You may have got it worked out by now !But I would first readjust your airscrew to factory setting then adjust it to find high idle then bring the idle down again Do this after its been running about 10 min and is fully warmed up!I hope you get it figured out Them are great bikes.
hi man can you help me i have 93 rm250 got it last night it wont idil at all and clutch just want out it has race piston pipe custom plastic but it runs like a bat out hell starts up 1 to 2 kicks cold
Cheers buddy, It does run hot as fuck by the way! I've got a Husky with a YZ engine fitted and it doesn't put out anything like the heat this thing does. Got a new impeller for it which I'll be fitting along with the leaner jets at the weekend. Should get back out on both bikes the following weekend all things going well, will post another vid when we get on the track.
Yep, I think you're bang on with the jet theory. It's running a 172 main, 50 slow, and the needle clip's on the middle rung at present but I think it's way rich in the pilot circuit. I've ordered a 160 and a 165 main jets and a 40 and a 45 pilot, will chop test until I get it spot on. Currently running 150ml in 5 litres fuel (keeping it oily for the first couple of tanks after the re-build). You're right about the explosive power by the way...!
Some are and some aren't, most modern 2-stroke crossers idle but you're right, some of the very old ones weren't designed to. Mikuni TMX carbs and keihin PWK's can idle clean no problem, but the RM has a keihin PJ which is a little more challenging.
Dude iv got a 2005 KX250.....and it really didnt like to idle........so i turned the idle off. The "run-down" is much better too now, as its not ingesting idle-fuel anymore, which means it doesnt have to clean itself out when i re-open the throttle. It makes for much crispier engine response. Why do u think Racers turn idle off.

@marek0086 my 89 kx250 runs way cleaner that our 94 rm250 .the rm fouls plugs sometimes and the with the kx 1 plug has been fould in my year of owning it
sounds like the jetting is too lean, theres almost no smoke coming out of the pipe, the idle hangs then dies and it runs too hot... all symptoms of being to lean.
hi banfordg i have a 92 RM 250 what other parts from other years will fit on it? thanks mate

Hey Jay, hows the 2000 re-build holding out?
Yep, sorted this one out a while back. It was way lean on the pilot (this is the 94RM by the way..). Thanks for the input.
Perfect jetting is a black art sometimes ;o)..
94 RM250

Will do mate. Incidentally, how quick does your bike heat up and how hot does it run?
banfordg 4 years ago
Will check the float height when I'm dialing in the jets, should be 16mm I think...
Cheers.

@cat123456789101~ they run "cleaner" when u turn your idle off. Thats why racers turns theirs off.
