I think VT's 1999 squad was the best college team of all time, even though we didn't win this game. During that year, they beat four ranked teams by an average of 34 points. They utterly destrroyed Miami, and threw Ken Dorsey around like a rag doll. They were a big underdog vs FSU and still amassed over 500 yards on the top defense in the nation. It was just a couple of injuries to the starting corners that allowed FSU back in it late. VT would have won that game 9 out of 10 times.
1999 was 2 years before that Miami squad even peaked. Ken Dorsey was a true freshman and started only 3 games.
And regardless if you agree or not, Miami's 2001 title team had 11 future NFL pro-bowlers on it. Not sure if I'd count an 11-1 team as the best squad ever.

Too bad the game wasn't 3 quarters long. Regardless, it's sad that us and VT have to cling to moments like this from our history. I say let us both meet in this year's ACC champ game and make it THE most talked about conference champ game of the season and put the ACC back on the map!!! I think VT's 1999 squad was the best college team of all time, even though we didn't win this game. During that year, they beat four ranked teams by an average of 34 points. They utterly destrroyed Miami, and threw Ken Dorsey around like a rag doll. They were a big underdog vs FSU and still amassed over 500 yards on the top defense in the nation. It was just a couple of injuries to the starting corners that allowed FSU back in it late. VT would have won that game 9 out of 10 times.
