  • Boot, not Boo, look it up on the urban dictionary of what it means in the military

  • Snafu: Sub Normal And Fucking Useless

  • theirs this kid that gets on my bus... he looks like a 13 year old Snafu! :'D

  • Comment removed

  • @RadioheadHim i'm a senior in high skool and my class mate looks exactly like snafu. face, hair, damn hes even has the same voice. except my class mate is more sane then snafu lol

  • He says "boot" not "boo". a boot is like a newbie in military slang.

  • "Boot" as in boot camp, new person. Not "BOO"

  • What does Luz have to do with Snafu? I dont see the connection there.

Luz is a totally diffrent kind of guy. Luz was a great guy, really tender hearted, sweet and funny. Snafu was really tough, kind of harsh but he had a very good heart.

The only thing they have in common are their jokes but even those are very diffrent. Luz is funny, Snafu is Sarcastic and has weird humour.

I love both characters very much.

  • " More excitements on the way princess."

  • Some come back from a war and spend the rest of their days wishing they could go spend more time with their buddies...like SAFU.

  • Snafu is the best character on here as far as entertainment... I love how he says shit with no sign of laughter on his face.. just falls into the other dudes helmet lol

  • "oooh, oohh la la laaaaa, now that's a piece of ass!"

  • @mrdeathclaw66 WOW, I'd marry her

  • It's boot not boo.

  • @Yummyyumyum3 It's boo not boot

  • @Yummyyumyum3 the word 'boot' in the Marines wasnt used during this war he said boo

  • @Nickaveonline Snafu is just special x) he's good at the bottom !

  • snafoo is a dickhead

  • fucking love SNAFU

  • I liked the borderline madness his character seemed to struggle with. I'm bettin combat of the nature they endured would push a fella towards the edge, if not over it. and funny in his own way too.

  • Goddamnit, you cut it off at the best bit!

  • Amazing that he can talk to an officer like that.

  • @cosmicdingo That's not an officer.. -__-

  • His. Accent.

  • It's boot the subtitles prove it

  • Bruno Mars!

  • @noob5THgeneration thats Rami Malek

  • @noob5THgeneration I waz jus thunkin bout him then ur comment surprized me and my sis!! she haz the CD!

  • It's "you better get mean boot!"

  • its "boot"

  • @GreedAndDoom no, it's not.

  • @Thiagotruth It is boot! aka new guy.

  • @Thiagotruth Yes it is, dumbfuck. "Boo" was obviously not common vernacular in the 1940's. "Boot", which references a Marine who is new to the Corps, was - and is still in usage today.

  • The way he shakes his head as he says 'mean' just makes me laugh. He's amazing. I hope he does a lot more stuff because I just want to keep watching him on screen.

  • At the beginning I didn't really like Snufu, but towards the end when it's just him and Eugene I really got more into likin him int he series.

  • @Nintenkid91

haha me too, at first I thought he was kinda of a asshole but he becomes one of my favourite characters.

  • "Now that's a piece of ass." "I'd marry her"

  • Hoosier was the best, he had some great 1 liners. Snafu was hardfuckin core, though

  • @Fkfkgk

There isn't really much description of what he does in the book. The events that he portrays in the series, for the most part, happened to other marines which sometimes go unnamed in the book. The one part that did happen though is the part where he falls down on the airfield at Peleliu after an explosion and Eugene helps him up, except in reality Snafu took a piece of shrapnel that nearly hits him as a souvenir...

  • I remember him in night at the museum lol

  • crazy ass

  • gosh, he SO hot.

  • luz was better

  • I wish people would read 'With the Old Breed' and see that Snafu didn't actually do half the stuff he does on the series, in real life!

Still Malek is amazing at this role.

  • Comment removed

  • Hes the best actor i have ever seen. Is snafu in real life really like this?

