Kudos to Bernard for winning a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder (the correct name for the Eclipse convertibles), but that was during the time that Mitsubishi was having a financial problem, which led to their sales declining, also leading to the current situation of the Eclipse being discontinued.
Bernard Holloway was the 2nd of 3 Teen Tournament Champions who have won $50,000 plus a randomly selected prize car (a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Convertible). The 1st one was Graham Gilmer in 2001 (a Chevrolet Tracker) and the 3rd and last one was John Zhang in 2003 (a silver 2003 Volkswagen
Beetle). The rest about Bernard is seen in a comment by Premonition45.
omg, i was dying when they didn't know it was Lord of the Flies!!! beelzbab is like another name meaning the devil and in hebrew, baal zvoov means lord of the flies. the connection between the title of the novel and the devil is the the theme of the novel: human nature. i'm sure if you've read it, you'd get what i mean.
Goodness, I am non-American (Japanese) but even I knew the answer to that final jeopardy question... unfortunately, this is a question in which you either know the answer or you don't... very hard to make a educated guess
HOLY SHIT! i just watched this video to get away from writing a paper on Lord of the Flies. i can't believe how low my jaw dropped when i saw the word 'beelzebub' holy crap. this is the strangest thing that as ever happened to me! i swear, that book is following me!
This brings back so many memories...I loved everything on the set, and I was really surprised for the Final Jeopardy answer to be Lord of the Flies. Thank you for uploading this.
Beelzebub is obviously something to do with flies. Although the transliteration was horrible. As a native herbew speaker Be'elziboob would be much better. ziboob means fly, be'el means God or Lord which is from the root El. So technically the answer is Lord Fly. Then the book is names Lord of the Flies.
beezlebub is one of the nicknames for the devil. the queen sog bohemian rhapsody makes mention of it in the lyrics, and its the direct translation, not flies...
HA I can't believe I knew that final jeopardy, I also knew a lot of the other questions. That usually doesn't happen when I watch jeopardy. Still though I could never have beat those kids
Because of his win, Bernard was invited to the Ultimate Tournament of Champions in 2005. Unfortunately, both he and Billy Baxter (the 1992 College Tournament winner) had negative scores after Double Jeopardy!, leaving 5-time champion Jeff Richmond in a single-player Final Jeopardy!
I'm bigoted? What if a non-Christian went on the show? That just reduced his margin of victory by $2,000. He's quoting text only a Christian would know. So if you don't believe in an imaginary, transcendent being, you just lost the initiative. Yeah, it's hard for me to see any bigotry in myself if all I want is simply fairness.
Only a Christian would know? Seriously? In Jeopardy, people study EVERYTHING for that show. He's just as likely to ask a question regarding something from the Koran. Its their job to know as much as possible. Aside from that, there are these little things called, POP CULTURE, I've never read the Bible or gone to Sunday school and I knew the answer to that question.
Somehow, I doubt that Quran would be allowed. This is just simple, Christian self-assertion. The fact neither of us read the Bible and still knew does not detract from the fact that they cited dogma. We only heard one question so don't assume it's going to be as easy as "wine" each time. Please, stop embarrassing yourself. Take your God and shove him.
Take my God and shove him? How do you know I'm even a religious person? You do realize that being THIS intolerant of someone's beliefs is exactly what you're arguing against. What a hypocrite.
Because only religious people bitch about an imaginary being that does not exist. Your belief is just a belief. Nothing worthwhile. And the fact you want it imposed on a secular society makes you intolerant too. So you, as an intolerant person, are calling me intolerant. Now that's hypocrisy.
First off, I never said I was a member of ANY religion, just goes to see how hate filled YOU are.
Second, I'm not imposing MY beliefs on anyone, YOU are. That makes YOU the hypocrite. Having Bible trivia on Jeopardy is no more "terrible" than having a Lord of the Rings question on there. Oh wait, Morgoth, well I guess you'd approve of that one.
Your belief that it a God DOESN'T exist is just that, a belief, that you can't prove.
Grouping you into religion isn't hateful. It's a logical assumption seeing as how you're defending it like it's your own dick.
Biblical trivia is religious. Tolkien trivia is literature. But I think it's only fair if it's just one question. Having a whole category dedicated to a subject so narrow.
By logical means, if something exists, you can prove it with substantiating evidence, something I have yet to see you religious loons do.
Calling the Bible "narrow" just because you have a vendetta against religion is stupid. Lord of the Rings is the second best selling book of all time, second to the Bible. So I can easily say that there's a better chance for someone to answer a religious question, than a bit of trivia about Tolkien's work. Both are books. Stop being a prick.
don't assume that all people that believe in darwinism are atheists, i personally do and am not an atheist, don't brand people for their beliefs, you can't deny evolution
@wowplayer526 no one can deny the evolution, its obvious that things change and adapt. humans have changed skin color to adapt to their surroundings, but it is very easy to deny that i came from an ape.
A quick search in the J! Archive shows that the Bible has always been one of the categories Jeopardy! has frequently used for game boards, despite writing staff changes over....25 years now, alongside U.S. Presidents. And I seriously doubt that a show created by Merv Griffin (who was outed as gay when he died), later sold to Coca-Cola, then resold to Sony Pictures Entertainment and distributed by CBS qualifies as "religious fanatics." Many non-Christians have gone on and done just fine....
i dont remember much but its about bunch of kids get trapped on an island and one of them had a vision of a pig like monster thats the Lord of the Flies... im not sure if i remembered right...
Beelzebub is actually a mistranslation of the two Hebrew words ba'al and zvoov. Ba'al meaning husband or lord and zvoov meaning fly. Flies plural is zvooveem. This question was written by a mouth breathing hillbilly. These contestants have grounds for complaint since beelzebub is not a Hebrew word.
That was a giveaway because Lord of the Flies is an epic classic. I'd be thoroughly surprised if someone hasn't heard or read it yet. It was required for our curriculum for my sophomore year of high school.
The concept for the TV series 'Lost' (great show!) is based on Lord of the Flies. Read the summary of the book online if you don't know what it is. Better yet, read the book!! :) :) It's one of my favorites of all time.
I think the sci fi novel "Tunnel in the sky" is very similar to Lord of the FLies but even better. It is more realistic and less heavy handed, aside from the dimensional portals and space travel.
he must have been totally stoked on that! that's definitely some birdfeed! a car and 50 grand. He must have been getting all the chicks after that! haha!

Do you still have the full two-day final episode? I'm a J! Archivist and I noticed that the episode is one of the ones that still is not in the Archive for Season 18.

interesting chian. Thanks for the info!
MinisodeNetwork 3 years ago
I think you misunderstood my point.
It was simply that religious idioms are acceptable but scripture is limiting the answer to those of a particular faith.
Asking question about wine is general knowledge. Asking about what God says is Psalms is bias.
Besides, link me a site which shows a correlation of non-Christians doing well with biblical questions. I'd really like to see this site.
