It's cool you've got a '91 Escort, love my car, put a lot of work into in since November... engine swap, replacing seals and clutch and alternator(today) new back brakes, got my windows tinted, order a sound system and it's enroute... it drives like a dream, but i'm having little problems here and there and it's just starting to get frustrating... hopefully tomorrow will be a good day....
Oh yea, my brakes work fine, it's just the parking brake, the screw is adjusted properly... i just gotta work on the parking brake cable and it's tensioners
@podboq2 yeah brakes will work great as long as there isn't air in the lines, the parking brake just needs those screws in the calipers adjusted, good cables that aren't all rusty, and then it's adjusted all good inside the car and you're good.
anyway good luck getting it all done, if you need more help you can either PM me or comment again, I could do another video as well showing more adjustments.
i'll get some pictures and film tommorrow, I'm going to work on it and see what I can see... among some other things... I'll post back with what I find.
My hanes manual says to use the hidden hex screw to adjust the calipers after replacing brake pads, or getting new calipers, to tighten it up then back it off a 1/3 of a turn... it doesn't say anything about the parking brake there.
The parking brake is a different procedure, when you unhook the cable from the caliper by adjusting the screws on the threaded cylinder that the cable goes through
I guess your suggestion doesn't make sense to me, because I never adjusted the cable inside the car, I disconnected it from the calipers on the rear, and to do so I moved all the fasteners back there so they were loose enough to disengage. I'm gonna work on it tomorrow, and see where I can get... seems like the more I work on it, the more problems crop up... I installed a new alternator today, and now my heater-blower doesn't work! lolol such is life I guess....
@podboq2 hmmmmm, you sure the adjuster screws inside the calipers grabbed? compress the calipers all the way and tighten that allen screw in the back there till the brakes lock then back off till it spins freely again. that's what you did right? if you did that and didn't mess with the cable inside that's odd, but if 1 of those screws didn't catch then the cable would pull, and nothing would happen at the calipers end.
I replaced my rear calipers and pads, and removed that cable shown in your video... to remove it I had to loosen all the nuts on the threaded shaft through which the cable runs, and I haven't been able to find any tutorials on how to re-adjust the cable..... the hex screw inside the caliper is for adjusting the resting position of the piston when you replace the old thin pads with new thick ones... it doesn't adjust the parking brake, so far as I can tell... any ideas ? Anyone?
@podboq2 yessir I know exactly what you need to do, go inside your car and there's a 10mm nut on the driver side of the emergency brake lever down in a little below the rubber guide on the side there, just push that rubber to the side and you'll see the 10mm nut on a long shafted cable, just tighten that down till the ebrake is as tight as desired! don't go too tight or obviously you'll ride the ebrake lol, hope that helps!!
