I saw a page that listed the "worst" metal albums of all time. Among them was 'Nostradamus' by Judas Priest. WTF? I own that one, and it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Then it's Priest's 'Demolition.' I'm not familiar with that. But the author says that Ripper is not worthy of any stage, and that he should've stayed home. EXCUSE ME? Critics can suck it. Ripper is a HELL of a vocal talent.
Why people need to compare Owens with Barlow and Halford? Each one has his own style, his own technique .... they are all great singers, graced with amazing voice .... that is all that matters
let me tell you what I know about this band. I used to be in a band with the drummer and hes just a kewl dude. My bro but both the guitar player ( John Comprix) and ripper were at one of my shows and support their local scene. This is a band full of good dudes, I know cause I met em. Nuff said!
matt barlow is way better,,, he can sing many different ways whereas tim only sings like this... he has no low or mid..barlow can falsetto sing high mid or low rough soft rock metal.... hes perfect.... not to say i dont like tim... tim is badass and i liked his stuff in judas iced earth and here
@MultipleScrotum he has a HIGHER range. not a larger. he cannot sing as low as barlow. schaffer had to drop down some of the old songs so that ripper could sing a higher key on them. power? ive only heard him sing soft or high. matt can sing high low soft rough growl ect. just a better singer.. IN MY OPINION. i dont like shreiking high vocals on every song all the time.
@laynestaley1990 Tim is just as varied as Barlow, and can sing the way low stuff too. Tim does all kinds of different things with is vocals, including things I've not heard Barlow attempt. I'm guessing you have only heard maybe one cd the Ripper has sang on, because if you listen to his vocals variations in his many different projects, you would see his range of ability is pretty much boundless. And as far as power, he can sustain the long highs + mids with much more ease and volume than Barlow.
Ripper is awesome but this is where he belongs. Theres such a stigma behind him because hes been nothing but a fill in and a temp (perpetulflame,jugulater/demolition,glorious burden/framing Armageddon).
Yeah, besides Winters Bane, he's always been a replacement for some of the greatest acknowledged singers (Rob, Matt) and always been passed aside like yesterday's jam. This is indeed where he truelly belongs and truelly shines.
Oh Fuck! Ripper has his OWN band instead of being a leech and latching onto already established and famous bands for a free ride. We're all doomed. Ripper trying to be a legit musician working his way up from bottom like everyone else is the 7th sign of the apocalypse! The end is nigh!
I am a fairly good friend of Rippers, having grown up with him and still having great correspondence with him.....And he did not want to leave Iced Earth.....And as for Matthew Barlow, he is a great singer as well.....So I can't bad mouth him either...I am a true metal fan and writer, so have a hard time badmouthing anyone for no reason.
From what I've pieced together from interviews, etc., the majority of Iced Earth's fan base wanted Barlow back in the band. IMO, he is a better singer for Iced Earth. Owens belongs in a slower, heavier band. Beyond Fear seems to be more of his niche. Iced Earth just seems too "fast" a band for him to tackle. Just my opinion, but I know a fair amount of people that agree with me.
you really think that? i think tim's style is suited perfectly for painkiller-style speed metal, and it worked (occasionally) in priest AND iced earth. the reason for IE fans not like him is basically this: barlow was considered THE singer, much like in priest, but tim's problem is his style was the opposite of matt's, where in priest it was similar to rob's. therefore they didn't do the old songs live, and meanwhile, jon schaeffer has been writing mostly shitty albums...
Most Iced Earth fans are stupid always saying Barlow is a better singer Tim Owens is a much better singer and it will always be that way, Iced Earth let a good talent fall out of their hands. Beyond Fear Kicks Ass
The problem with Tim in Iced Earth was that he didn't fit in with the music. I agree that Tim is a better all around singer, but Matt is better for Iced Earth.
@Alex13andros dude i know I cant sing like that! Thats my buddy Eric is playing drums in this and he tells me "dude ripper is the first one to get to bed at night to do the next show and the first one at the studio and last to leave". That guy's dedicated and that's what it takes though ya know? its all hear-say but I hear he has a pretty strict vocal excersize regimine (spelled right?) but I think ya need it to be good ya know?
@Twizted134 i think i really need to hear some iced earth. Ripper once came off as a guy like rob halford but when you see what he does, you know.. hes got talent. With all he does, it would be a fucking travisty (spell that right?) if he didnt make it. I met him a couple times and he came off to me as one of those guys that after making it big would like create a record label or something. That what the metal scene needs.

Wow, reminds me a lot of nevermore. And since nevermore is my favorite metal band, i'm thinking i'm gonna buy some of Beyond Fear's cds.
Someone told me this band's guitarist was offered a chance to join nevermore, can anyone confirm this?
