Astonishing how Apple in past 10 years have gained momentum in fooling the ignorant masses that its products will make them happier. guys, you are on YouTube right now, why don't you scroll all the way up to the top of this page and type in the search box "Consumerism-Big Ideas That changed the World" a 4-part documentary that fundamentally changed the way i buy things, or more precisely the way I perceive things in life. Unless absolutely necessary, buy the 3rd or 4th generation iPad; next year
Sure it will be cool for those who are locked into the iphone closed system where everything has to go through and pay to Steve Jobs but it not a computer, it is a consumer display for prior published content.
It can't run real programs or is even meant to. So why do they keep saying it makes computer obsolete. Its OS is from iphone and just as limited.
No thanks, i am too busy getting work done with a computer to have time for idly sitting back consuming content passively.
All publicity IS good publicity. Apple knows how to make noise. And everybody talks about them - the news media, the business shows, the comedians, the blogosphere, the nerdosphere.
to drummer: he's referring to down the road, for the next decade. A paradigm shift in HOW we compute. This is the baby...think fourth, fifth generation.
this is for people with a different lifestyle. Grpahic and web designer like myself will contnue to use the usual laptops, pcs and mouse. Just imagine having to use multitouch for vector graphics and flash design. This guy is a moron. Ipad is not even close to the kind of machine that I really need to earn my living. I stick with PCs.
haha better then a laptop wheres the photoshop and final cut. ect. If your lucky it will be a ipod touch killer but I doubt it, because Im buying an Ipod touch haha
@DJTEVAdotCOM : yea and the rest of that goes to packaging, manufacturing, R&D, marketing .... why don't you get $260 of spare parts, build me an iPad, and tell me you'll sell it to me for $260 making $0 profit. Will you?
I try to avoid typing, because it's bad for your wrists.
But there's really no way to avoid it. I'm typing right now to leave a comment. There is no way to type in excellent key words when doing a search than with a keyboard.
Is the iPad the easiest way to type?
I don't think so.
I'm not sure I ever want to PUT my keyboard aside and snooze in an easy chair surfing around the web or around a book. And to be unable to SPEAK.
the ipad is a beautiful to use device, but I'm not buying one because the price is too much and the technology isn't complete enough. I'll only buy one if it's $200-250. I'm very bummed out at how limited the internet experience was. Going on the IMDB on the ipad, it sucked the fun out because the videos couldn't be loaded. This was the experience i and many others at the Apple store had. A lady near me tried going onto a games site, and none of the games loaded. For now, Ipad is a useless toy.
Its about time. Notice Charlie Rose is reading from paper newspaper trash; good for lining cat pans.

@Z35011 It's not meant to replace heavy duty work.
Just general purpose computing like the average person.

If u search google, it only APPLE $260 to build an ipad where the touch screen is the most expensive part of the unit.

The fact that my flat-screen monitor stands up on the table is actually a good thing.

Maybe if I were snoozing in an easy chair or airplane seat . . .
with an iPad suspended in front of me . . .
and a netbook in my lap.
But then how would I be able to copy and paste from one to the other? Copy and paste is a constant activity too.
I don't mind getting rid of the mouse. The mouse is KILLING my wrists.
But I still need an excellent keyboard of some kind. And multitasking. And devices networked together to some extent.

Its a great step, but single application software and a small processor means it will be the next model at least before it replaces the laptop.
