  • Pausing was done on the console. It was terribly frustrating when you had to get up to push pause and accidentally pushed the restart button which was located right beside the pause button. That being said, SMS was highly superior to the NES

  • I wouldn't see a problem using this controller on a Sega Genesis or Megadrive?

  • Great music for this vid.

  • Review the Master System itself please!

  • I am selling a SMS, PM me

  • I've seen one of those before, waaaay too small for my hands nowadays.

  • GOLVELLIUS!!!

  • You have some kick ass music for these reviews.

  • why have that shitty music playing whilst you are talking?? damn its annoying!!

  • SEGA VS NINTENDO (whos The winner) ?

  • @anassgame Company or console you mean? Probably Nintendo either way really, except that the Dreamcast was way cooler than the Gamecube.

  • Comment removed

  • u know what was wow, was that you could use this pad on C64 as well.

  • So how do you pause? From the system or something?

  • @PSspecialist yep

  • @fctar, Alex Kidd was not the mascot for the Master System. It was "Opa Opa", that little spaceship thing with Wings and it was in several Master system games like Fantasy zone and used as an extra in several other games. Although he/it wasn't as well known as Alex kidd or Sonic.

  • I bought a house a few weeks ago and found 4 of these bad boys still in their wrapping, never used in the attic space :D

  • @wandatowell

    Whoa shit

The console's probably hidden somewhere in that house too

  • @wandatowell so lucky

  • @wandatowell That is great.

  • you should do the sega master system console review

  • why you people dont Care about that Nice console the SEGA MASTER SYSTEME its agood console , i buy my one with with 2 Euros !

its a good console have a Amazing designe !

  • Nice review. Is this system worth getting. I found one at a local store for about 40 dollars. What if I have a Atari 7800 already. Also have all the other sega systems except for this and the GameGear.

  • @ATARI800XLfan Might as well just get a Genesis Power Bass Converter, as long as you have a model 1 Genesis

  • Yeah, I would like to play PS3 with an NES controller.

  • Anyone remember Alex Kidd on this System? :P

  • @xHozzah my first video game inside the sms 2...

  • @xHozzah never had a Master System? :(

  • Where is the joystick attachment?

This one doesn't even look like it has a joystick hole.

  • anyone else get sent here from regular show?

  • i think that's the most comfortable controller i ever played with.

until the xbox 360 of course...

  • I too use a Genesis controller when playing my SMS. I prefer to use the 3 button controller instead of the 6 button Genesis controller.

Did you know that the PAL Atari 7800 console replaces the awful controllers we got with a control pad? Similar to the NES and SMS control pad, it's a much better controller.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • I love the Master System, but find the controller to be a bit difficult to use, mainly due to the odd d-pad. But I do love the style it has...the NES gamepad, the SMS gamepad and the "euro" Atari 7800 gamepad each have their own design flaws, but they are also among the best-looking, stylish, beautiful controllers out there.

  • ah tah?

  • Alex The Kid In Merical World <3

  • sega and all their crazy add ons.. lmao

  • Didn't some of them have a snap in control stick in the middle of the direction pad?

  • @kidd912thomas yes, I had a master system that had that feature on the controllers. There was a little tab you could remove in the middle of the d-pad and you could screw in a little stick. Many a time my thumb was red and numb after hours of shinobi and space harrier *laughs*

  • Respond to this video...

I love you dude, your reviews rock

  • I like that controller a lot; but how would you pause a game?

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 There is a pause button on the console itself. The feature was carried over to the Sega Power Base Converter for the Sega Genesis, which plays Sega Master System Games.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 The pause button was on the console itself. I've played on a Master System before and it's was a pain in the ass to pause it that way.

  • screw the master system I have a game gear

  • wow u have a dog

  • NES PADS ARE THE MOST CLASSIC PADS OUT THERE

  • Subscribed.

    Man you're my hero!

I was born in '93 but growing up my family didn't have a lot of money so I always had older consoles that were out in stores for the most part.

    Keep up the good work.

