  • Ok, now I really wanna know what this means, any translaters here? Please help.

  • Orig. song is by Christy Azuma is from Zuarungu in Upper East Region of Northern Ghana. It is a folksong of the Frafra people very popular in the late 1970s. The lyrics say," I am gorgeous with a soft smile, and where am I going? I am going to the Balungu's Chief's Palace, when I get there and I am not welcomed, I will proceed to Bongo Chief's Palace and if I am not welcome....I will proceed to so and so it goes. Unfortunately, the bird has stopped singing. Rest in peace Sister Christy.

  • @slowlion01 Thanks for that translation.

  • @slowlion01 hello , you seem to know alot about this artist. is there anyway to get the mp3 for this song. I love it

  • @soursop it's on a compilation called Ghana Soundz Vol. 2: Afrobeat, Funk, & Fusion in 1970's Ghana

  • @edzillion thank you! its on Amazon

  • @soursop Great. Just thought I would add that another compilation on the same label called 'Ghana Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-Sounds and Ghanaian Blue 1968-1981' has another track by Christy Azuma called 'Din Ya Sugri' which is possibly even better than this one. good luck :)

  • @slowlion01 thanx a mil for the translation.

  • NICE! just watched the movie"BAMAKO"

  • It's on now!! I saw it on SBS TV (Australia) about 4-5 months ago and here it is again. I was enthralled by the whole movie the first time and have loved this song every since. I play it over and over and over. The music is rythmical magic and her voice is delicious emotion. I also loved the scene where the goat tries to butt the judge :-))

  • this film was one of the saddest movies i've ever seen, and this particular scene made me cry.

  • I'm with you. What a great film it was, too--one of the most memorable I've seen in the past 10 years, at least.

  • oh yeah, definitely the best part of this movie! :)

  • shes so good

when i watched this film she was like the best part

  • Chaque fois la meme sensation quand j'entends cette voix.... magnifique!!!!

  • i've looked for the translation of these lyrics all night long... simply can't find it!!!!!!

  • belle voix aicha maiga

  • Non c'est la voix de Christy Azuma qu'on entend

  • quel belle voix!! je suis pret de pleurer.

  • The language is known variously as Farefare, Gurenne, Nankanne/Talni/Nabti, etc. and spoken in northeastern Ghana around Bolgatanga where the Uppers were based (Christy Azuma's band).

  • This is not Christy Azuma! It's a Malian (?) actress lip-synching in 2005 to a song recorded in the 1970s in Ghana.

I can't make out much of the lyrics, but it sounds like an appeal to a chief.

  • That's true, I believe her name is Aïssa Maïga...funny though the movie is about accusing the World Bank

  • my cousin, michelle, looks like her

  • you are a lucky cousin :)

  • A lovely, lovely singer!!

  • why is she crying?

  • you've got to see the film: bamako!

  • Bellissimo......

  • magnifique

  • yeah a translation would be killer

  • Anybody care to write up the lyrics? Or, better yet, a translation?