  • @LandStrife

No, the man Malek portrays on here is made up of many different accounts of others who served with Sledge in The Pacific. He was a real person but didn't do half the stuff he does in the series in reality. It's all outlined in Sledge's book- 'With The Old Breed'

  • I don't mean to be a pickypants but the CC on the DVD says 'boot.' He calls some of the replacements 'boot' from time to time - I wonder if it means 'fresh out of boot camp'?

Snafu is amazing. He kind of reminds me of Gollum, only with better hair. ;)

  • @lynnfamily4 Generally new men to a unit that have just gotten out of boot camp or advanced training are called "boot". This goes away with time and / or achievement.

  • I always thought Snafu had some form of PTS.

  • Amazing series and it took me a while to realize how amazing of an actor Snafu actually was.

  • he's calling him a boot, not boo

  • @Sturmmann Its boo :D

  • @Kamibandit

its boot, a derregatory term for Marine grunt not experienced enough or on his first deployment

  • @Sturmmann that would make sense...but boo was his nickname...snafu used it becuz he knew it pissed him off :p He gave nicknames to everyone..Sledgehammer...Ballpin hammer...Boo :D

  • was snafu on Guadalcanal, Peleliu, and Okinawa?

  • @state135 and cape glouster

  • @TheArbiter707 damn hes a real fighter

  • @state135 He started at Glouster. then Peleliu and Okinawa

  • snafu = situation normal are fucked up

  • @HangZhien Situation normal: all fucked up ** ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @AmazingCinemaMoments you were definitely right, he says boo. he says it later on in the series too. don't know why they thought it was boot?

  • Cathy is the name of the girl in the picture he can't stop looking at. Supposed to be his girlfriend back home. Everybody called him Cathy.

  • calls him "boot" not "boo" the whole episode. A boot is a marine who hasn't seen combat.

  • He definitely says "you better get mean too boo" snafu calls him "boo" several times in this episode.

  • Good thing yo head so FRIGGIN hard! You got 9 lives Bill Leyden!,...

  • SNAFU=Situation Normal All Fucked Up=badass nickname

  • I say this to my cadets you better get mean

  • I love him so much lol he rocks :)

  • i love the way he talks =)

  • I started out wanting him dead but in the middle of the battle of Peluliu he became one of my favorite charaters in the series

  • snafu was a weird character, i started out wanting him dead, but after a while he grew on my as a character on the show

  • i dont know why they chosed him to play snafu he is so retarded.

I dont think the REAL snafu was like that

  • @fallout111111 That's not retardism, that's...I don't really know the form of acting that is, but I really like it, it adds a bit more depth to the character.

  • @SickSilckMan I dont want to see depth.

I want to see what really happend out there!

    Not some hollywood thing

  • @fallout111111 *shrugs* get a time machine, then?

  • Poor katy....

  • He should have been nominated for an emmy, Not becuase he was a great supporting character but simply becuase you feel emotionally attached to him unlike most lead characters like lost, Glee, and mad men. They are all great shows with good characters but Rami just simply played a real person who was easy to remember.

  • George Luz is funnier

  • @smellytoilet1996 Lutz was good. Snafu was better.

  • @smellytoilet1996

It's two totally different characters... The events of the pacific turned Snafu into a sarcastic unemotional uncaring human being for the most part - which is what the pacific theater did to alot of marines, as what they went through was worse than what others went through in Europe. I gathered in BoB, and from Luz as well, that it was a little easier to keep morale up in the European theater, and men there were a tad more relaxed.

  • @smellytoilet1996 who the fuck is george luz? a doggie

  • @Edfiki86 No, Gorge Luz was the nucklehead in BOB.

  • @smellytoilet1996 he is funnier in normal situations, but snafu is funnier in serious situations

  • @smellytoilet1996 agreed, but he also had alot more time on screen than snafu did. I mean heck snafu didn't show up until episode 6, either way both are pretty inspiring dudes

  • @smellytoilet1996 Comparing Snafu with George Luz is like... comparing Justin Bieber with a car.

Not even close to the same thing.

