  • I used to love it in the summer when I was outside by the chimnea a late at night just listening to this song I loved it so much :)

  • i like it a lot. viva santana. saludos

  • love that sound

  • Looks like that sustain note really hurt !! LOL

  • @tybolini2 haha soul baby, soul.

  • Santana es unico, y el haber nacido en mexico lo hace más unico todavia

  • LOL! A tortilla chip? So that he can have something to eat on while playing

  • PureSantana.

  • A musical genius.

  • O final desta interpretação de Europa com Santana e Shorter é a música, linda por sinal, Ponta de Areia de Milton Nascimento do Brasil do Álbum MINAS e Native Dance de Wayne Shorter com participação de Milton Nascimento!

  • thats a big ass pick

  • At first I thought I was seeing things but apparently Carlos lost his pick and is playing with a tortilla chip anyone else see that at 1:17? Ok so its not a tortilla chip but it could be its frikin huge! Apparently he also grips the pick with his middle finger and thumb and omits the index finger. Never noticed that before. BTW thanks for posting I will probably never be able to go to Montreaux in person but I can still experience some of the magic.

  • God gifted this great man with...soul..which he clearly gives in the music he gifts us with...no one will EVER be able to match his genius... God Bless him!

  • TOCAYO, DE VERDAD QUE ERES UN VIRTUOSO TOCANDO LA GUITARRA. LARGA VIDA GRAN MAESTRO ,DENTRO DE LA MUSICA AMERICANA.

Y QUE DECIR, COMO PERSONA , ENTRAÑABLE Y CONSTANTE CON SÚ VIDA.

DE CARLOS, A DON CARLOS SANTANA, SIGUE ASÍ AMÍGO. IS THE WAY. SURE.

  • مقطوعه رائعه من احلى الالحان الموسيقيه

  • @moooot2015 yes,it's true

  • @palomaemia90

Good question...if I remember correctly I downloaded the song into GarageBand from Itunes, edited it for the proper length and then returned it to ITunes & used the ringtone app on ITunes to upload to my phone. I could be remembering that incorectly however, lol Good luck with it, it's an fantastic ringtone and cuts through lots of other noises.

  • Got hit by a wave of pure emotion at 1:51 and started crying, haha.... man, Santana is just incredible in how he makes his guitar sing.

(Two people were dropped on their heads as babies)

  • The first four bars of this song are the ringtone on my phone...probably among my top five favorite instrumentals of all time. I wish Wayne had had a bit of a solo, because he has the sweetest sax sound and it would wail on this puppy.

  • @MythFaire What company did you use to get that ringtone?.... I can't find it on my phone ...

  • give me the fucking time machine !!

  • montrenx.......doncha mean montreaux!

  • i see 2 justin bieber fan's

  • Desde el meritito Autlan de Navarro Jalisco MEXICO, carlos santana el maximo exponente del rock en el mundo.

  • Carlos is the master of organic guitar - always just a little off meter that makes it a living sound.

  • is that a pick .. or a dorito .. ;)

  • @CHIMIRIS LMAO

  • legend

  • Santana plays this without much thought for Wayne Shorter and that's a shame, but it's one of the great instrumentals of modern popular music and any playing of it is an entertainment. good stuff.

  • VIVA CARLOS DEVADIP - EL MAS FANTASTICO GUITARRISTA ELECTRICO DEL MUNDO.

  • Beautiful!

  • La púa es un nacho? Muy bueno Santana!

  • Very very great..after listening the video of 1980 in Montreux I didn't expect such a superb performance by Carlos....

  • Although i love the music, there is one problem with shorter and santana playing together. Who's playing lead? in most tunes that they play together, santana's guitar sound overtakes shorter's sound. I think another problem is that wayne is used to a piano player(herbie hancock) who can follow him when he takes his solos out of the chords. i bought this two disc set and i was disappointed that wayne was a bit restricted because the rhythm section was not used to his style of playing.

  • i totally agree. wayne is also sooo out of his league its ridiculous (mainly in his knowledge of theory and whatnot) santana is not responsive and doesn't really change his comping style to fit the solo either.

  • 3:30 LOL:P

  • Hey Carlos, is that a pick or a Dorito?

  • it's both!

  • @blakevickrey I sthat supposed to be an insult?

  • @blakevickrey ROTFL

  • As good as santana is Wayne Shorter is a legend and carlos is a good enough band leader that he should know to let wayne play a little bit

  • well most off the times they sort out some tracks for the guest to solo.

