O final desta interpretação de Europa com Santana e Shorter é a música, linda por sinal, Ponta de Areia de Milton Nascimento do Brasil do Álbum MINAS e Native Dance de Wayne Shorter com participação de Milton Nascimento!
At first I thought I was seeing things but apparently Carlos lost his pick and is playing with a tortilla chip anyone else see that at 1:17? Ok so its not a tortilla chip but it could be its frikin huge! Apparently he also grips the pick with his middle finger and thumb and omits the index finger. Never noticed that before. BTW thanks for posting I will probably never be able to go to Montreaux in person but I can still experience some of the magic.
God gifted this great man with...soul..which he clearly gives in the music he gifts us with...no one will EVER be able to match his genius... God Bless him!
Good question...if I remember correctly I downloaded the song into GarageBand from Itunes, edited it for the proper length and then returned it to ITunes & used the ringtone app on ITunes to upload to my phone. I could be remembering that incorectly however, lol Good luck with it, it's an fantastic ringtone and cuts through lots of other noises.
The first four bars of this song are the ringtone on my phone...probably among my top five favorite instrumentals of all time. I wish Wayne had had a bit of a solo, because he has the sweetest sax sound and it would wail on this puppy.
Santana plays this without much thought for Wayne Shorter and that's a shame, but it's one of the great instrumentals of modern popular music and any playing of it is an entertainment. good stuff.
Although i love the music, there is one problem with shorter and santana playing together. Who's playing lead? in most tunes that they play together, santana's guitar sound overtakes shorter's sound. I think another problem is that wayne is used to a piano player(herbie hancock) who can follow him when he takes his solos out of the chords. i bought this two disc set and i was disappointed that wayne was a bit restricted because the rhythm section was not used to his style of playing.
i totally agree. wayne is also sooo out of his league its ridiculous (mainly in his knowledge of theory and whatnot) santana is not responsive and doesn't really change his comping style to fit the solo either.
Did you see the expression in Wayne Shorter's face? He's like; "Dude, did you invite me here to play or what". Carlos is just playing all over the place. Out of respect to the great Wayne Shorter, Carlos should have stepped back and comped behind Wayne to let him jam a little more here. Then he could have traded solos back and forth as the song progressed. It would have been appropriate.
the note he hits at 1:51 is the perfect example of when one note can beat five or six notes... ill take soul over shred any day of the year... carlos u r the man!!!
It's not how many notes you can play it's all about making people feel. I love shredding but I'll take feeling over shredding any given day. Santana is awsome!
@Rrrrobert808 i didn sleep nor eat for 2 days till i got what he did at 1:51, he has beautifully used the feedback(excess treble sound) and controlled it to give out the beauty.....;)
In reality, Carlos Santana has done very well for himself over the years, he's really nothing to prove, sad though he divorced his sweetheart Debra, this is never easy... This is a guy who in his early twenties was touring the world, literally 100's of countries, for his talent and gifting were demanded globally by literally millions of people. Santana band chemistry makes all the difference, Chepito Areas, Graham Lear, Armando Peraza, Kermode, Rauch, Koster, Rollie...are all sorely missed!
My friend you should check out Lotus, it features live renditions of pieces from the albums you've mentioned in exception to Borboletta! I've never tired of Lotus, always something new in that album each time I hear it; also recorded live in Japan!!!
who in hell is that fucken shorter man? could somebody respond. Fuck! Don't ever mention another guy as if it is at the level of santana. Shorter? My balls man!
Hey rintintin565.... do a little research before you open your mouth and prove yourself to be an opinionated fool.
Shorter is a musical legend... as is Santana. This particular song was not a good show of Wayne Shorters extensive vocabulary... and I'd have to say I would have liked to see Santana give Wayne a little more space... but your comment 1 year ago was just way unfortunate I hope you did a little research since then... or are you still just stuck at "balls".