  • @ullvar1993 I am not sure maybe I just do not get Snafu's jokes

  • @smellytoilet1996 i love ray....rays the best.

  • @smellytoilet1996 this guy is reading an article over here that SAYS THE GERMANS ARE BAD

  • @ww2guy100 lol luz

  • snafffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-

  • You'd better get mean too, boot,

    Awesome capture!

  • hes trying to look at his soul and he doesnt even care lmao

  • It's a misconception that most white people in New Orleans are Cajun. Sure there are lots of them, but "Cajun Country" is mostly west of New Orleans, extending to soutwest Louisiana, across the state from New Orleans.

  • Snafu took war as a joke in this show

  • man when snafu had his fist apperance i thought he was a total douchebag...but he got better during the series i would say..but eugene sledge is my favorite...you know..i love all of the characters this series made me cry

  • Never mind I just finished the series it's from 9

  • what episode is this from?

  • his character creeps me out in some ways ahhaha...but he's awesome he's my third favorite after leckie being first and sledge being second

  • He calls him boot. Its military slang for someone new to the fleet, someone fresh out of bootcamp.

  • @bavarianwerks I think he said boo. "Boot" is indeed slang for a green Marine, but it is not uncommon to hear people from New Orleans call others "boo." Either way - good scene.

  • snafu kinda scares me but i like his personality :)) poor kathy =)) lmfao

  • i just love him !!!! love him !!!

  • He says boot, not boo. Also in part five somebody says "Working party. Three of you boots go with Snafu." It was a nickname for people who just got out of boot camp

  • Best line of the series...snafu..one of the best

  • my favorite main character is leckie, my favorite non-main character id chuckler (leu jeurgens

  • man, i don't get what he's saying half the time.

  • Whatpart is this in? I need to watch it!!!

  • @neverskankyfan282

    It's in part nine

  • hes my favorite

  • first i did not like him but now hes my favorite character

  • im pretty sure he said boo cause in the begining of the episode he calls him boo and there is clearly no T on the end of it

  • @Mumakil42 na dude its boot its what they call all new replacements hes just got a really heavy cajun accent they dont emphasize the ts

  • @ch1ldpr3d3t0r what is cajun?

  • @warriorsfromhell cajun is a group of people mainly from louisiana there from french desent and hundreds of years ago they setled in lousiana most white people in new orlenes are cajun

  • @ch1ldpr3d3t0r thank you...by the way,is that how the way they speak,very slow ?

  • @warriorsfromhell yea they speak with long drawls its just part of the accent

  • hes says boot, it means new guy, i laughed when i heard it cause i didnt know the marines have been callin our new guys boots that long. but he was definitely my favorite character of the whole series, he was one salty dude, and Rami deserves somethin for his portrayal of snafu for sure

  • Boot - as in rookie - as in boot camp...

  • Sledge and Snafu - best characters in the whole show. It didn't really pick up until it started focusing on them, imo.

I know comparisons are sort of disrespectful, by Snafu kind of reminds of Speirs from Band of Brothers. They're both people who seem like borderline psycopaths and you don't really know what to think of them at the start, but they're also so charismatic and believable that they soon become your favourite characters. Of course, there are a lot of differences too.

  • EMMY! EMMY! EMMY! even just this 30 second clip proves this guy deserves the Emmy award , in fact his performance is damn Oscar worthy....so complex and layered....he stole the whole show and every scene.

Incredible performance....i way he says "you better get mean too" sends chills down me

  • his portrayal scared the crap out of me and suprised me @ the same time

  • rami rocks love this dude so much lol

  • I effin agree. I've seen a ton of war pictures (please, not bragging & not an expert) I've never seen anything like..... what this guy did.....that dude shook me up.

  • At first Snafu seemed so weird, mean and puffed. I didn't like him. He is still those things but I damn adore him now! He's really disturbing but that's how he holds his head. He drives everyone confused tense with his odd humour and intimacy. Snafu and Leckie are the best of the best!!!

  • Give this man a golden globe and an emmy!!!!!

