I've played this piece many times over as a learning exercise for an audition & it's beautiful. This and the other pieces of Brahms requiem by the same choir are by far the best quality recordings I've ever heard. Full marks to whoever uploaded them. Beautiful.

I think what makes it unsettling is the way they back off from the quiet sustained notes. It's like the music itself is being held back, as if everything will evaporate as soon as the peaks have died away.
