I really like it, you can tell they are a nice family & the space is AMAZING! I shared a room with my brother until I was 16 & he was 21, we could have afforded a bigger place but why? when we would have had to sacrifice a great location. It's not about the space but the people that live in it. In my opinion there are only two reasons you would need your own room either you hate the people you live with or you masturbate a lot. Most of the neg. comments seem so narrow minded to me.
wow, i think she did an amazing job on their apt. and the fact that they have that great terrace space. Seals the deal....Also, Its love and affection that kids need not an abundance of space. Great job!
Comments like "When you keep getting pregnant..." and "If you stop having kids..." make me wonder if the commenters watched the same video I did. One kid and a baby on the way don't make them the Brady Bunch, even in this tiny apartment.
@ssips720 The pulldown table is from Ikea.. and actually I think all the tables are from Ikea. But of course they've customized a bit. She recently painted an elephant face on the pulldown table with the leg they added on (so the leg is the trunk).. makes sense since it is now in the kids' bedroom. (See updated video in video responses where she shows this).
Whenever I think my bedroom is too tiny (and it IS small) or my house is old and old fashioned, I watch this and I'm grateful. Not to say that I don't like her house, but it's a little too compact for me.
I grew up in San Francisco where the rents are outrageous and the buildings tiny. I knew many people who had families in places this size. The children were all very happy and had good lives. Expansive space is nice, but it is certainly not necessary. Eventually, Americans will need to learn this.
She has the right idea. Most people in Europe find this normal. It's the ones that can't live unless they can roller skate around their apartments that have it backwards.
honestly as big as her " living room soon to be kids room" is? they could put up temporary walls and make smaller bedrooms for each of the kids. get the right loft beds in there and the kids would have plenty of space. i think it's awesome and ingenious. her kids seem healthy and happy. so no worries! i love her terrace. that's really nice. the kitchen however would make me cranky as hell. i prefer an eat in kitchen and no, hers really is not big enough for that. CHEERS!
@vectravl growing up in a small space either they'll adapt and have minimal material belongings, or they'll learn ways to organize what they do have with the space they have.
I think Marta is wonderful. I'm sure her children will grow up happy, and not be greedy wanting more and more. If more people lived like this, and were happy and not feeling deprived, but fortunate to have the basics, the world would be so much better off...keep up the good example you're setting for your children Marta, and also those of us watching your videos!! Joanne
I think if we all lived in smaller spaces; first of all apartments would not be so expensive. Second of all there would be no homeless. Either the family is poor, middle class of just really responisible for not taking up too much space. Whatever the case is I really admire the familys efforts to minimize space and not have too many things. We are often taught overconsumption in america. I am learning a lesson myself from this. I am not going to complain if I have to go to a smaller place.
@angiechelcyjade I think the kids are really happy. Marta is my neighbor and her son loves his setup. Now they've moved the kids to the living room area and built a living room upstairs so it's not quite the same as it was in this video, but they're still happy and my daughter loves visiting their space. I will shoot another video with them at some point to show how things look today.
@angiechelcyjade I'm sorry that was an unhappy memory for you. These kids, on the other hand, seem totally happy with their house. @ 3:50 "My house is so cool". I don't see any need to feel sorry for them.
@angiechelcyjade this is normal for a Portuguese house, I grew up in one like this (not quite as nice :<) and many of my friends with sisters did too, aparently it's normal in Spain as well
Nice home, great furniture & great ideas. You're a good house-keeer too! I love your attitude to get rid of stuff instead of dreaming for more space! Just give away some of the dishes & pots but buy more art and craft supplies instead! I see dozens of more places where U could put up shelves or hang some closed wall cabinets; like around the television; & above & along side of your bed. Squeeze one more shelf above your computer printer & above your child's bed where the hanging mobile is.
You have some great ideas on how to use up space in a small house! I think I shall have to copy what you do. The fold down table is an excellent idea. I am thinking of doing somethin like that with a bed.
