  • what I love most about this vid (and I've watched it like 15 times) is that he could be playing to 100,000 ppl or 10 ppl, and he'd give just as much to the song. LOVE IT!

  • the crowd saw dave live, had great seats and saw a great concert. but i have something they dont have...a replay button!!

  • check out the douchebag on the phone in back at 3:33

  • @plasticwrapcharlie Usually when I pick up the phone during a set it's to answer and say, "WHY AREN'T YOU AT DAVE'S SET!?"... So I'll give dude the benefit of the doubt.

  • @plasticwrapcharlie And judging by that end 3 seconds he's associated with Dave and that was a business call.

  • Man Dave Matthews sounds mellow when he speaks, but when he sings we get to know how powerful his voice is!!!!

  • is it me or does dave kinda look a little like tom hanks??? :P

  • dear gawd, i love this man

  • This guy is a GENIUS*

  • Dave baby talk 4:45

  • This man is a genius!! He is well beyond thought of suicide and had knowledge about people in depression. I look up to him!! Thank You Dave!!

  • This song is about where I am at now, cant stop drinking, I never thought I'd be here but I am. On my knees.

  • @Famsar listen to Pig from Before These Crowded Streets. All things come to an end brother

  • @Famsar Good luck, my Brother.

  • love dave matthews :D songs and band they making real music can play all the songs :D

  • I love my accoustic music and seriously love this guy to bits - a cracker of a new music find!

  • Yeah U'All ,

I want this song played at my funeral. This song has sooo much meaning to it.

Dave is awesome there will never be another one like him!!!! Check out this web site musicsavesmountains

this is what Dave is up to now........It is a great cause.

  • there are at least ten people in this video I would love to beat senseless, ranging from the bobblehead around 4:00, for his actions in the 3:50 area, to the lady in red conversing throughout with the lady in black before walking away. Don't they know when theyre in the presence of a deity

  • huge dave fan but guitars are made out of wood.

  • best version of this song.

  • 4:19 - 4:28 is pure passion

  • This was in Seattle @ Pike Place Market... It was a pretty dope show (free) he played 5 or 6 songs or something like that

  • Sometimes I wish dave would can his band and just go back to old school stuff. Ever since steve lillywhite it's not as good , very few albums, and too popish.

  • @jacktorse28 Considering the entirety of his music is the way it is because of the whole band's influences, not just his own, he shouldn't be 'canning' anyone. Also, he only produced music with them behind him, so I'm not sure what you could mean by 'old school stuff' without the band. And how do you account for songs like Squirm, Seven, and Lying in the Hands of God? How are they too 'poppish' for you? Some mainstream hits doesn't make him a poor artist; it makes him an extremely smart one.

  • @simplecreativity Maybe I got carried away about "canning" his bandmates. Perhaps it was because Some Devil is the only album I've really enjoyed in the past decade of his(theirs). Since Lillywhite their music is markedly different and I'm not sure how anybody could deny this. I really miss Dave's acoustic guitar which defined their 1st 3 major label albums. To me as a fan they peaked with B4TCStreets and since then i can take it or leave it.

  • @simplecreativity Maybe I've outgrown their sound. This is not to condescend them or their current fans. But their loyal following seems to stay young through the years. Not grow older like others band's followings do which is good for them because therein is the money. Regardless, their latter material doesn't touch me like their earlier stuff and this hasn't happened with other bands I thought reigned supreme over the rest of the music world at one time or another.

  • In dave we trust!

  • great job by dave but thumbs down to the ungratefull douches in the back for not paying attention to the amazing performance, especially the chick with the puffy hair

  • Was this whole show solo? Wow. Amazing stuff.

  • u can be a "tree hugger" but guitars are made out of wood, usually from the rainforrest, i love dave but think about it.

  • @rubyhaleybenjamin Just you buddy....

