaiauaistudent True. Leo is still very young. He can surpass Maradona, but Diego will always remain number one to me. He was special. I think Xavi deserves it. He is never given enough credit. Sneijder had a great year too though.
Yup...to me Xavi deserves it...and he's most probably going to get it! Man...did u watch his goal against Real Madrid? My goodness....amazing...I enjoyed that "superclasico" sooo bad....5-0....!!!! Just amazing....Messi's passes to both of Villa's goals were unbelievable too!!!!
@Adaiauaistudent Yup...to me Xavi deserves it...and he's most probably going to get it! Man...did u watch his goal against Real Madrid? My goodness....amazing...I enjoyed that "superclasico" sooo bad....5-0....!!!! Just amazing....Messi's passes to both of Villa's goals were unbelievable too!!!!
@Adaiauaistudent Don't remind me... I'm a Madrid fan. :( But yes what an incredible game Messi and Villa played. All Barcelona played a perfect game. I'd be happy if either Xavi or Sneijder win it. I'm just sad they didn't include Diego Milito in the candidates. He had great year too. Messi also had an incredible year and it wouldn't surprise me if he'd win it.
I'm a Barcelona fan...I was always into Barcelona but it was with Saviola that i became a real fan when i was a teenager! So I love Barcelona...even more with Messi....Did u watch the game against Osasuna? Messi was brilliant! Anyway...other than the Champions League, I also like the Spanish league, the Premier League and definitely the Italian ....I know...Milito has done pretty good too.
@Adaiauaistudent Yes saw the Barça game. And once again it was a Messi show. I like Barça (which is strange since I'm a Madrid fan), but I LOVED them a lot more in the Ronaldinho-Eto'o-Messi days. That football was much nicer. The tiki-taka does not have the same magic as Ronaldinho's super passes and beautiful goals for me, but Messi is incredible to watch nowadays. Those are the same three leagues I follow but I like La Liga the most even though I'm from Italy. We are too defensive. zzzz..
Yeah...i'm not a big fan of Ronaldinho....he is not as good as he used to be...eto-o used to be sooo good too, not that he isnt anymore but...not the same....Messi is unbelievable...to me one of the greatest players of our time... Barcelona has been going through it-s best time these last 3 years.....last year they won all their six titles...just amazing..
I know...La Liga is definitely my favorite.....but there's too big of a difference between Barca and Real and the rest...
@Adaiauaistudent Now Ronaldinho rarely shows glimpses of magic as he used to, but in 2004-2006 at Barça he was special. You are right Real and Barça are so good that the league isn't that competitive for the first spot. However Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal are really good teams and in fact Atletico won the UEFA cup. Today they announced the 3 podiums for the Balon d'Or: Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. I feel bad for Sneijder who, I thought deserved the podium at least.
@MikeHawk1988 yup as I had guessed, it is between Messi Xavi and Iniesta. I think Xavi deserves it....iniesta might only get it because of his goal in the WC final, it's so common for the FIFA to consider him because of that, the year of the WC they include a player of the winner team who scored, it happened with Zidane in '98, Ronaldo in 2002, Cannavaro in 2006. I mean, Cannavaro? there were better players that year! So that's my theory, I hope Xavi gets it though
@Adaiauaistudent I think you are right. Iniesta might win it. In Italy we all wanted Cannavaro to win it in 2006. He had a fantastic year and World Cup (no goals scored on Italy other than an own goal and Zidane's penalty). However, yes, there were many quality players that deserved that award more. Zidane in my opinion should have won it, but he won the FIFA world player award. Maybe because of the head-butt he was denied the Balon d'Or since conduct is very important.
