do not think there is any footage of the Thunderbolt. That is the Tornado/Bobs - you can tell by the sharp bank turn during the first drop, and by the sharply banked turns in general (Tbolt has none of these). The Bobs footage is amazing and - like the whole thing - is a great find.
Thanks for posting this! My dad hung out there in the 30s and 40s, Took my older siblings there in the mid 50s. This is the time I remember,in the 70s, This place was rough by then. as long as you stayed in the amusement area you were ok. But getting to the subway could be an adventure.
Coney Island at this time was a place you WOULD NOT go to at night. A very dangerous place. I was born in Flatbush in 1971 and lived in Brooklyn until we moved to Staten Island in '79,but Coney Island was a place my parents drilled into my head as being a totally horrible, dangerous place. Ironic, cause both of them went all the time when they were kids. I finally went in the summer of '84 and I was like "Huh? This place is cool." Of course it was during the day!
Great little doc! I wish the transfer were a little better, but a lot of that footage is a real treasure. Watching some of the Thunderbolt rollercoaster made me feel really strange, as though peering through a hidden door into the past. Thanks so much Phil & Steve!
This once nice play-area for the hard working people of NYC is now a slum loaded with the coloreds and spics.....oh, and chinks, too.

You know, you tube takes HD video. You should upload in HD even if the original footage isn't great. It would still look better than this.