  • this song is from a time where dave was in a personal low.. he was confused on weather or not all his fame and fortune has currupted him.. truly amazing what can come from such a strong mind going thru such a devestating struggle whithin himself

  • @krazysk8er68 "i wonder if all this gold would steal me away"

  • @rubyhaleybenjamin hahahaha its totally just you.. lmmfao!

  • @rubyhaleybenjamin it's just you.

  • Dave is the man... He rocks the shit outta this song by himself.. ha

  • his opening line is classic. the more i think about it the better it is.

  • "bartender, fill my glass please" don't quit dave matthews.

  • beautiful version -

  • Hmmm the link didn't make it attached to the comment, you can type in "Bartender Folsom Field" and it'll come up. He plays a W15 Taylor Walnut 12-String, its amazing and he has 3 of them side stage in different tunings as well as 6 identical Taylor 914CE guitars each for Alternate tunings and back-ups.

  • this must have been a rare occurrence. i don't want to intentionally doubt you i just, haven't seen this ever and i can say i've been to/watched my fair share of dave concerts... he plays both don't drink the water and bartender at radio city on 6 strings.

  • Ya for sure, when they do their acoustic tours they mainly play the Martins and Dave plays his Taylor GS too. If you seen them play over the past 10 years they use to use the Drop-D tuned 12-String a lot, but now days they or he usually rocks the 6-String Taylors.

  • Yes, Don't Drink The Water and Bartender are in drop D, usually played with his 12-Strings. He does some really cool things with Raised-B Tuning too, he's pretty much amazing! For his Raised-B tunes like "Stay or Leave" or "Baby Blue" you can capo on the 7th or 8th fret and attain a pretty similar timbre.....

  • he most definitely does not play either of those songs with a 12 string...

  • Heres a link to Dave playing "Bartender" in Drop-D tuning, on his 12 STRING GUITAR! Be Well.

  • is this song in drop d?? its sounds deeper than that but maybe its just the guitar

  • beautiful :)

  • Fuckin' Great!!!!

  • TREEHUGGER RIGHT UP THERE WITH YA love you

  • This seems to be one of those videos that has been lost over the years in respect to the larger realm of the new mainstream music world b/c of it's "home video" appearance but also simultanioiusly keeps it authentic and as real as anything bringing Dave closer to his fans and the rest of the world. This will resurface in the future as one of the best individual performances by not only Dave but anyone with a guitar and a mic, ever. Thanks for capturing it in time forever.

  • such an amazing voice! such an amazing singer and such an amazing person!

  • Dave Matthews looks like a mix between Tom Hanks and Alex Skuby. Look the second guy up its halarious.

  • haha that's awesome

  • my dad likes this song

  • DAves willingness to do these types of events is so cool...so taleneted and so humble....whata treat for these folks...

  • One of Dave's best!!!!

  • dude i want to punch the dick face on the left on his phone, moron

  • you know what, he kinda does look loike a dickface

  • this guy can show

  • this ones not bad but...the best version of this song is at radio city...its phenomenal

  • Probably one of my favs no matter how I heard it. What a treat to get to see this!!! I have these lyrics on a DMB tat. Thanks for the post

  • i prefer his solo version of this song to the version on Busted Stuff

  • its like when he talks he acts stupid, but hes amazing with a guitar, thats the role hes trying to play, kinda funny.

  • He acts stupid and crashes everyone around with the deepness in his speaches.. this is the role he's playing, making the most amazing point, dont judge only by what you see...

  • In the storytellers version he says roll one up for me...like once

  • how he said that 1st line was gay, just play music dont talk lol your personality is shitty at times

  • dude ..wtf hes got so much personality..hes got some to spare

  • he has the best stage presence

  • lol he almost played DDTW :D

    sooo good !! <3

  • You can tell dave puts so much heart and soul behind his "bended knees" lyrics and in all of his works

  • who cares....dave could play a stick and make it sound beautiful...

  • AMEN BROTHA

  • Dave Plays a Martin HD-28 VE

  • Yes. He does play the HD-28V. But that is his signature model. The DM3MD. Quite possibly the finest guitar that Martin has ever made, and not just because it's the Dave Matthews model.