Weird to play the Uruguay fight song Soy Celeste before an Argentina clip no? Like playing the US national anthem before showing Sydney Crosby's gold medal winning goal for Canada. Weird. Nice play though.
"Ole ole ole ole ole ole ola....cada dia te quiero mas...oh argentina es un sentimiento no puedo parar!!!!" Argentine fans sing this since I can remember....they still do...Soy celeste is another song, and yes, Soy celeste is an Uruguay fight song, but this is not Soy celeste!
@ransisua it's a sound that means...something like...almost, almost, almost without the alm...like if you says...oh! it's there, it's coming, it's coming, almost...ost, ost, ost, ost. Something like that.
British guy: He made a goal. Spanish guy: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, GOOOOOOOOOLAZZZZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOOO! GOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLAAAAAZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Good literal translation, actually. It's difficult to translate idioms like "golazo" into English. I like the creativity of "Goalzilla," though. It's not quite as beautiful, but it definitely gives a good feel of the translation.
It's going to be difficult to put something like "barrilete cósmico" into English because "cosmic kite" just sounds stupid in English.
Good job getting the emotion into understandable English, I don't really think anyone can do much better.
thanks a lot! I grew up speaking both languages and this is as far as I could do. Spanish is a very emotional and passionate language...plus the argentine lunfardo is unique :D
Ooooppsss sorry, you probably have the facts wrong...see he began to used drugs once he was in Barcelona, after the Mexico World Cup was over. He did use drugs but that was after WC in ´86. This year it has been 6 years he´s been clean. So if he won that World Cup it was all because of pure talent.
@Adaiauaistudent not true. he use drugs since he can affort them.. anycase best football player ever.. they will pass generations untill we could get half a player like this
and whether he was clean or not it makes no difference, the drugs he took were not performance enhancing. everything you saw him do was just pure genius nothing more nothing less
Yes that's exactly what I meant to say on my comment above, first he wasn't loaded in that WC, but most important even if he was taking what he took later on it wouldn't have had a positive effect!
@whitefire123 It's stupid to think drug can make a lame ass into a great player. Why don't you try some and see if you can get qualify for 1 of your local third rate football club ? Drug only increase physical abilities, but physical alone is far from enough to achieve any success in a sport like football. Technical (trained, gifted ), mental (experienced ) and game reading (intelligent ) abilities are far more important and those can't be get through drug.
I speak Spanish. Decent attempt at best. the video and commentary deserves a proper translation. It is much more passionate if you speak fluent spanish. Wrong choice of words. Some parts weren't translated. Looks like you used a online translator.
I´m bilingual please! I grew up speaking English and Spanish and I never even used an online translator. I know the translation isn´t perfect though, that´s why at the very beginning I specify that the translation doesn´t make justice to the passionate words of Victor Hugo. There are certain things you just can't translate to English like: chamuyo, che, bardear, groso, la posta, etc. I mean even if you translate them it won´t make the same sense..just my opinion!
You're right! I didn't notice that..thanks! I guess it's a big deal for you considering Scotland has been to 8 World cups...but you know I meant to say English! Thank you though..by the way..WE WON TODAY!!!! VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!!
hahahah yes..he's got a big cock, but he still remians one of the best players in history and I'm loving him as coach in the world cup right now...but yup he's cocky :D
Thanks for watching guys...I never got so may views on a video....I'm new on youtube so thanks!

