wow , she has a diff edition than what many of us grew up with. The double sound in sections ,her pauses so much here is singular but I would like to hear her other performances of this.Remarkable ,she thought deeply into this work.Dramatic and the recitative statements are worth much rehearing! What a personality she must have been .Tureck seems to have been pretty grand in person too!
Turek's harpsichord teacher was Gavin Williamson, one of the most successful pupils of Landowska's, along with his partner Frank Manuel. I frequented their studio in Chicago in the late 1960's and was often treated to recitals on the two Pleyel pedal harpsichords given them by Landowska. Gavin had many stories of her in her prime! An incomparable artist and personality!
My good friend recommended to me to listen to this ingenious Woman. I am so thrilled I came across this brilliant Harpsichordist and Pianist. I am devoured listener of Glen Gould, now hearing Wanda Landowska for the first time in my life, I am putting this Genius among with Glen Gould. Wanda I will be looking for all your available recordings. Who every posted this thank you and God Bless you for sharing this with the rest of the world. Cheers.
@MusicPredominates Ahh Thank you for corrections, English is my second language and even thou I lived in US for last 27 years and have done higher education thou not in English I still make goofy mistakes. Cheers.
I've been hoping Landowska's CF&F would show up here at YT. Thank you for posting this.
I am curious to know, however, if this is the performance released by Angel c.1960 along with the Italian Concerto, as one the "Great Recordings of the Century?"
I hear little glitches here that I don't remember noticing in that historic recording. Perhaps this is the performance she gave at The Frick Collection at age 73?
This is wonderfully expressive but not as commanding as I remembered it.
Thats a good question, I too feel like I've heard a better recording of this - and there are a few flaws in this recording that I've never noticed before.
I neglected to write what a wonderful recording it was none the less of a few flaws here and there ! Thanks for sharing, always great to see new Landowksa music on youtube !
Glad someone else noticed. I once possessed the Angel recording I mentioned, and I am POSITIVE it was a smoother, more commanding performance. If anything I've grown far MORE tolerant of error than I was decades ago. You are right in saying that this is very expressive and interiguing performance even with the unevenness and occasional signs of weakness here and there.
There never was a more powerful musical imagination than Landowska's. Like Cortot she was a true ORIGINAL.
Whenever I play this wonderful interpretation, it ends prematurely. The last notes are missing....it cuts off abruptly.

@ObeeLektro : If you were a DEVOURED listener of Glen Gould you would be dead !

@MusicPredominates Okay!? I am not sure what your point is, but I have no problem dying while listening to a Genius.

@ObeeLektro : You used the word ¨devoured¨ instead of ¨devoted¨ in your comment : ¨My good friend ... .¨

Indeed this is a live concert recording from the 1950s, not the HMV studio recording from the 1930s.
