The first movement so joyous and modern. By 5 minutes in Beethoven has introduced three potential motivs. The third, with its staccato dance rhythm gets me up and in love with life! I cannot help smiling every time I hear it. Then comes the allegretto, surely one of the most yearning things ever set to a musical score. Wow!
Truly amazing composition done with gusto and verve As an 18 nyear old I heard Schubert's unfinished symphony and my future wife informed me to find Beethoven . Toscanini's recordings were available in a complete works. That purchase inspired me to learn and apply myself reliving the incredible accomplishment that Beethoven gave the world My life forever changed by this phenomenon of talent and work
@lupaguy Hear number 5 and 6... now! (seriously, every second you loose is a great loss if you've never heard them before. Your life will be marked before and after having heard Beethoven's 5, 6, 7, and 9).
This so wonderful! Thank you so much for posting this! I'm so glad there are still conductors out there who actually play the FULL piece of music by taking the repeat. As someone who is going the composition route it really begins to annoy me when conductors just disregard the repeats in Sonata form movements of symphonies! You include the repeat and make the whole piece just come to life! Thank you and I hope you continue to produce such glorious music!
@ruo58742 The way I hear it, it has both the intensity and depth of the fifth and the far out reaching of the ninth (and a bit of Ludwig's cheerful style as well). Maybe not as much as those two but the best part is that it possesses both.
This is my favorite symphony by far... I prefer this to his ninth because, while it contains some extremely powerful moments, the ninth loses its beauty at parts. With this one, however, the entire piece catches ones breath and at no point lets it go.
Can someone help me. I am looking for the Beethoven symphony (or movement thereof) in which the orchestra sounds like a 'wave'.. Probably a very vague description but I cannot do better:)
@Crustaceans I love your description! I can totally visualize it... haha! This is my favorite part as well, and also the Intro song to the Japanese Drama "Nodame Cantabile" :)
I rate this version as a close third behind Toscanini and Klemperer. Truely excellent dynamics - the key to the entire symphony and especially the first movement.
Mr. Latshaw, I inform you with pride that your performance of this movement is by far my favorite I have encountered. I am a very nit-picky listener, and in yours I would not alter one note, rest, inflection, nay, not even a sigh.
You make one mistake: at the very end of the piece, you neglect to repeat the entire monster at once. I shall now fix your error by a playlist which cycles this extensively, before continuing the bestest song of all.
@abetv: Well said! The video quality is quite poor, but I'm glad I overlooked that & gave this one a listen. The visual quality cannot do justice to how perfectly this piece was conducted & performed. I tend to shy away from downloading any of my Classical favourites performed by an Orchestra (for listening reasons only). This one has given me new hope. Now I'll have to go back through my favoruites & see if I can find more with this quality.
Bravo. This is by far my favorite symphony of beethoven's, and probably favorite piece of music period. The realness of this video as opposed to say, Karajans, is a big plus. Some just seem like acting. Job well done.
Such passion is evident in Beethoven's masterful work, be it any of his symphonies or other compositions such as the moonlight sonata, etc, and it's good to hear a talented translation of this piece!!
i just wonder who it is and i found out tat is really d person who post it..thunderous applause 4 ya..u interpr8 it d way like other maestro did..but when hear it thousand times it just really ur version and like it.bravo
BRAVO!!!!! *claps hands to Chiaki-kun, Mine-kun, Kiyora-chan, Masumi-chan, Sakura-chan and the rest of Rising Star Oke*. This one I have to thank to Nodame-chan!! I cry everytime I hear it!
We have a local channel here in Florida where if you stay up late enough like 12 or so the local college channel on tv plays some classical and other types of music that you don't get to hear everyday.
I recognize this theme from the Charlie Brown special "It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown!" This is the exact music that Snoopy dances to when he delivers Easter eggs to everyone! Yes, the Easter Beagle Does Exist! And this music proves it!
I just love that part when the flute comes in with the melody around 4:10, and the big crescendo after that. That is my favorite part of the whole movement. Thank you very much for posting the videos!
Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for posting your videos. I don't really know all that much about classical music, but I love to listen to it. I don't really get a chance to go to concerts often due to time and monetary concerns, so it's wonderful to see these shows for free (and from what a seat!) at home. Thanks again.
This version is by far the best one ive heard! Enjoy Latshaw's!

although many says tat Carlos Kleiber's Symphony #7 is the best..mayb Carlos is indeed good in other 3, but i prefer ur mvt1..
sound more energetic, carlos sound more soft.
and i like ur style of conducting .. seems like u r enjoying the music .. GREAT!
