  • As an old,left-wing.ex-vegetarian, I have 2 say that I am extremely proud 2 be born in an age when fella's like this were about, as well as Mary Rand n' Ann Packer !.LONG May their spirit shine on what is left of our National Pride.!!!.But just 2 touch on the british,english,whatever--apologistic, issue !!.I have never apologised 2 any of my Irish , Scottish or Indian friends-of whom ,I have many--.4 a class of ppl (2 which I don't belong) imposing it's will upon another class of ppl !!

    .....

  • checkout nokando face book or go to what a mullet on youtube to here a fab song about donald campbell its really good infact very good..

  • Look,it is always going to be th United Kingdom. Its only in the last ten years or so that idiots have adopted this silly name called Britain. The name Britain is mainly a name identifiying this country by the younger brainwashed society of today !!

  • Look at the name of the pilot of Bluebird-does that really sound English?-British yeah-Scottish definitely-but for petes sake stop describing the UK as England!-it's arrogant and actually racist-Britain is (or was) Great britain because of ALL the different component parts of it-not just one-England would be nothing without it's neighbours.

  • ENGLAND the greatest country in history as for whato 1986 move to france or something ,if you dont love it leave it!!!

  • xxhan, good work mate.

  • Hey Guys, thank-you to the majority who left lovely comments, i really appreciate them. Look at it this way if u dont like it and find something against it or whatever.....well then get lost, i understand that everyone has their own opinions well can some people keep them to themselves. Thank-you 2 every1 else.

  • @xxhan315xx great video for a great man. My uncle was with him the night before the attempt they were great friends, lets not forget this great pioneer and gentleman.

  • Fine tribute to a fine, dedicated man.

    Thank you from Dearborn, Michigan.

  • pretty right-wing song!

  • Explain to me why, exactly, we have to apologise for being proud to be British? "right-wing" you limp, mung-bean-munching drip? Take the hair shirt off and grow a backbone.

I suppose you'd be quick to support the muslim professionals attending a lecture recently given by a friend, who requested she take off the remembrance poppy she was wearing because it offended them. This country is going down the pan because it's now run by hippy apologists like you.

  • hmm, maybe if you are going to be proud of being British, you need also to be ashamed of all the wars and deaths that have been caused by Britain.

I don't care about being PC, as long as my actions don't infringe on the freedoms of others.

Don't judge me if you don't know me.

  • Perhaps you would like to elaborate on your comment, "All the wars & deaths that have been caused by Britain?" People like you with your pathetic doth your cap & apologise to the world for being British attitude make me vomit. This country has given more to the world in terms of technology & invention than any other nation, more so comparatively speaking than even the Romans. Most of the modern infrastrusture you take for granted eg railways, were British inventions. You are feeble!!

  • all i'll say is that if you were born in another country, i'm guessing you would be all like

    "Hey, [insert country] rocks!"

people who take pride in their own work i completely understand, however boasting about your own countries achievements that you personally had no role in, i fail to understand.

don't simply take credit for achievements that other people (who happened to be British) achieved.

  • What are you wittering on about?! Please explain how I am boasting about the achievements of others, whilst at the same time attempting to steal their laurels? Basically, you are talking complete nonsense! Get a grip!

  • Why not judge you? You appear very quick to judge an entire nation IE Britain, based on your ridiculous comment, "You also need to be ashamed of all the wars and deaths that have been caused by Britain." Utter drivel. No wonder this country is FUBAR if we are producing people with an outlook such as yours.

  • well if you want to take credit for all of england's achievements, then you need to also to acknowledge all of the wars and problems that england has caused also. That's fair

  • Perhaps you would like to elaborate on your comment re "all the wars & England has caused." Somehow I dobt you are based in the UK as your profile suggests. British people generally refer to BRITAIN, not England.

  • Believe it or not, I am from the UK, and, believe it or not, my name is actually Donald Campbell.

The Crusades for one were a pretty bad set of ideas for starters.

All countries have had wars, I'm not trying to single england out.

  • The Crusades were NOT an English initiation, it was a European effort, the French played a major role along with others, so you cannot label them as an English war!

  • I'm not going to go through all the various battles and wars England has been a part of, because the discussion will not lead anywhere with you.

Please have a nice life and don't disrespect people based on their own country's heritage...Please!

  • Ah, I see, in other words, you are unable to provide evidence to support your comments, so you are bowing out as opposed to standing your ground.......

  • yeah, that's right, you got me, you are awesome!!!

  • Yeah, thanks for that.........

  • sounds like you have a problem with england !! shame on you!

  • @herringfly Well said. Campbell and people of his ilk would not recognise the Britain of 2010. He was a true Brit hero from a bygone era.

  • One of the many Britains who died doing the things they loved

  • This is a brilliant video tribute to one of the last of the true great British heroes. It's also wonderful, that xxhan315xx has included audio footage of Donald. I became fascinated by Donald Campbell and Bluebird in 2001, when I watched the BBC documentary about the raising of the wreck. I interviewed Bill Smith as part of my Media degree at University. I also have visited Coniston, and visited Donald's grave.

  • That is really something! And that hero really went for it..

  • Campbell most certainly was one of the last old school British heroes, they don't make them like that anymore. Campbell in many ways remains me of Douglas Bader, confident to the point of arrogance, bullish attitude, and fiercely proud to be British. Both Campbell & Bader were men of tremendous courage & spirit. Although some disagree, I believe it was 100% right to raise Bluebird for restoration & Donalds body to have a proper resting place. Campbell & Bader helped put the GREAT in Britain!

  • What can one say about Donald Campbell? Donald Campbell, in his racing gear with his goggles and his dark gloves, and wearing the Union Jack. Poof. Oxford dictionary: poof: as if to disappear into thin air;seemingly.

  • You should change your name to 'RICHARD HEAD,' as in 'DICK' for that innane comment.

  • Halcyion days of the British Empire!Donald Campbell;Biggles flying over the Himalayas;Donald Bradman - you little beauty! A team of Australian searchers called in with razor sharp pitchforks and steel pikes, prodding around in the reeds and lakebanks would have found Donald Campbell, had he been hiding out there.Otherwise, these Australians could have patrolled all nearby hamlets, dive tackling anyone at all who even remotely looked like the elusive Donald Campbell, who's later nabbed in a bikechase.

  • Auch! -But legendary!

  • I dont want to sound too deep but is it better to live your life to the max like Donald Campbell did, and die, making him a legend forever? or is it best to plod on with life hopeing nothing too bad happens to you. Botttom line ...WHAT IS THE POINT OF LIFE.I think i could be a plodder but you never know i could get the urge one day to do somthing great.

  • Sad, poor chap.

  • This is brilliant. I lived in the Lake District for years and knew a lot of people who knew Donald Campbell.I can recall his records and seeing the tragic accident on tv on the day. I was also at his funeral in 2001.

  • I remember as a five year old seeing the crash. Been looking at Donald Campbell sites for last couple of hours, this one brought tears to my eyes! A true British hero, never forgotten.

  • Who's the singer?

  • Cool!

    Best wishes

    Jon at Kimbustion (",)

  • Jon et al. Nice video :-)
