  • @Hyyra Yes, I'm Russian. In there we serve it with mashed potatoes and the sauce itself is a little bit more browny-buttery. Delicious.

  • stroganof is very typical food in finnish schools. i like it. its very good but i guess not that good as real russian stroganof

  • chef john has people from all over the world watching him. let's all send e mail's 2 the food network and get him a show !!!!!

  • OMG I subbed your food looks goooooood!:) Thank you!

  • Just made this for my lunches this week. Easy to prepare just takes a long while to get the meat nice and tender. The butcher gave me the first cut of top round which looked absolutely gorgeous!

  • if y'all don't have white wine, you can use vinegar diluted..

  • When ever im mad about something i watch one of your vids, your voice calms me down.

  • why the hell do i watch this ... i can't even afford meat like that ... how much does a piece of this size cost ?! Damn it :'(

  • @TheChiodas i payed about $8 for a pretty big cut of it at a Safeway just tonight.

  • @andrewneedsalawn well that is not as much as i thought it would be. Maybe i got to check some stores :) But maybe in Germany the prices are a little different ;) Cheers

  • browning isnt always a wonderful thing, how would you feel if someone browned you in a pan?

  • @tangypasta if it means i'll get a tan, i'm down!

  • miam

  • Haha, I remember this dish. I ordered it at a restaurant near the cinema I was going to, and it was HORRIBLE. The chefs clearly didn't know how to make this dish. But wish THIS tutorial, I hope I'll be able to dig it in someday :)

  • Made this last night. It is a wonderful recipe, but make sure to use a large, 12'' + non stick pan:)

  • @Allisa4757 using a stainless steel pan will give you more flavor with more of those "brown thing" at the bottom of the pan.

  • @Allisa4757 why would you use non-stick for this? Someone moves the meat too much in the pan before letting it cook, that's why it sticks!

  • Ha ha ha!!!! Putin. Usually, doing the joke once is enough but I actually laughed both times. Tee he. I'm making this to---night!!!

  • Russian, Italian, American... God you just have a colorful little background with all the nummy foods, don't you?!? xP

  • The only thing to serve with Stroganoff is mashed potatoes...

  • Always stir the pasta and the sauce together before you serve!

  • @ClemtoonLovezAll yes, you are completely right i tried first like in the video, and then the way you say it its much better thank you:D

  • @ClemtoonLovezAll In Italy yes but it's not like this is Italian. I've seen this over rice and even potatoes; point is just adding a starch...

  • lunch time is 1 hour away .... :(

  • putting. Putin, pootin'. :)

  • "is that racist? probably." lmao

  • Looks great. I love stroke-me-off. HAHA!!

  • I love beef stroganoff, love it, and this recipe is pretty good. But in my books its not beff stroganoff with out Paprika, lots and lots of paprika. Oh and i also use red wine as i like the sauce to be a little richer!

  • i tried it and it was really good but it doesnt even compare to what u can eat in Russia...

i should ask my grandmother for her all recipe one day, she makes the best meals ive ever eaten

  • Let the viewers know that if they decide to use sour cream instead of cream fresh to lower the heat whilst stirring at the end. Yummy. I'm going to use sour cream and it will be delicious. You're the best 25% Russian I know!

  • My butcher never knows what I'm asking for specifically. I thought he was a good butcher, but I'm just gonna use a sirloin for this!

  • have you ever tried buttermilk its a healthier choice to cream some dishes up

  • and a little bit of creeme freesh.

  • "Is that racist? Probably..."

    hmm.... *subscribes*

  • Don't forget to putin some sour cream on top

  • I made this dish twice in the last two months and I served it with whole wheat linguine. It was tasty. Next time I make this I'll make it super spicy & with more seasoning for the meat. Great recipe.

  • I do want to learn more russian cooking, i'll give this a try!

  • Stroganoff is much nicer with rice

  • Ha! Racist..hilarious!

  • barf

  • mmmmm meat browned in it's own juices, it is a beautiful thing,

  • Foooood wishes with Chef John! This guy's voice just irritates me to my my spines, and damn he seems so .....pretentious? I guess it's just me. Lay off being sooo full of yourself aaaannndd give everyone a chance to cook. WOW, his voice just comes off like his little pinky is going to fly away!

  • @DickLodge68 Trollin' trollin' trollinnnn!

  • @DejectedDonkey It's my opinion...what I'm not entitled to it?

  • @DickLodge68 no you're not. Why take the time to insult him? You're just TROLLIN' TROLLIN' TROLLINNNNN

  • Thanks for the simplicity. This is going to be good.

  • why no potato!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • never trust a skinny chef

  • mmmmm buttery~

  • Putin on the Ritz I see.

  • No rosemary?

  • Mala detz Chef John.

  • 25% out of 140% Russian...

  • I prepared your recipe for my sister and brother in-law and it was a HIT!!!! I suggest using more onions and mushrooms(onions melt away)..Next time I will use creme fraiche (home-made of coarse).. Thanx again,Dennis

  • Chef John, you forgot the potato sticks!

  • The only recipe that can calm down a raging Bosco "B.A." Baracus.

  • Superrrrrrr!!!!

  • Chef John, Worchester sauce is essential to this dish.(not to much.... just enough) You should add it and try it:)

  • I like it when the cook tastes it at the end....its the money shot

I need it after the build up.

  • every time u say enjoy, u sound like homer simpsons

  • Excuse me,sir, but you can't be 25% russian, true russians descendants are 140% russian. ;)

  • I love your videos :)!

