BREAKING NEWS!! ZAINE IS FINALLY RECORDING A TOTALLY NEW THIRD ALBUM! After many years he's fully back in music. Latest news posted at zainegriff' new website in the UK. New album might be ready before the end of this year, Also Zaine's first albums might finally be reissued on CD!
Screemer used to play every week at the Three Rabbits, Manor Park, I think he took the Bowie thing a bit far, not that I cared, I was and am a huge fan, all that aside a great performer and a fantastic bass player!
really wierd. this guy shared a fl;at with my late brother Ronny in catford area in the 70,s when he was with pub band Screemer. nice guy. so bowie!anyone know where he is now (2009) ?
When everyone who changes his haircolor is a Bowie imitator there would be many. Beside that: Bowie never works together with imitators so if Zaine really was one, Bowie wouldn't have been coöperating with him.
I'm not saying Mr Griff is awful or any such stuff, but this is SO Bowie-ish that it's almost a parody. C'mon 'Ashes and DIamonds'? $50 He nearly called it 'Funky Dogs'. As for the matter of Bowie's cooperation, Mr Jones is a whip-smart zeitgeist hound, and isn't above using other artists to enhance his own position. I suspect he recognised that Zaine Griff was so obviously worshiping at his alter, that he posed no threat to him.
Scary Dogs?, Low Station?, maybe Zeroes, now, wait a minute, Mr. B did the latter himself, Who needs copycats, when you're a cool one yourself?! Pin me Up!
I have this album on vinyl! Oh Lordy, I remember buying that record at TSS in Babylon Long Island back in 1980 or so. I was also listening to Gary Numan, Bill Nelson, John Foxx and Ultravox at the time. There was a lot of amazing music back then.
Record company of Zaine's first album Ashes and diamonds was Automatic Records. and of his second album Figures it was Polydor. Sometimes there are rare vinyl copies of Zaine's albums and singles for sale on internet. And if I had money... I would try it myself to release all his songs on CD.....
You're absolutely right, Theberlintrilogy. Zaine had a lot of talent and did not seem to try to imitate Bowie, did not even own more than one Bowie record. And with imitators Bowie nevers wants to cooperate - but he did with Zaine, even appeared with Zaine on BBC TV. And indeed Swing shows Zaine's own direction very well: it's the only (demo) clip that was directed and recorded by Zaine himself.
interesting. unlike other bowie clones/imitators Zaine had musical talent and could've gone somewhere big, had he not tried so hard. I mean, by just watching the Swing demo video, you can see he was headed somewhere different.
Did you read the long info beside this song already? And beside the other Zaine songs I posted? Zaine is a well-talented singer from New Zealand. He made 2 albums and cooperated with many famous artists: Bowie as well as many others.

it's a good song, although it would've fitted Zaine better to be more original appearance-wise. i like the little suit though. very cute.
