@RadioheadHim i'm a senior in high skool and my class mate looks exactly like snafu. face, hair, damn hes even has the same voice. except my class mate is more sane then snafu lol
What does Luz have to do with Snafu? I dont see the connection there.
Luz is a totally diffrent kind of guy. Luz was a great guy, really tender hearted, sweet and funny. Snafu was really tough, kind of harsh but he had a very good heart.
The only thing they have in common are their jokes but even those are very diffrent. Luz is funny, Snafu is Sarcastic and has weird humour.
Snafu is the best character on here as far as entertainment... I love how he says shit with no sign of laughter on his face.. just falls into the other dudes helmet lol
I liked the borderline madness his character seemed to struggle with. I'm bettin combat of the nature they endured would push a fella towards the edge, if not over it. and funny in his own way too.
@Thiagotruth Yes it is, dumbfuck. "Boo" was obviously not common vernacular in the 1940's. "Boot", which references a Marine who is new to the Corps, was - and is still in usage today.
The way he shakes his head as he says 'mean' just makes me laugh. He's amazing. I hope he does a lot more stuff because I just want to keep watching him on screen.
There isn't really much description of what he does in the book. The events that he portrays in the series, for the most part, happened to other marines which sometimes go unnamed in the book. The one part that did happen though is the part where he falls down on the airfield at Peleliu after an explosion and Eugene helps him up, except in reality Snafu took a piece of shrapnel that nearly hits him as a souvenir...
No, the man Malek portrays on here is made up of many different accounts of others who served with Sledge in The Pacific. He was a real person but didn't do half the stuff he does in the series in reality. It's all outlined in Sledge's book- 'With The Old Breed'
I don't mean to be a pickypants but the CC on the DVD says 'boot.' He calls some of the replacements 'boot' from time to time - I wonder if it means 'fresh out of boot camp'?
Snafu is amazing. He kind of reminds me of Gollum, only with better hair. ;)
@lynnfamily4 Generally new men to a unit that have just gotten out of boot camp or advanced training are called "boot". This goes away with time and / or achievement.
@Sturmmann that would make sense...but boo was his nickname...snafu used it becuz he knew it pissed him off :p He gave nicknames to everyone..Sledgehammer...Ballpin hammer...Boo :D
@fallout111111 That's not retardism, that's...I don't really know the form of acting that is, but I really like it, it adds a bit more depth to the character.
He should have been nominated for an emmy, Not becuase he was a great supporting character but simply becuase you feel emotionally attached to him unlike most lead characters like lost, Glee, and mad men. They are all great shows with good characters but Rami just simply played a real person who was easy to remember.
It's two totally different characters... The events of the pacific turned Snafu into a sarcastic unemotional uncaring human being for the most part - which is what the pacific theater did to alot of marines, as what they went through was worse than what others went through in Europe. I gathered in BoB, and from Luz as well, that it was a little easier to keep morale up in the European theater, and men there were a tad more relaxed.
@smellytoilet1996 agreed, but he also had alot more time on screen than snafu did. I mean heck snafu didn't show up until episode 6, either way both are pretty inspiring dudes

@warriorsfromhell cajun is a group of people mainly from louisiana there from french desent and hundreds of years ago they setled in lousiana most white people in new orlenes are cajun
hes says boot, it means new guy, i laughed when i heard it cause i didnt know the marines have been callin our new guys boots that long. but he was definitely my favorite character of the whole series, he was one salty dude, and Rami deserves somethin for his portrayal of snafu for sure
Sledge and Snafu - best characters in the whole show. It didn't really pick up until it started focusing on them, imo.

@amazingcinemamoments you are right. He does say you better get mean to BOO. He calls that dude boo when they pass the Jap Pows...he says it another time too...can't quite recall...but it is boo.
