Just made this for my lunches this week. Easy to prepare just takes a long while to get the meat nice and tender. The butcher gave me the first cut of top round which looked absolutely gorgeous!
@andrewneedsalawn well that is not as much as i thought it would be. Maybe i got to check some stores :) But maybe in Germany the prices are a little different ;) Cheers
Haha, I remember this dish. I ordered it at a restaurant near the cinema I was going to, and it was HORRIBLE. The chefs clearly didn't know how to make this dish. But wish THIS tutorial, I hope I'll be able to dig it in someday :)
I love beef stroganoff, love it, and this recipe is pretty good. But in my books its not beff stroganoff with out Paprika, lots and lots of paprika. Oh and i also use red wine as i like the sauce to be a little richer!
Let the viewers know that if they decide to use sour cream instead of cream fresh to lower the heat whilst stirring at the end. Yummy. I'm going to use sour cream and it will be delicious. You're the best 25% Russian I know!
I made this dish twice in the last two months and I served it with whole wheat linguine. It was tasty. Next time I make this I'll make it super spicy & with more seasoning for the meat. Great recipe.
Foooood wishes with Chef John! This guy's voice just irritates me to my my spines, and damn he seems so .....pretentious? I guess it's just me. Lay off being sooo full of yourself aaaannndd give everyone a chance to cook. WOW, his voice just comes off like his little pinky is going to fly away!
I prepared your recipe for my sister and brother in-law and it was a HIT!!!! I suggest using more onions and mushrooms(onions melt away)..Next time I will use creme fraiche (home-made of coarse).. Thanx again,Dennis
Hi Sir, My Stroganoff beef is actually cooking right now and it smells awfully good. I think the secret is to absolutely get the bottom of the pan. I taste the mushrooms and oignons and god, this is good. Since I'm on a diet, I'm gonna replace sour cream by Plain Greek yogurt. I already did that a while ago, with vanilla yogurt. It tasted vanilla, I will get it this time! I'm gonna watch more of your videos for sure. I did learn usefull cooking tips there.
It is 12:46 AM... I don't know why I'm watching this before going to bed. Mouth is watering, stomach is growling, and now I can't sleep. Force my self to sleep or make this in the kitchen right now, only to wake people up.... what to do....
"Enjoy!" WTF dude I'm getting my mind raped by all these delicious foods when I don't have them. I get so *insert word equal to "super horny" but referring to food* when I watch chef Johns videos.
While I will make your creme soon, I find that if you microwave the sour cream for 20-30 seconds and then add it to the hot beef and mushroom mixture, it doesn't break. Don't know exactly why this works, but... hey... but that homemade creme sounds georgeous!
Oh and, man, I rarely cook because I simply am hopeless but after watching a good few videos from you, I've managed to master a good few recipes. I even made changes to suit my taste and personalize it a little more too. Thanks for the awesome videos man! :]
@tbonds007 Any quality drinking wine. Depending on where you live, something in the $10-$15 range (that me be useless to you, let me know where you live). The rule of thumb is that it is drinkable (not called 'cooking wine', ironically) but not an expensive wine that would be wasted on cooking.
@ianman6 Thanks for the advice. I ask ed a co-worker who is a wine drinker and she recommended a $5 bottle of wine. I added a lot of beef broth to the wine. This recipe came out great. Thanks again for your help. :-)
@narutoSU8D Actually that is a pile of rubbish, everyone loves my cooking and i'm slim. The weight of the person whether fat or slim is determined by the Pituary Gland in the brain, it's got nothing to do with whether someone is a bad cook or not. There are some bad cooks who are fat! I knew one. Infact someone said i should be a chef, as my cooking is just as good if not better than is served in some restaurants.
I like to brown the meat with less water; on the other hand, your creme fraiche suggestion was perfect.
Incidentally, I went to my butcher for the cut of chuck you requested and he kicked me in the groin and taunted me with, "is that tender enough for ya!!"
It was in front of my wife and children, John.
I'll never take the advice of a great quarter-Russian chef again.
Mushrooms are a unique food with a very distinct taste and texture. Not sure if there is an obvious "substitute" for them. However, you can compensate for the loss of flavor by maybe adding diced celery and carrot. Cheers.
@GretzkyTheWonderDog I don't know how people can stomach mushrooms. They are disgusting. Celery is good but I only eat it by itself, I cant stand it mixed in with other food.
@CainmosniMirrored see you found some fans. enjoy, unsubscribe and no more worries. if you cant appreciate food, then, yes mcdonalds is for you. have a nice life. peace 15 year old

@aamcsween Actually, my taste buds are the exact opposite. They are super sensitive to tastes and that is why I can't stand mushrooms, fish or any kind of seafood. The flavor is too overwhelming and tastes gross to me. You are the one with the dull taste buds. It has nothing to do with eating McDonalds. I hate McDonalds food.
@Hyyra Yes, I'm Russian. In there we serve it with mashed potatoes and the sauce itself is a little bit more browny-buttery. Delicious.

@Allisa4757 using a stainless steel pan will give you more flavor with more of those "brown thing" at the bottom of the pan.

@Allisa4757 why would you use non-stick for this? Someone moves the meat too much in the pan before letting it cook, that's why it sticks!