  • @tokrs420

    same here broo

  • bieber rules

  • wow, my first console!

  • And you can use it for the C64 too!

  • How do you pause the Master System games?

  • @FlamingBat you dont

  • @OSeuKumiama So if you have the sudden urge to relieve yourself or the doorbell or phone rings, that's just too bad?

  • @FlamingBat Yes, believe me, i had one of those.

Altough i was like 5, so I didnt have to pick up the phone nor answer who was on the door.

  • @FlamingBat i think it might have a button on the cosole itslef or it didnt have pause it wasnt required back then (for example ghost busters 2 on the nes

  • Woah... this was my first controller...

  • My controller had a spot in the middle of the d-pad to screw in a little nub-style joystick. I hated the joystick add-on, but it was a cool idea.

  • im sure the same port was on my uk commodore 128? i may be wrong

  • @l3v1at10n666 It was, all the old PCs used Atari-compatible DB9 ports for controllers.

  • Has mark not done a console review of the sms? I can't find it, it just seems like he would've done one by now.

  • @clayw212 he doesn't have one. watch 2:45

  • When is Mark gonna do a review of the console!?

  • I need controller, can anyone help me ?? Where i can find it ??

  • @Destyny00 E-Bay :)

  • My first console.

  • SEGA FUCKING SUCKS

I EPIC LOLED HARD WHEN AVGN BURNED THE 32x HAHA IT PROBABLY SMELLED LIKE SHIT AM GUNNA BUY ANY SEGA CONSOLE AND BURN THEM SUM BITCHES LIKE AVGN DID.

  • @metriodpower

well, the 32x really suck at shit. but i have to admit, i still love Sega and the Genesis.

    maybye the dreamcast too.

either way, Sega and Nintendo were amazing.

  • @metriodpower hey troll, how are you doing?

  • @playinandworking09 Quiet you

  • @metriodpower you really need to stop licking mens nipples...

  • I played Alien Syndrome on the SMS with it's original controller and ALWAYS had a hard time getting through it (like, up to the 3rd or 4th stage). Then I did something awful... I cut the corners off of the D-Pad so that it was a '+' shape. After that I was able to play Alien Syndrome all the way through. The difference was night and day.

  • does it work on the atari 2600 too? you only mentioned it working on the 7800 but i assume itd work on the 2600 just use one of the buttons?

  • That control pad was hell on my thumbs compared to the NES controller.

  • Comment removed

  • sega did some good D-pads when they were making consoles (apart from the dreamcast)

  • Ya, please do a master system review

  • Review the Master System console please!

  • @acidsyringe69 he doesnt have a masters system only a power base converter for the genesis

  • my uncle had the ms shit was dope cuz it came with a free game inside the system how dope is that lol

  • @slick1hit that was the master system 2 i think

  • when it said the thing about the classic game room page with game reviews organized by game console, i though the console were organizing the review instead of Mark.

  • i had a official ms pad that you could remove the centre of the d pad,and screw in a mini stick, it was just awful

  • Did you know, that you can use the Master system controller on the C64? Just plug it into the joystick port. It is lot more comfortable than a joystick.

  • you can also use the controller with the old amstrad, spectrum and commodore computers. those plugs were the usb's of the 80's

  • i swear i found a 15 Dollar master system at a savers, and i made the biggest mistake ever, i bought a cable modem instead , i swaer im the biggest ass in the world

  • Back in my after-school camp a few years ago, we had a Master System and a Genesis, with games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Desert Storm. Good times. :)

  • I like playing Sonic 2 with my Colecovision controller... lol jk, but I've tried it.

  • would you like to trade a model 1 PAL master system (2 built in games which are hang on and safari hunt) with a light phaser for that power base converter?

  • I'm pretty sure there were other systems and things this controller can be used for (such as, and I might be wrong, the "ZX Interface 2" for the Spectrum computer)

  • My part of the US never got the SMS or Power Base Converter.... What a bummer.

  • @iamspider If it's any consolation, it's not very easy to find in the UK, either.

