Cause they are insecure and don't know what to believe and prefer to believe that we die and thats it but deep down it really bugs them...and they ask themselves.. What if im wrong??..2. The thing that disturbed me the most about Heaven and Hell while I was a Christian was the concept that I might go to Heaven while my atheist mother would be doomed to eternal torment.

I can think of no greater punishment to myself than that.

That begs the question... if there was a God, and you remained a "faithful servant" while your mother remained a heathen, how could God provide you with bliss in the absence of something fundamentally important to your happiness: you mother and her well-being? Would God be forced to change your values? To forget your mother? Would God fool you into thinking your mother was there with you? Would he have to give your mother a free pass to heaven?

I did, and what I found is that the concept of hell in the OT is completely different from the NT interpretation. In the OT hell is referred to as a grave more often than not, and is referred to as a state of being which the living can endure (Psalm 116:3). The OT hell was what you would now consider to be purgatory - a potentially temporary punishment. Tell me that you see hell (or God) depicted similarly in the new and old testaments and I'll point out a disingenuous liar.
