  • i love this song so muchi 1st heard it wen i was 16 im 23 now n it will never get old

  • my baby brother was killed and he was nothing but a child

  • Thanks for uploading...my favorite Christmas song ever...beautiful!!!

  • Beautiful song, Steve.

  • I saw him play The Barrowlands in Glasgow on the tour supporting the Copperhead Road album and it really was one of the most special gigs I'd been to. An amazing atmosphere.

  • I think Maria McKee sings backing vocals on the album version which makes it all the more special. I usually hate christmas songs and all that goes with it but this song melts even my stony heart.

  • Great!

  • Love Steve Earle's music....

  • Nice one loved it from long ago, thanks for posting, merry Christmas.

  • it's songs like this that let you know God exists.

  • I am born and raised in the USA but it took Donnie Munro (Isle of Skye vocalist) to introduce me to this song and Steve Earle, lol. This is such a great Christmas song that doesn't get played enough and no one sings it better than Steve. This and CR are both brilliant. Thanks for preserving this precious clip.

  • for jezx21 -- this is the first time I've heard this song, after doing a search for one of my other favorite artists, Maria McKee. She is the one who sings backup on the CR album. If you're not familiar with her and her earlier work with Lone Justice, you're in for a HUGE treat! Enjoy...

  • Steve Earle is the best, and this is one of the best songs he has ever written! When I got Copperhead Road (on cassette!) in the late 80's, this song became my favorite and it still is today. Thanks for posting!

  • Steve Earle....Nothing but brilliant

  • Probably one of the best & most unknown Christmas songs ever...

  • oh, my gosh, this is incredible....i didn't know this even existed...been a huge Steve Earle fan for years and years, he's been a great inspiration to me, as a recovering addict..he has has 15 yrs clean, i have 2...we grew up about 30 miles from each other in TX, are of the same "vintage," and i've had the joy of seeing him about 8 times over the years...wonderful gift from God and i've always been happy he got another chance at life....God bless Steve Earle...

  • @princessofhesse - Thanks for sharing this video with me. I absolutely love this song. He sings & plays it so beautifully. May God bless us again this Christmas & may we all thank God for the little child that He sent from heaven to be among us to teach & show us what LOVE is. May we all learn & live it. Peace to all.

  • isn't it wonderful and didn't he look adorable then? ha...i will be serious though, bless you, too, and all of you at Christmas and into the new year...we pray that things will be better in the world...take care...

  • From the Copperhead Road album...a girl sings back up vocals on the album with him but not sure who it is....this was a hard one to find but I'm glad I did :)

  • @jezx21 The girl singing backup with him is his very own sister. Makes the song even more special. Awesome.

  • @bottomfeeder73 wow i've been listening to this song for like 20 years and never knew that. thanks for the info :)

  • @jezx21 My pleasure!

  • Hi Joanna, it's Matt here from Scotland. :) I'm glad you liked the video. If you send me a message on Facebook with your address I'll send you some Steve DVDs with this and some other rare footage in the new year. Have a great Christmas.

  • @princessofhesse its off the copperhead road album

  • A beautiful song from a man who's lived a hard life and come out the other side. And while he often sings about his relationship with God (or lack of) in the end there's no question where he stands. His only fear seems to be if he'll live up to God's standard... like every man.

  • Seems to me that Steve summed up his religious views succinctly in "Jerusalem": "Somewhere along the way I strayed, and I never looked back again, but I still find some comfort now and then."

  • "But I still find some comfort now and then." My point exactly. I'm very familiar with Steve's writing and in fact, was referring to this verse in my earlier post-- did you read my mind? BTW, it's nice to find another Steve Earl fan here on YT. I think he's a great singer songwriter and one of the best to ever come out of Texas.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written, especially considering his addictions at the time.

  • Awesome upload! 5+Star's!

    Thanks!

    Very best of wishes!

    GinMillBill

  • Absolutely brilliant.