  • I myself prefer pad controllers than joysticks myself for some reason.

  • I seriosly think the master systems underated, everyone seems to recal every sega console that came after it, but no one talks about the console that had Psycho Fox, Phantasy Star, and Golden Axe Warrior.

  • does this this work on the 2600?

  • this controller is also works on atari 2600 clone systems!))))

  • cool.... reminds me of incredible times, were my troubles was only how to finish sonic without lose any life in the entire game...

i should buy a controller of these just to remember i was happy once..

  • @celsothedevil ....word... :(

  • @celsothedevil Yes but now you have achievements to do that FOR you! You know for starting the game up, for ruining multiplayer matches by doing things that don't help teams. That's how it's done, the companies putting out "challenges" for you. Because it's difficult to turn on your console.

  • @celsothedevil I know that feeling all too well. Don't ya miss the days where you didn't have to give a damn about anything? lol

  • @celsothedevil dramatic much?

  • weirdly. i have a controller but i cant find the system...

  • tears just came to my eyes.....

  • stop reviewing controllors!

  • @RexmanNES stop touching yourself at night!

  • @lildrummerboy4life hey i touch myself at night.

  • @HyperSonic30770

So did my big brother when I was younger. I used to wonder why I had saliva on my pee pee in the morning.

  • @lildrummerboy4life lol!!!!!!!!!0_0

  • I still have a Master System and a Mega Drive.

  • sniiifff..ah..the smell of eighties christmas ghosts in these vids..

  • i had a master system but it got stolen about 15 years ago...wanted to shoot the thieves for it.....the controllers only flaw was that there was no pause feature on it....you had to go to the console and press pause.....so if you owned an original master system you knew to keep the console close when playing....an otherwise excellent and fun system.....very nostalgic....miss the 80s....

  • In soviet Russia, control-pad controls YOU!!!!!!!!

  • I like the old NES controller, until about an hour with it because the pad kills my thumb so I can barely play.

  • I'm getting a Sega Master System and I'm just a young teenager who's just getting in to classic gaming, you REALLY should get one too :P

  • Oh man this is so funny.

Perfect commentary for blind people too ;o)

    God bless you Americans!

  • Tufford

  • my cell phone bigger then that geez what where they thinking.

  • Comment removed

  • The sega master system controller I have has a little plastic in the middle of the of the control pad.

  • Damn look at all the segas. you think we would know who it was made buy after one or two.

  • you could also use the sega master system controller to an Amiga i remember from when i was a kid hehe

  • where do you get all of this bad ass music, Mark?

  • I recently got the Genesis and I think id rather get the attachment that can play the SMS games instead of getting the whole thing

  • I have a Sega Master System that I brought out of the closet i've never played before. It starts up with the two built in games but when I put in a cartridge it dosent seem to read it and still goes to the start up screen with the two pre-loaded games. Any ideas of why this happens?

  • @dgunn001 Try blow the cartrigdes.

  • @grinnellalarms

oh sorry did i offend you by saying the controller and system sucks, im sorry you're such a loser that loves video games too much to take such offence

  • Good console but i think the controller was a bit fragile

  • I have sega master system 2 almost brand new(not for sale ofcourse) in its box with alex kidd built in and 8 more games!

  • this game just shows how hardcore I am in gaming, I was 3 when this came out and I got 1 then

  • i wonder how many people used thier master system pad as a weopen when fighting over the console with their broithers and sister. the old consoles caused alot of fights but great console in it time.

  • i will start collecting but i dont really wanna start with the nintendo 8bit it rarley works -.- any suggestions for a beginner?

  • @Apfitt, how about an Atari 7800? It plays both Atari 7800 games and Atari 2600 games.

  • @Ollie7475 Thanks i will check it out :)

  • @Apfitt sega mega drive imo..cheap, durable and easy to find hundreds of good games boxed with instruction manuals.still has more of a retro feel to it then snes and is a good few years older although i love em both to bits..

  • I love the gigantic fighting stick on that controller.

