I played a hand against an aggressive player yesterday. I had J5 offsuit and my opponent had K8 offsuit. Flop is AQT. I raise 23 dollars preflop in a $40-300 buyin and already ahead by 320 dollars at this point. Anyways, on the flop my opponent bets 40 dollars and I call. Turn comes a 5, he bets 95 dollars and I call. River is a 6, he bets 150 dollars. He let me pick a card to see. I picked and saw the King. Figured he had nuts or nothing so I call and win a monster pot! Woohoo!

Lederers Fold is not to bad... if he thinks Laak has an overpair, AK, or AQ and follows up betting on turn and river it cost him about 100k to win the 20k that are in there, he doesnt want to keep playing the guessing game, another point is that he rarely can improve, board will get worse and worse for him..

And the mistake laak made is, tha his value betting range with an 80k bet on the river is such soooo small, i doubt he would fire 80k with aces, maybe something like 60k.

He should have raised, if he gets called he should continue it on the turn, and 80% of the time Laak would fold it atleast on the turn. If someone would 3bet on the turn, he would have easy desicion : throw his hand away.

Except he has position on him. Lederer can't fold there or he is making a huge mistake even calling preflop. If all he is doing is set mining, he might as well just fold preflop.

You have to have some game to play with these guys. Playing uber tight and throwing away overpairs in position simply because you don't know what the other guy has is terribad. So is raising for information, but folding is even worse than that.

It's a fold because there are not many good turn cards for 88 and if you decide to call on the flop you have to call turn and river bets also. Basically continuing with 88 will put you in tough spots very often