  • can you make this without the wine and put water or something else instead?

  • Yay for racism! In Soviet Russia, beef stroganoff you!

  • Hi Sir, My Stroganoff beef is actually cooking right now and it smells awfully good. I think the secret is to absolutely get the bottom of the pan. I taste the mushrooms and oignons and god, this is good. Since I'm on a diet, I'm gonna replace sour cream by Plain Greek yogurt. I already did that a while ago, with vanilla yogurt. It tasted vanilla, I will get it this time! I'm gonna watch more of your videos for sure. I did learn usefull cooking tips there.

    Thanks!

  • I like you.

  • i dont even cook but these videos are awsome

  • Yummy!

  • at 4:10 to the end my mouth was WATERING. I was almost TASTING it!

  • It is 12:46 AM... I don't know why I'm watching this before going to bed. Mouth is watering, stomach is growling, and now I can't sleep. Force my self to sleep or make this in the kitchen right now, only to wake people up.... what to do....

  • How can you be 25% russian?

  • @zeroin1991 One of your parents has to be half...?

  • @zeroin1991 From having one grandparent ... ?

  • Jesus thats a lot of fat

Oh and, man, I rarely cook because I simply am hopeless but after watching a good few videos from you, I've managed to master a good few recipes. I even made changes to suit my taste and personalize it a little more too. Thanks for the awesome videos man! :]

  • Hi Chef, Can you please recommend wines that are good for cooking ???? As I am not a wine drinker, please Help Me. :-)

  • @tbonds007 Any quality drinking wine. Depending on where you live, something in the $10-$15 range (that me be useless to you, let me know where you live). The rule of thumb is that it is drinkable (not called 'cooking wine', ironically) but not an expensive wine that would be wasted on cooking.

  • @ianman6 Thanks for the advice. I ask ed a co-worker who is a wine drinker and she recommended a $5 bottle of wine. I added a lot of beef broth to the wine. This recipe came out great. Thanks again for your help. :-)

  • I wanna call you as my uncle :)

  • I want himm.. to be my father..

  • Yum! Looks good. This is made with slice beef. Stroganoff is usually made with ground beef.

  • That uncut meat looked beautiful!

    Great recipe..

  • It looks great...Maybe u forgot the pickles..But.I'don't know.We use it in Hungary..But u know,different places,different tricks...cheers

  • This made my farts fucking insanely hot, thanks for nothing you faggots.

  • I love the way you make this because it gives me a option to use or not use Mushrooms since I ma allergic to mushrooms

  • Looks great! Can't wait to try it!

  • I'll be putin this in my mouth!

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Dont trush skinny chefs

  • @narutoSU8D Actually that is a pile of rubbish, everyone loves my cooking and i'm slim. The weight of the person whether fat or slim is determined by the Pituary Gland in the brain, it's got nothing to do with whether someone is a bad cook or not. There are some bad cooks who are fat! I knew one. Infact someone said i should be a chef, as my cooking is just as good if not better than is served in some restaurants.

  • were is the curry?

  • I sure as hell wouldn't like to "brown in my own juices"

  • I like to brown the meat with less water; on the other hand, your creme fraiche suggestion was perfect.

Incidentally, I went to my butcher for the cut of chuck you requested and he kicked me in the groin and taunted me with, "is that tender enough for ya!!"

It was in front of my wife and children, John.

I'll never take the advice of a great quarter-Russian chef again.

  • ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  • Cain, ur weird. You ask for substitutes and u are answered... Then you turn your nose up again... Of course people will laugh at you!

    Great recipe!!!! Foodwishes ftw

  • I made this. It was awesome.

  • What is a good substitute for mushrooms? I can't stand them.

  • @CainmosniMirrored

Mushrooms are a unique food with a very distinct taste and texture. Not sure if there is an obvious "substitute" for them. However, you can compensate for the loss of flavor by maybe adding diced celery and carrot. Cheers.

  • @GretzkyTheWonderDog I don't know how people can stomach mushrooms. They are disgusting. Celery is good but I only eat it by itself, I cant stand it mixed in with other food.

  • @CainmosniMirrored thats what happens when your raised on mcdonalds and you have no culinary experience or background....MUSHROOMS=UMAMI

  • @aamcsween That is a very ignorant comment to make. I simply do not like them. Tell me, do you like every type of food?

  • @pmharl Bullshit.

  • @CainmosniMirrored see you found some fans. enjoy, unsubscribe and no more worries. if you cant appreciate food, then, yes mcdonalds is for you. have a nice life. peace 15 year old

  • @CainmosniMirrored srry if i offended you cain, wait no im not...i hate alotta things but it's things that i have eaten alot through my life....and it's proof you have no culinary experience or maybe your taste buds are dead from mcdonald french fries

  • @aamcsween Once a douche, always a douche.

  • @aamcsween Actually, my taste buds are the exact opposite. They are super sensitive to tastes and that is why I can't stand mushrooms, fish or any kind of seafood. The flavor is too overwhelming and tastes gross to me. You are the one with the dull taste buds. It has nothing to do with eating McDonalds. I hate McDonalds food.

  • damn that looks tasty.

  • What is the British equivalent of chuck?

  • @fatcat2939 I have the same problem.

It's like they're using a different species of cow over there.

  • @MercSLRFan

LOL.......After a bit of digging, I think its the shoulder of the unfortunate animal. Still don't know though......

    Sort of puts me off....