  • yeah tis a martin

  • martin DM3MD i believe

  • what's he playing a Martin?

just judging by the headstock i would say it is but i'm not entirely sure

  • MUUSSSSSHRROOOOMS. (say it reeaaaal slllooooow) Play it Dave, fanfuckintastic is what i say.

  • Amazing.

  • Matthews and Lennon were the main reasons i started playing more with my acoustics instead of the ole electric

  • Same with me haha. Only its more Dave then John.

  • I have to say, I am a huge fan of Dave and the DMB... my favorite band, bar none... but he does look a little baked. At times, well frankly MOST of the time, his eyes are half closed. But hey, if the guy want's a joint? He's a living legend, give him a break... and a joint. You know?

  • I swear this guy never takes a day off

  • This is so fantastic. Wow..

  • hes the best this have to say one of his best performance ive seen

  • where in seattle was this?

  • the small park next to pike place market

  • So young then, but Dave sings just as great or better now than ever! Love it all.

  • I'm not dissagreeing with you that Dave still sings well. But to say he sings better now then during the early 90's is just wrong in my opinion. I think maybe you should watch some vids around the 90's. No dissrespect just differnce of opnion. PEACE.

  • Yeah, definitely love watching Dave in all his singing decades. 90's had younger, higher pitched nasal tone, 00's has deeper, fuller tone. Dancing always.....

  • This comment would make since if Dave was "so young then". This was just a few years ago and he sounds the same today as he did during this performance.

  • I'd say this was 6 or 7 years ago. 2002 in Seattle?

  • 2002 at the seattle marry time festival. i was there. first time i ever heard him!

  • thats awesome. I saw Dave and Tim last year in Seattle at Key Arena. That's gotta be the coolest place ive seen him yet. I'm hoping to go to the Gorge this year!

  • bad ass

  • i hate foorw heelers, and airplains

  • RIP Lerio Moore.

  • Listening to Dave play is such a beautiful thing.

  • i love his guitar playing...

  • yea its soo good

  • DAVE MATTHEWS IS GOD!!!!

  • God is God...

  • for all those dont like dave fu** you hes the genius of the rock world along with U2

  • I was there, cool jam. Dave signed a guitar and rocked. Too the haters, we love pearl jam....Dave is cool.

  • than why are you on this page dirt bag !

  • lol you are "fricken" weird

  • please explain how he is a fraud again... ? last time i checked, having talent didn't make you a fraud.... by all means, correct me if i'm wrong tho....

  • stop whining. just because you dont like his concert voice type thing doesnt mean hes a fraud. get over yourself

  • awesome.. this song gave me chills i wanna see dave this close. i seen him twice but on lawn seats. still one of the best concerts ive seen. love the ways he dances!

  • oh! he's good, i wish i can see him soon. I will have to travell 'cos they don't play in mexico it's a shame.

  • When was this?

  • WOW!

  • I was at that concert and have I think over an hour of footage...he played WAY longer than anyone expected, and there must have been only about 300 of us there.

It was truly amazing hanging out 10 ft away from him and listening to him play...Ive got it all on hi-8 but nothing to get it onto my computer with!

  • When was this solo? Was it announced or just him setting up shop? What a cool show to be at!

  • it was a fund raiser for a eco. organization in seattle.

it was supposed to be a secret, but the newspaper leaked a paragraph long blurb in the middle of one of the events pages that he might be there, so i figured why not go check it out...they didnt lie!

  • must have been '03...I think?

  • i want that footage... PLEASE!

  • he wasent trippen anything.....faggs

  • Why does everyone assume that Dave Matthews is always "tripping" on something? I don't think he could play like he does if he was "tripping"

  • I don't think he's tripping on anything either...but...Hendrix did it. Why not Dave?

  • hes probably just high

  • Yeah seriously its starting to get annoying.

I dont think he would ever come on stage tripping thats just retarded.

  • Great video and version of this song. He's amazing! He often sings the same song differently, but he makes it fantastic every time. I just love him.