@1976istivan Peru and Colombia don't reach quarterfinals consistenly. We are not top5 anymore but we remain top10 I think. Maybe we'll be able to pull a semifinal or final in the next WCs. Good luck.
TheMaxik 2 months ago
@1976istivan the problem here is that when a new Managerh arrives... it's forced to public pressure -or media pressure if you want- to change everything the previous one had made -the good stuff & the bad ones- so every 4 year -or less- we start from scratch... with line-up change ups... tactics... an so on... It has never been a serious long-term proyect.... maybe With Marcelo Bielsa -eliminated in first round in 2002, but they renew their contract-... but Media made him impossible to go on...
Prado73 1 month ago
@Prado73

Maradona himself , it was 80's! the best times for many
SidneyXda 6 months ago
Holy..shit i have seen this goal and it sends a shiver up my spine, but this commentary and the meaning, it gave me an electric shock! this man influenced my football. As a kid ..the moment i bought my first mexico'86 black jack cards with players on it ..the most illusive was ace of spades - Maradona. All my family were searching for that one, never found it even after buying 100's of packs of these chewing gum pack with cards in them . My first pack, the first card i see.. ace of spades!

i have one dispute of this goal being one of the greatest of all time...
ForcedAllegiance 9 months ago
@ForcedAllegiance If what you say is true, the he beat five English defenders and made one of them score an own goal.
You made it even more epic.
ChrisPayneable 9 months ago
@ChrisPayneable erm... no.... it would have been "more epic" if he had scored it.
A bit like luis suarez this season against man united, when he beat like 4 united defenders then put it past van der sar but dirk kuyt tapped it in. That goal woud've been better if suarez had scored it and its the exact same thing here.
ForcedAllegiance 9 months ago

@GoSam93 HAHA, people like you entertain me with your stupidity. Ok so let me put this very simply so you can understand it. I NEVER SAID SUAREZ WAS AS GOOD AS MARADONA, YOU ILLITERATE FUCKTARD!
i was simply comparing the goals saying they were similar in the way that they would've been better if suarez has scored his, and maradona's goal wasn't what i believe to be an own goal.
Next time you wanna have a go at someone on youtube, make sure you actually read what they put as their message ;)

To those who accuse him Deigo of taking drugs,
The sort of narcotics Deigo took actually hurt him more than improve his performance, so in-effect he could have been much better had he not wasted his talent with his addiction.
Cocaine or Heroin are not performance enhancing supplements they are performance and life degrading stuff.
ivarunmehta 9 months ago 16
@ivarunmehta
You are absolutely right.
Most of the people don't understand that, and they think that Maradona was taking drugs to play better.
If he didn't use cocaine and have such a bad (for an athlete) lifestile, he would have been even a better player;
But He would not have been Maradona.

@Adaiauaistudent True. Leo is still very young. He can surpass Maradona, but Diego will always remain number one to me. He was special. I think Xavi deserves it. He is never given enough credit. Sneijder had a great year too though.

MikeHawk1988 1 year ago
@MikeHawk1988
Adaiauaistudent 1 year ago
@Adaiauaistudent Yes saw the Barça game. And once again it was a Messi show. I like Barça (which is strange since I'm a Madrid fan), but I LOVED them a lot more in the Ronaldinho-Eto'o-Messi days. That football was much nicer. The tiki-taka does not have the same magic as Ronaldinho's super passes and beautiful goals for me, but Messi is incredible to watch nowadays. Those are the same three leagues I follow but I like La Liga the most even though I'm from Italy. We are too defensive. zzzz..
MikeHawk1988 1 year ago
@MikeHawk1988
Adaiauaistudent 1 year ago
@Adaiauaistudent Now Ronaldinho rarely shows glimpses of magic as he used to, but in 2004-2006 at Barça he was special. You are right Real and Barça are so good that the league isn't that competitive for the first spot. However Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal are really good teams and in fact Atletico won the UEFA cup. Today they announced the 3 podiums for the Balon d'Or: Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. I feel bad for Sneijder who, I thought deserved the podium at least.
MikeHawk1988 1 year ago
@MikeHawk1988 yup as I had guessed, it is between Messi Xavi and Iniesta. I think Xavi deserves it....iniesta might only get it because of his goal in the WC final, it's so common for the FIFA to consider him because of that, the year of the WC they include a player of the winner team who scored, it happened with Zidane in '98, Ronaldo in 2002, Cannavaro in 2006. I mean, Cannavaro? there were better players that year! So that's my theory, I hope Xavi gets it though
Adaiauaistudent 1 year ago
@Adaiauaistudent I think you are right. Iniesta might win it. In Italy we all wanted Cannavaro to win it in 2006. He had a fantastic year and World Cup (no goals scored on Italy other than an own goal and Zidane's penalty). However, yes, there were many quality players that deserved that award more. Zidane in my opinion should have won it, but he won the FIFA world player award. Maybe because of the head-butt he was denied the Balon d'Or since conduct is very important.

I´m bilingual please! I grew up speaking English and Spanish and I never even used an online translator. I know the translation isn´t perfect though, that´s why at the very beginning I specify that the translation doesn´t make justice to the passionate words of Victor Hugo.
