Thank you. I'm specifically interested in the interaction of the three indent elements. I'm also not sure why Word doesn't automatically align the second level of a numbered list beneath the first letter of the first level (or third level beneath the second level, and so on). If you could cover these, that would be great!

In the 23 years that I've been using computers for my word processing, I've never set up tabs AFTER I've typed my text and yet all these examples and others I see on YouTube do that.

One of the most difficult aspects of understanding Word is, IMHO, the tab function, esp. with a mult-level index list.

BTW, I've used Word, WordPerfect, QuarkXpress, and InDesign, and Word is by far the WORST.

There are a couple of reasons we teach setting tabs after creating the document. 1) It takes less time than setting tabs and resetting tabs. 2) We recommend maintaing focus on the content of the document first. Then format.

I too have used and taught many other word processing apps. In my opinion they all are about the same with regard to tabs.

@kbreenbo I absolutely agree with you about Word compared to Wordperfect. That Wordperfect is such an intuitively designed rich wordprocessing package. Never needed instructional videos on how to set margins or tabs.

@kbreenbo I've done a couple of videos myself on setting tabs....reason why they're already typed is that it is more visual. I agree that it's a good idea to set the tabs first but sometimes you need to change them after they're done as you discover everything is not properly aligning.

I also agree that Word is not the best (wouldn't say "worst") program but I still do like my WordPerfect which I find more intuitive/user friendly (and I like being able to see the "codes")
