Hey am going for my first car

Insurance is not really a problem

I can either get tr vauxhall Astra 1.6 SRi or golf but basically the golf is £500 more but it's a diseal 1.6 I think

Which one do you think is better?

Ignore insurance prices only look at car prices please

Just brought a 2010 1.6 lovely to drive and handles really well only down fall is . I should have had the turbo model because it struggles to pull up the steep hill I love on .But I can live with that. The red ambient lighting looks amazing and tons of boot space overall I am well pleased with it

Can never understand why people talk up the Golf so much. Having driven two different versions for a few months each, all I can say is "meh".

Incredibly dull styling, numb steering and cheap sounding, thrashy engines. Switchgear wasn't much to shout about, either.

Apart from the Lotus Carlton, Omega and Senator, old Vauxhalls from the 1990's were very unlikeable cars. The original Vectra was arguably one of the worst cars of 1990's. It only with 2004 Astra onwards that Vauxhall got their act together and started making likeable cars.

Looks like Vauxhall have stolen designs fron Seat & Renault and merged the two to create what we have here, a Vauxhall Astra. The previous model had a great shape throughout the range. The only problem it has is a cheap tack sterio.

You're not alone westrack44! Since General Motors Brazil disconnected from Opel,we have gotten some really weird cars based on Daewoo as well,but with big truck fronts.I wish GMB got back to get along with Opel,they do the best cars in the entire GM group!

I can see the design vauxhall were going for here nick seats boot and then nick other elements of VW cars, But saying that I would have it.. The interior as improved alot as i have had the 3 other generations of Astra and this one the cabin feels and you like quailty

Yeah. The comparison is amazing. Cars is getting better, better and better. And looks even sexier! Have you seen that new VW Polo. Compare it with old Polos. The new one looks bigger and eye candy, lol.

Sorry I havn't replied for so long. I've seen a picture of what the 3 door Astra might look like on Auto Express. It might be called the Calibra rather than Astra coupe. It looks stunning! Search "Astras New Family" on Google. Should be the first link.

You call this a review? Most of the "review" is about how the car looks and at the end opinions given by people - again - about looks. Give us a proper review, what about handling, ride quality, comparison to other cars in it's class, anything?

something strange about it's exterior. I'm not sure what. Some angles I see a little previous gen Mazda3 and maybe a tad Honda Civic in the front. The rear hatch really reminds me a lot of the hatch on a Nissan Rogue SUV. Definitely better than the last gen Astra. You can tell it's trying to be a Golf... but it comes across as "trying". Not sure it's in the same league. I need to see a more thorough review first.
