They've done this totally acoustic thing a few times at the old Civic Center in Madison, WI, on State Street. As the one post said earlier, they ask for everyone to be quiet and they just belt out one of their great tunes with just the strength of their awesome voices and their guitars. It's one of the most powerful things I've ever seen done live.
One of my greatest concert memories was seeing the BoDeans at U of Illinois in the mid 90's (Closer to free was a big hit due to Party of Five). Just like described by the poster, Sammy and Kurt came out and asked for, and got, complete silence. They played It's only love completely unmiked. Their voices were the only sounds in the theater. When they finished, the place erupted.
Re: The Sting and midwest comments. I grew up out East, and moved to Illinois in the 90s, and I don't think people realize how big the BoDeans were in the midwest at that time. When they played the U of I, there were huge lines to get tickets and every venue was packed. They even had their own cover band ("Naked" I believe) working out of Chicago. I saw them 4 years ago in the DC area at a local club, and I was able to get right in front at the stage with no problem.
Unfortunately, a lot of legal problems with their former manager occurred right at the height of their popularity, and kinda took the wind out of their sails. Eight years between the last disc and "Resolution" was too much time. They are picking up steam again though, and the new one is out March 4th! It sounds great - possibly the best they've done to date! Give a listen!
Thanks for the heads up-I saw on their web site they were recording again but didn't know when it was coming out. I just found out they're playing in DC on April 2. Can't wait to see them again.

Was that the show in '93 that was opened by a relative unknown by the name of Sheryl Crow?
