Hi mate. I have Nvidia GT 520M card on my notebook. I'm not sure you did this on desktop or notebook computer. So, i want to ask you, can i overclock my card, and if i can, what are the risks of overheating and overloading?
on mine it says core bus & memory bus, right now the core bus is at 810 and the mem is at 800, my vid card has a fan on it. and im wondering how much can i turn it up before it gets way to hot?
@dylanh182 just play with the settings... and WATCH YOUR TEMPS!!! If your push your card to much when overclocking, it is common that you will get a blue screen of death or just the flickering of your screen and then Windows telling you that your card has crashed... NOTE: If your card crashes it will reset your overclocking values back to factory and your will have to start over... TIP: Write down your clocks that are successful so you can determine what is best for you!
@lolipopbayi1 oh you don't have a fan on it. :o I would not recommend you to overclock to anything higher than the defults... When you overclock the temps on the gpu rise a bit and sence you don't have a fan to cool it at all I would not recommend overclocking for you... Sorry
@weirdgeeks actually, yes i use only heatsink....and i overcloack gpu until 100mhz, memory 720mhz and processor clock 2000mhz...but the gpu temp never get more than 55degC....i think a large heatsink is better than using a fan...just my thougt...any idea?
@lolipopbayi1 i know your post is old, but i get a stable 1GH too XD it starts crashing at 1025 MHz. i keep it at 950 MHz because of the heat. gets to 95C at 100% load for 10 minnutes and stays there at 1GH but at 950 for some reason it it stays around 85C O.o pretty big difference for 50 MHz! i has a crappy fan and is from ZOTAC.
@RVats007 I have a eMachine t3418 with 2 GB of ram and a and semptron 3400+ processor inside. LOL. The graphics card can get up to 85c with furmark. (Extreme burn enabled). And clock speeds at 2000/1000/900 (very overclocked)
Hey thanks man for this. Games run much better. however im still abit worried. during gaming . (Battlefield 3) is it fine/normal for the temp to be around 63 degree C ?
Hello, thanks for the Description:C:\Users\YOUR USER ACCOUNT\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles after you are there look for the file that you named that has the right settings. Then look for the "STARTUP" folder in the Start menu and copy the profile from the nTune folder and paste it into the Start menu. Thanks :) Nvidia needs to fix there stuff
MY "PROBLEM": If I start my PC, i must ever ckick on YES
@Nozahh No... I wish that we could get a bit more like you said... But keeping it cooler will increase proformance because it will be running at lower temps... Thanks for your comment... BTW it is only a $60.00 card so I guess that it should have been expected... Lol It's the same price as a WiFi router... :)
@Nihadtus C:\Users\YOUR USER ACCOUNT\AppData\Local\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\Profiles after you are there look for the file that you named that has the right settings. Then look for the "STARTUP" folder in the Start menu and copy the profile from the nTune folder and paste it into the Start menu. Thanks :) Nvidia needs to fix there stuff!
@Gamea650 is this safe? :If your don't overclock to much and burn up your card. look around for clock speeds that other people have gotten with the SAME : maker (Nvidia) AND the same distributor... Example: EVGA has different clock speeds than a MSI GT520.
@Trapmaker677 that's awesome!! Thanks for commenting with so much detail, it will help others that want to run skyrim just like you did.. :). Thanks..
Overclocking is a great way to gain about 30 to 40 fps on most games, but it can be dangerous. You should never overclock to high... You can Google your Card maker and the type of card (MAKER, Geforce Gt 520 2GB Overclock speeds) and you should find the right clock speeds (MHz) for your manufacture.. Thanks for commenting!!
Yes! it can run skyrim, but it might not be at a enjoyable frame rate. Also it might have to have settings turned way down.. The Gt 520 is a great video card for the money (about $57.99) but isn't although to run some games smoothly. Do a Google search for "Graphic cards that can run Skyrim".. Thanks for your comment!
@weirdgeeks actually, i just tested it and it can run skyrim with at least 33 fps in a custom setting: high texture and radical blur, medium shadows and decal, antialiasing off, and anisotrophic filtering off at a low-ish resolution... still looks great and plays smoother than it used to :D
@asd4pasd It wont get hot at all if it is idling (standby). But download Gpu-z to watch your idling temps. (because your case might not have good ventilation) If it is running at around 50 or 60 C then you should clean out the dust from your case and make sure that your computer isn't in a closes area.. If you are still experiencing temps like that then you should underclock a bit.
@Frozedful uninstall the software that the profromance manger added and install MSI Afterburner!!!!! it is so much better then nvidia's control panel...
@mrgeo20 It sounds like you might have installed something else the same day that you installed the performance manager.. There has not ever been a reported problem with it crashing your computer...
@weirdgeeks turns out the hard drive on my computer was failing due to rough shipping so I sent the pc back to newegg. new build on the way ^_^ radeon 6770 ftw
Well, this is odd. You and I BOTH have the same GPU, however, when I go to overclock my memory, it wont let me overclock it past 639MHz. My graphics and processor clocks are set to 1,000 and 2,000. The graphics and processor clocks don't give me any trouble, but when I crank my memory clock past 545, I start seeing black dots and my computer freezes up, any explanation as to why that is? Also, my gt 520 has 2gb's of VRAM.
@MrCasualtoker1 It depends on the manufacturer of the card as different manufacturers will have different settings on their cards and slightly different presets such as voltage controls etc.
@markhenricksarmiento if you overclock to any number it will shorten the life. Same goes with any overclock to any piece of hardware. But remember to keep it cool (fans).
@rami563 Yes ther is a way you have to locate the file where you saved the profile and then copy that file into the "startup" folder in the start menu. I guess that its a bug in the program, but I guess that its worth it, to get the most out of your money. :)

@markhenricksarmiento Well, If you over Clock it to much then yes... I would stick with 2000 for the Processor clock, 800 for the Memory Clock, and 1000 for the Graphics processor clock. I just tryieed 2300 for the processor clock and my computer freaked out lol... SO nothing over 2000 for the processor clock and 800 for the memory clock. :) thanks Subscribe :D
