This is terrible, how was he famous, and people complain about people getting famous in the 21st century despite their lack of talent, you people should be ashamed. Good show man, terrible musician.
@MartyFriedmanRulez66 I surely hope you are not judging Steve on the basis of this one solo. A little respect for what comes before please. Music changes for sure, the Yes band is one of the rare bands that actually created music that is recognized as compositions! Steve Howe is a master of the guitar whether you like the music or not, even your modern day guitarists today would recognize this.
@InScienceITrust No I'm judging him on his work with Yes, Asia (By the way, Guthrie Govan is FAR superior to him in my opinion) and GTR it's foolish how people hold him on such a high pedastall, he is no more impressive then any of the other classic rock guitar players that over use pentatonics or make stupid faces, Howe doesn't really use the pentatonic in this solo (good for him) but my opinion still stands, I respect them but their time is done.
@MartyFriedmanRulez66 Everytime you post you confirm your stupidity and complete ignorance of music, musicianship and the guitar. Some day you will realize this and shut your mouth, or perhaps you enjoy making yourself look like a fool. Fools do attract a lot of attention to themselves.
@MartyFriedmanRulez66 Philistines, you rally should check out stuff like the clap and the gates of delirium before you label one of the greatest musicians to have ever graced our planet, an "terrible", Do you have any understanding of just how hood Steve Howe actually is, tell you what I'd like to see you play this.
Steve Howe was a great guitarist in his young days, though a bit self indulgent... Go listen to him live with Yes now, you'll be blown away!!!! And I mean it!
always mindful "sir" john bull...the greatest rock guitarist, musician , songwriter and performer for all eternity was an american, made in the u.s.a. JIMI baby !!
all you wankers out there ..take note this a solo with unique style and expression...shred was on life support upon arrival and is truly dead..till the maalmsteen's, morse's (somewhat, gotta stick up for the hometown boy), lynch's, satriani's and all the rest of 'em learn about melody and pace. see jeff beck.are you listening EVH ? american's invented rock guitar, but the english do it right.
i agree sorry about my name it because this contradicts it but i used to play all that malmsteen vai and van halen stuff till i saw real musicians like steve howe and david gilmour playing and they totally changed my approach to playing also slash is good and he was also born in england and now instead of just seeing how many notes a second i can play ive learned to slow down and think about what im doing and belive it or not im english just all my m8s were into shredding
@LanceHelmut You are so misguided it's funny, You do know that playing fast and having a sense of melody are not completely different things, in fact most "shredders" as they have been rudely deemed have a stronger sense of melody then this foolish git. He's making these foolish faces, and doing the most rediculously bad vibrato and you baffoons are lapping it up like mothers milk. I respect the classics but their time is gone the new age of guitarists far surpass this bullocks
What the hell is up with you folks? This is a guitarist doing his thing...improvising a solo! Not tracing over his own studio version of the lead in this song. Musician are allowed and should be encouraged to experiment! Steve Howe I am sure has the respect of Vai, Satch, or any of the more modern players. Also using a guitar with a little reverb and some over drive and a pure amp sound....I dont hear that enough now days. I love the solo.
Steve Howe is one of the most versatile and complete guitar players in the rock scene. You can like it or not, but he is able to play many musical styles reasonable good. To compare him you should bring to comparison people as Hackett or Morse. The only defect of Howe is his voice singing, but as a MUSICIAN, I mean, composer and performer is far so far from most of the guitar players of his era and modern ones.
@Yesshows01 he fails to hit the notes man,and that happens all the time.I am not talking about shredding and stuff, just about basic procedures. And don't tell me he is doing that on purpose! If you admire him,ok,but he misses it,every now and then! Not his job,in my opinion.
@skata666nai He probably fingerbanged yer mom when you were a fetus and gave you brain damage- This is why you listen to stupid angry modern music- The shredding comforts you because it comes close to the blistering fury of Steven Howes fingers caressing your mothers nethers while slamming down on your soft skull. So yeah, Steve Howe is a badass, and you suck : ) Go listen to Jimmy Page ( now THERES a sloppy faggot.)
@led96zeppelin-don't know if anyone answered your question, but this is an extended solo section in the song Yours is No Disgrace. And that detail shouldn't be lost on a lot of the commentators, as the song is about the Vietnam war, specifically the GIs in the war, and may bear on the choices he's making. He's changed the solo considerably in recent years. And-the next time I hear/read someone complain of their 'self-indulgence' for playing music, I'm gonna f*#@$in scream. Enough already.
@SHRUDE Everything is guitar just because someone starts playing 32nd notes doesn't automatically make them souless "shredders" and shredding has been around a lot longer then the 90's man and there are lot's of better guitar players then Howe that came out of the nineties, that being said he's still great, I'm just sick of all the classic rock buffs out there saying "oh yeah no one can touch Jimi, or Page, or Blackmore, or Howe, or Hackett" bullshit just cuz they are old as fuck doesn't make
@MartyFriedmanRulez66 Perhaps. But a list of the best Guitarists of all time would contain far more from the 60's and 70's than it would from the 80's - 90's and 00's.
@SHRUDE I disagree, a lot of underground guitar players are underrated, a great guitarist should not be judged solely on his lead work, Thomas Erak of The Fall Of Troy is a fantastic guitar player, his solos aren't the greatest but his riffs are amazing, Many Nu-metal guitar players are simply astounding with their fret work technical knowledge and feel in their riffs, I find there are more overrated guitar players from the 60's and 70's then there is in the 80's 90's and 00's all we have are
Actually this pretty much a load of doodling rubbish thats played rather badly and has no real melody or connection.
There are literally hundreds of players that are soo much better than this.... Greg Howe, Becker, Vai, Gilbert, Loomis from the newer era...then Beck and Hendrix from his era...they absolutely kill Steve Howe...and not just technically, although he struggles to put a meaningful phrase together.
@jkovert doesn't make them the greatest, I like all music (cept country) and I listen to all music all day and night it's my life, and I fully believe guitarists/composers like Becker, Morello, Frusciante, Poland, Tremonti, Howe(the black one) Vai, and COUNTLESS others are superior,
This is terrible, how was he famous, and people complain about people getting famous in the 21st century despite their lack of talent, you people should be ashamed. Good show man, terrible musician.