  • i loved that one...better than any dualshock and those.... miss my sega :(

  • @extaza555

Lol cmon.. Yeah Master System was great but any PSX controller is 10000 times better.

  • i never played a ms

but im thinkin about gettn one cus at goodwill they got a shitload of em for 15buks

  • That Sega Master System Control Pad Looks Like a TV Remote But With 4 Buttons.

  • i wish that i was born in '65 to watch the evolution of video games :(

  • @bleachzeldakid and be stuck with a atari for years? not me kiddo.

  • @sayastra you wouldn't know any better console. some day, our kids will be wondering how we even survived with xbox 360s, PS3s and wiis. Scary thought huh?

  • @bleachzeldakid i don't own any of those.... i only recently bough a ps2 (in part for ps1 games like Crash, and Spyro) i still wouldn't want to relive that stuff.... i could see going back to maybe 85 because by then you could buy a shit load of atari, coleco, intellvision stuff for dirt cheap (part of the reason i wait to buy consoles) and then when 96 or so came around, cheap NES and SMS stuff

  • Mine crashed :(

  • i'd be better off playing game gear instead...lol

  • wuts so great about a masters system?

  • gamepads today are all either playstation or xbox controller lookalikes. noone dares to be innovative. and for games back then 2-3 buttons were enough. look at the mess today: 2 analog sticks, a d-pad and 12 more buttons all over the place.

  • @temujin9000 i agree todays controllers are bit confusing that y i love retro games i think we need to do back to the innovative but simple design like it was meant to be

  • I loved the Joystick one it had like a stick-shift sized analog on it.

  • @NoSuRReNDeR001 Sega Control Stick?

  • @SPeacock Yeah that was it !I had that ! Was only good for certain games likes Afterburner...

  • @NoSuRReNDeR001 Is it any better than the standard-issue Sega Control Pad?

  • @SPeacock No Not really it worked great for certain types of games but in general i remember only using for games like Hang-On...It was rather akward on platformers like Wonderboy...or games that required precision like Choplifter...

  • Fucking awesome!

I just bought the master system I boxed.

    Bring back the 80's!

  • Cool Geez

  • It was and still is a nice controller. I used to love playing Alex kidd in miracle world back in the day,

  • @GrimReaper007 screw you

  • If you play Alien Syndrome, Wonder Boy in Monster Land & Penguin Land of the Sega Genesis via Power Base Converter, you WILL need the Sega Master System controller to play.

  • classic system very under rated

  • I have a SMS 2 too!

  • How have you managed to get nearly 4 minutes out of a two button controller?

  • A note on the controllers being cross-compatible. You can actually use the Master System and Genesis controllers with your ColecoVision! I don't recall for sure but I believe if you have a Genesis 6-button controller, those top gray buttons will activate the 1,2 and 3 keypad buttons from the Coleco. Otherwise you have to first start your game, and then swap the controllers.

  • Works with Amstrad CPC too !

  • -COUGH- 60's were best

  • @treverpatey how?

  • @mariokiller55 nothin to do!! but go to weird partys and do weed it was lame late eightys were the best lots of video games partys just like then with the acception of newer ones dirt bikes quades! nice parents! mario plushies!

    those were the days

  • Well, it looks like a NES controller, but cooler.

  • Well, it looks like a NES controller, but cooler.

  • sega master system II mit Alex Kidd Alex Kidd in Miracle World war das geilste :D

  • Is it just me or are the Atari 7800, NES and SMS controllers very similar?

  • @ProManUnitedFan Same generation, same kind of just invented controller, some kinds of game, I think.

  • i have a sega master system 2!!

  • @TheMeleemasterX we had it too.. but my mother trew it away when we were older... we had other stuff... but i'm going to buy sega's ultimate collection on the xbox... good old days;)

  • @TheMeleemasterX He doesn't have one. He bought the controller to play on his Genesis with the Backwards Compatibility Cartridge Connector.

  • I fucking love the 90s

  • @Shaabangah

    who doesn't?!?!