  • Does anyone have any more video from this day of him? That is the best performance I've seen him ever do of that song!

  • guess you havn't seen live at radio city....?

  • guess both of you havent heard 4.7.2002

  • radio city is far superior

  • DAVE for president! Dave is a good man, you can't complain about how much money he makes, for one thing we're the ones buying the albums and going to shows...and, he gives so much of it away to people and causes the deserve it...I support dave 100%, not just because I've been listening to his music since I was a kid, but beacause he really stands for something great.

  • at around 2:55, he changes the chord a measure too early and just shouts through the mistake... even when he's imperfect, he still sounds better than anyone else.

  • I don't think it was a mistake. He changes things up a lot - especially solo.

  • Dave thinks his views are the best? Not at all, he's even stated that much during a lot of D&T shows. Dave and DMB do so much good for the world, whether it be the environment or various charities. They offset 100% of the emissions their buses put out during tour.

  • daves a legend.....who gives a fuck about global warming and shit......fuckin trees are getting in the way away

  • Also, think about Hurricane Katrina, and New Orleans. How many homes has our own U.S. Govt. been able to erect? Well I know DMB has helped build over 300, and re-build musicians villiage!

  • I forgive Dave for coming off hard headed, but he believes he and us can make a difference. I don't know Dave, but I do know someone close to and Artist that has opened for DMB quite a bit. And from what I gather he is a very comedic guy with hope of a better life for our children, and childrens children!

  • This is how arrogant Dave is.....He purchased over 1,200 acres of land making up 5 farms around Virginia Tech University to ensure that concrete and fast food restaurants don't go up! Bet no one heard about that, and therein lies the problem, you only hear what the media chooses to let you hear. There is so many donations made by DMB as well as others that go completely silent in the minds of the media, but they are quick to let you know whos dating who.

  • I agree with the second half of your comment. but arrogant?? I think your missing the mark.

  • This was 2002 in Sept or October at the Pike Place Market

  • What year is this??????????

  • i agree with jiggity, Dave is a great guy. You can't really say hes an arrogant prick. But he does have strong opinions about most stuff and i don't think he is willing to see things from other ppl's view. But doesnt everybody do that?

  • if you like DMB, i would like to invite you to watch our home produced live music videos...our music is original and we hope to capture the listener who is appreciative of home grown organic music and jammin...tell us what u think and subscribe to qeqo23 if you would like to be updated on more live entertainment and when we finish our cd.....thanks

  • must disagree with tsteffen. i think he's still in touch with his founding audience. you may be right to a degree, but i think he's one of the least corrupted of all big artists. i think his lyrics explain a lot of it... maybe just my interpretation.

  • he does that ending in don't drink the water, the falsetto kinda thing he does is in the rhythm and stuff as dont drink the water.

  • very talented and love his music. but he is an arrogant prick who thinks his views are the best!

  • arrogant prick? He lives in a suburban "normal" house in Seattle, gives most of his tour money away, rarely turns down autograph signings, self-depricates every chance he gets, thanks fans profusely during concerts, ...the list goes on...He doesn't seem like an arrogant prick to me. Just because he's speaks strongly about preserving the environment doesn't make him a prick.

  • Dave also played a free concert for returning students at Virginia Tech in septembre.

  • I wish I could sing... :(

    Dave is amazing... hands down.

  • hes' wasted

  • why would you even say that, idiot.

  • awesome!! can't imagine standing so near him :) fantanstic

  • Awesome. Dave is my Idol!

  • Anyone know what year this was?

  • daves awesome, he's unique, talented and well enough said

  • I LOVE YOU DAVE!! YOU're the best.. the best band at all

  • Awesome song, great musician, love the this land outro!

  • that was great.... you can really tell he was into it. cool ending too! Thx

  • Dave matthews is a god

  • An agnostic god...

  • I don't think he's agnostic anymore. Once his daughters were born, he didn't believe in that.

  • Amazing, amazing, AMAZING performance.

  • great song