  • he is soo hott i luv snafu

  • I wanted to see snafus reaction when he took the picture from peck. Its really hilarious when he said :ooh---la---oh-la-la.... can you post it?

  • the show was great but he was the main reason why i watched

  • @amazingcinemamoments you are right. He does say you better get mean to BOO. He calls that dude boo when they pass the Jap Pows...he says it another time too...can't quite recall...but it is boo.

  • @GNRWrestlingFan He does say you better get mean to BOO. If you go back to the episode 9 (I think) right before they pass Japanese pows on the trail...and they were talking about these particular people being Okinawans....he calls that dude boo too again...

  • Snafu is awesome

  • I think the reason why Joe Mazzello had few speaking lines was because he was busy watching Rami Malek act. ;)

  • he is positively diabolical and hypnotic. This scene was Snafu's moment of crowning glory

  • Snafu is the best

  • Sorry, It's: Speirs

  • The "Spiers" of The Pacific

  • "boo" is also a name a lot of us southerners use, kinda like calling someone "babe"

Heres some more info, on the real SNAFU for anyone thats intrested. Google "The real SNAFU" should be first link

On a weird note, SNAFU's home in La. was later owned by one of La.'s most notorious Serial Killers.

  • hes one creepy looking dude.

  • I started out hating him and by the time the show ended, he was my favorite damn character in the entire series. Now that's a brilliant performance by Malek; you never know what Snafu is thinking, but you always feel something when you look at his face or his eyes.

  • @kkarls1

you couldn't have said it better. his eyes are hypnotic and that drawl just reels you in.

  • @kkarls1

he was an ass, but that way he didnt loose any good friends.

It was his way of suriving the war.

I was suprised he didnt crack.

  • @kkarls1 agreed at first i disliked him aswell but as the series goes on, ive become more and more interested with him, my favourite character and by far the best performance in the series aswell. Rami Malek did an amazing job.

  • hes says "boo"

  • No it's boot. Bruce Mckenna confirmed that it's boot no boo.

  • Now that's mean, boot

  • Rami Malek better win a friggin Emmy for his portrayal of Snafu! His performance was so nuanced, complex, heartbreaking, disturbing...and on a shallow note he's also fucking adorable :)

  • @kristachvz lololololol 100%

  • @kristachvz LMAO I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!! Aahahaha nice comment....

  • @kristachvz Better then Heath Leger

  • @kristachvz ha ha thats not shallow he was the only reason i watched the whole series <--- now that shallow lmao

  • Fav Character... amazing performance...

  • Its Boo...like princess...and Cathy.....not Boot.

  • He says you gotta get mean to BOOT.

  • @GNRWrestlingFan

well since he was calling him Cathy and such i figured it was "boo"

  • @AmazingCinemaMoments Oh I know it's kind of hard to understand him but he does say boot.

  • @AmazingCinemaMoments Listen....there is absolutely no T at the end....its Boo...not BooT.

  • @mcf777 he says boo but the producer of TP confirmed that b/c of the new orleans accent it comes out as boo , but its really boots!

  • @mcf777 It's Boot. It sounds like Boo because of he accent, but it was confirmed he says boot, as in "new recruit/wet behind the ears". :)

  • @AmazingCinemaMoments he was empahising "too" means he was probably adressing Cathy as Boo. ur correct.

  • @GNRWrestlingFan

    He actually says,

"You gotta get mean too, boot."

Not much of a difference, but still xD

  • @GNRWrestlingFan Actually hes saying boot as in fresh from bootcamp

  • @BuBuBDunk That's what I said. He say's boot.

  • @GNRWrestlingFan no it's boo he even calls him boo previously.

  • Gotta love us Louisiana boys....

  • This is the best part of the whole movie....Snafu was the only really good character on the show, Boo.

  • I realized by about his second episode appearance that I found him both mildy terrifying and kind of hot. I guess it's the drawl...and the bedroom eyes.

  • Best line of the series.
