As a native of Edinburgh, and a teenager in the '60s, I've followed the Corries right from their beginnings as the Corrie Folk Trio and then The Corrie Folk Trio and Paddie Bell and finally The Corries. They were never at any time a political band.
Incidentally, 'The Folker' is a take-off of 'The Boxer' by Simon and Garfunkel.
I heard another version of this song this weekend played by an Irish band, without the joking and messing around, and with a slightly different chorus. Can't find it on YT though, any pointers? Cheers.
@mandolinda6 It's originally written by Paul Simon, and performed by him and Art Garfunkel? At least i think it is. Emmylou Harris even has a nice version of the original tune.
But I really love this one. Keep posting vids like this :D
would be stupid to ignore the parodies songs They are part of the corries' songs and for me, although I am already an all lady, I can't help lauhghing!
Who's the small minded twit that's hung up in the Corries Politics??? They were really great, no matter what they were singing. Why not just give them credit for what they were, political or not. Roy's passed away now and Ronnie is on his own without Roy. I would think you could have a speck of respect for a fallen 'GREAT ENTERTAINER', in his death.
Not sure why anybody would be upset by this song or any of the Corries' comedy stuff. Yes, reading up on them I can see they were important from a social/political standpoint, but why would anyone think they couldn't have/display a sense of humor too? Even the sternest revolutionaries--which the Corries weren't--can laugh and have a good time. Your stalkers and critics need to calm down and enjoy the lighter side of the Corries' music, mandolina--and thank you for posting songs like this one.

I literally LOL'ed during this one--great stuff. I like Simon and Garfunkel, but I've always thought "The Boxer" was one of the most pretentious songs ever recorded. Nice to hear the Corries take it down a few pegs.
I do love the funny songs that the Corries did, I also love the political songs as well. They were a folk band who believed in a better country and who loved entertaining.
Good going, Linda! Just ignore the twats! The Corries were great entertainers, not politicians! Lol! I'm so glad you take the time to post all of these great videos for us! Thanks a million times over, Linda!
Yes, it is a Simon and Garfunkel hit, one of their greats. But the Corries' parody is funny,

Excellent. I learned this song from the late Bill Marischiello about twenty-five years ago, and it's still a hoot an' a half.