  • @mondosolorzano As much of biased statement that was you should know that's Santana's song. Maybe if it was Wayne's he would have let him play more!

  • Santana is authentic

  • Thanks for posting this, outstanding!

  • Did you see the expression in Wayne Shorter's face? He's like; "Dude, did you invite me here to play or what". Carlos is just playing all over the place. Out of respect to the great Wayne Shorter, Carlos should have stepped back and comped behind Wayne to let him jam a little more here. Then he could have traded solos back and forth as the song progressed. It would have been appropriate.

  • i agree with chazzy santana was kinda playing alone.. i was waiting for shorter's solo :s

  • Carlos has the "milkiest' tone of all time. I love his guitar sound.

  • the note he hits at 1:51 is the perfect example of when one note can beat five or six notes... ill take soul over shred any day of the year... carlos u r the man!!!

  • It's not how many notes you can play it's all about making people feel. I love shredding but I'll take feeling over shredding any given day. Santana is awsome!

  • @Rrrrobert808 i didn sleep nor eat for 2 days till i got what he did at 1:51, he has beautifully used the feedback(excess treble sound) and controlled it to give out the beauty.....;)

  • @Rrrrobert808 Shred can have soul. Its just at a faster tempo

  • @Rrrrobert808 without a PRS and top of the line amplification that note dies like a wounded bird... I love Carlos, but 50% of his style is equipment

  • In reality, Carlos Santana has done very well for himself over the years, he's really nothing to prove, sad though he divorced his sweetheart Debra, this is never easy... This is a guy who in his early twenties was touring the world, literally 100's of countries, for his talent and gifting were demanded globally by literally millions of people. Santana band chemistry makes all the difference, Chepito Areas, Graham Lear, Armando Peraza, Kermode, Rauch, Koster, Rollie...are all sorely missed!

  • Santana es la onda....

  • The best album of Santana are : Abraxas, 3rd, Caravanserail, Welcome, Borboletta

  • My friend you should check out Lotus, it features live renditions of pieces from the albums you've mentioned in exception to Borboletta! I've never tired of Lotus, always something new in that album each time I hear it; also recorded live in Japan!!!

  • @cadburyenglishman

    Yes I agree,

  • the perfect humbucker tone

  • that's right man...........a classic tone

  • I think it's home made or something.

  • nowadays there is no concerts like this :(

  • strepitosooooo!!!!

  • I wish Santana would return to his musical roots.

  • me too, now it's just boring pop

  • Cut him some slack. After decades of being totally over looked the man is finally shining.

  • So true! The man is a master! Bring back Abraxas, Borboletta, Welcome, LOTUS!!!

  • @Neidhardt84 like going back wiht javier batiz

  • Shorter is the guy on saxophone and a living Jazz legend who played in Weather Report. You´re simply retarded.

  • @rintintin565

Hey rintintin565.... do a little research before you open your mouth and prove yourself to be an opinionated fool.

Shorter is a musical legend... as is Santana. This particular song was not a good show of Wayne Shorters extensive vocabulary... and I'd have to say I would have liked to see Santana give Wayne a little more space... but your comment 1 year ago was just way unfortunate I hope you did a little research since then... or are you still just stuck at "balls".

  • santana rocks the party

  • Europa, also known as Gia, is the Earth Mother. THIS is Santana's tribute to the Earth itself! It's so awesome when you consider the feeling he's putting into this song and what he's dedicating it to. Viva Santana y Europa y Gia.

  • ooo nice...didnt know about dat^^ thx

  • rrriiiiiifaaaaaaa santana 4ever

  • Listen to Europa in classical guitars

go to my channel is there.

  • SAXOPHONE? GOOD MOVE

  • BRAVO CARLOS SANTANA. UR THE GREATEST

  • fantastic

  • Peace

  • Does anyone know why it's called Europa?

  • It is tribute to one natural satelite - look in wiki. Santana often says a story about it sub title (Earths cry Heavens smile) but EUROPA - it is a satelite ( like moon to our planet).

  • look at all the white people!

  • two of my most favorite musicians on one stage... shorter 'n santana. he, chepito got the same hair.

  • the bassist is alphonso johnson.

  • Take it from this Brother when I say Shorter is much better than that young buck Wooten, but ya know it would be any bassist dream to play one note with Mr. Santanna, and this is one of my Favorites it reminds me of His very early years, Love ya Mr. S. see my fretless w...truckn4jc at blogspot dot com, would love to see Him and Marcus Miller!

  • Wayne Shorter is the sax player....look him up man, a true legend in his own right.

  • That was soooooo fantastic!
