Napoleon was measured to 5 french imperial feet and 2 french imperial inches. That's been translated to 168 cm. (mind you, these aren't british feet or inches).

168 might not sound very tall, but it was in fact slightly above the average height of a french male in the early 1800s.

His height-humour probably came from his nickname among his own troops "le petit caporal" which actually doesn't literally mean "little chief" but rather "friendly" or "beloved" chief.
