Rabbits are vary lean so a steady diet of rabbit meat without eating fat will lead to protein poisoning Im not sure if this true but I heard if you eat the braines it will provide you with enough fat to prevent protein poisoning. I don't think I would try it unless I was in a survival situation and showing signs of it.

@ruger111dog the fix to that would be to eat clean like vegetarian and or throw in some fish such as salmon for the highly rich and health fish fats.

It’s not that there is too much protein but that there is not enough fat. Surviving out in the cold burns a whole lot of calories and the body needs the quick easily absorbable energy that comes from fat and carbohydrates. In the wild winters of Alaska you will be hard pressed to find carbohydrates but you can find fat in the form of fish. Rabbits are lean muscular little critters that provide little in the form of fat.

@rubbersole79 It makes sense that if you are ONLY eating rabbits there is not enough nutrition in them alone to survive. You need other sources of nutirents as well.

@claypunk Correct. This is what is commonly called "rabbit fever" and it's death from malnutrition. Rabbits lack the fat that is needed for you to survive long term.

@rubbersole79 they have very little fat and mostly protein so if you eat only rabbit for a few months then yes, you will give yourself protein poisoning. There is also the fact that your body needs vitamins and minerals...

@fpstina I don't agree w/permits I'm just saying I would hate to get 10kfine or prison for not having it. My buddy lives what would be considered the boonies in MO and he shot a deer on side of his buddys house 1hr before daylight 1 day of season, biggest buck he ever shot so he bragged about it and someone told someone and next thing he knew the gamewarden charged him w/crime and was going to use someone for witness. He's paying payments on 10k fine and not allowed to hunt agian ever in America
