@SpReAdThEpEaCePpLz Actually, these gorillas have a very large outdoor yard, as well as other indoor holding areas. I do understand how it may look, but this is just a very small view of the area they have access to, and they are free to move where they want. Sometimes they just like to be cozy in a smaller space...especially when interacting with an infant.
@ivanaman And you're basing that nasty comment on a single video of a father and son having an intimate moment in an off exhibit area where they feel comfortable enough to engage in this kind of wonderful, natural behaviour? I appreciate your concern, but these apes have the largest outdoor exibits of just about any zoo in this country. If you had bothered to ask I would have been happy to tell you about their accomodations. Please know what you're talking about before making nasty comments.
Brockpfeif, thanks for catching me up with an old friend. I keep hearing that he's his father's son, but it's always nice to be able to see with your own eyes. Blow him a kiss for me next time you see him, would you?
Sorry it took me so long to respond! Thank you so much for your kind comments. Fossey is an extraordinary guy and such a wonderful dad. He absolutely learned that from Bongo! And thanks for your comments about indoor holding...most people don't understand that. Mosi is 2 1/2 now and loves to play with his dad outside! If you would like more info or pics please contact me.
adequately to protect them individually or as species. Also, you need to make distinctions between the "old" style of zoo (cement blocks and bars) and current management, with large family troops and varied outdoor environments. Many zoos still have "bedrooms" like these either off exhibit or where they can be observed, but Fossey and his troop don't live their lives in them. Video of you playing with your toddler at nap time probably doesn't look that exciting either. (con)
then reached up and gently caressed Bridgette's face. He was an incredibly gentle and hands-on dad from the beginning. Fossey was named for Diane Fossey (obviously) who described Bongo (truly the Cary Grant of gorillas) as the most handsome gorilla she'd seen in captivity or the wild. It's no surprise that Fossey has grown up to be such a remarkable young man and father. When discussing gorillas in zoos, however, first you need to recognize that we are so far unable to preserve their habitat
Fossey is an incredibly special gorilla who was raised by his magnificent father Bongo after his mother Bridgette died before his first birthday. Fossey was a late-in-life baby for Bongo who had not had the opportunity to raise his first three off-spring Emmy, Oscar and Toni, and he was fascinated by Fossey from the moment he was born. When Bridgette delivered Fossey, Bongo watched quietly and, as soon as she picked up the baby, knuckle walked over to her, very gently touched the baby and(con)
Yes, they are still at the zoo...Mosi has grown alot..he's 1 1/2 now. When it's above 50 they're out in their large outdoor yard. You definitely need to come out and see them! He still loves playing with his dad and other members of the family!
when i see Gorillas it make me wanna go live with em cause thay like ppl every 1 should just leave the citys n go live in the forests n stuff n just set every thing back a cupple of thousand years u get what im sayin
I appreciate your comment and agree in that I wish all great apes could live freely. Unfortunatly that's not possible because of our decimation of their habitat and their populations. I assure you Fossey and his family are well taken care of and are quite happy. I hope to post video soon of them in their outdoor yard. Thanks again..
Wanna know what's sad to see? Gorilla babies next to their skinned and sliced parents. Atleast these guys won't ever run into any poachers in their lives. Feel sorry for the wild gorilla and what humans do to them.
I Just Wish They Could Build Bigger Living Spaces For These Animals Instead of Keeping Them Cramped Up =/

Sounds like Fossy is listening to the "Game" while playing with Mosi. All Fossy needs is a beer in his other hand LOL

I love seeing gorillas in zoos because they are fun to watch, but I always feel sad because they look so depressed.

So disheartening...the silverback looks pretty content, but nowhere near as much so as gorillas i've seen in the wild in videos.
