When I was a kid, I once dropped a cheap walkie-talkie and the plastic casing broke apart. The electronics inside must've gotten jarred just right, because touching the exposed circuitry created amazing squeals and noises much like your sound kit. I thought it was the coolest accident ever, and still do.

the reason why the metal contacts are pressure sensitive is because when you press down, the metal contacts reach down further into your skin, and the further you go the more moist it is, lowering the resistance. this also works really well if your hands are sweaty

It works by using your fingers as a resistor. All those contact points are put in parallel and by touching them you change the current going to the speaker, modulating the sound. At least that's what I think it does.

They appear to be pressure sensitive because the harder you push down, the more surface area contact there is with you finger. That effects the resistsance.

You obviously have no knowledge of circuit bending. What's "completely useless" to you is actually making other people a living. People like me who do experimental music will often look for unique synthesizers and the people who build what I buy have to start somewhere, and it's beginner's kits like this that help. Afterward you may circuit something bigger that someone may find really cool, and use in a big band of their's. Musical artists far and wide use things like this daily to be unique.
