For those fans that aren't familiar with the early jazz recordings , I recommend they Google the Red Hot Jazz Archive, which is a superb collection of jazz from 1895 - 1930. If they like this Jimmy O'Bryant tune they will find 14 tunes recorded in 1924/25with Jimmy Blythe (piano) ,Jasper Taylor (washboard) and of course Jimmy on clarinet. Hope you find them OK.
That is why I put the recording on here. I figured most hadn't heard of Jimmy O'Bryant and I wanted people to hear him. There is a good cd on him called appropriately "Mystery Man of Jazz"
O'Bryant could really wail on that clarinet. He combined hokum style and regular playing and he could sound very close to Johnny Dodds. The washboard stop time solo by Jasper Taylor embodies the rhythmic excitement of 20's jazz. Glad you liked this recording and hopefully more will hear it and bring some appreciation to a sadly forgotten 1920's musician- O'Bryant.
Don't forget that this recording also includes Jimmy Blythe on piano and Jasper Taylor on washboard!
