  • That guy running across the stage looks a hell of a lot like Burt Reynolds. Still a hilarious moment indeed

  • how did that guy get past security..

I thought it was Meathead, from All in the Family, to be honest

  • Most famous streaker ever

  • john cleese

  • BUUUUUUUUUUUURN

  • David Niven. Like a boss.

  • The streaker looks like Earl from My Name Is Earl! :D

  • David Niven FTW!!!

  • Best....comeback....ever!

  • The Niven. The Niv. The N-Unit. Epic win in human form. The most genuinely nice man Hollywood has ever seen, with the possible exception of Hugh Jackman.

  • The way he just carried on improvised with it and carried on normally was great lol

  • Clearly, David Niven handled that rather well!!

  • Oh my god it's alfred melina!

  • New contest: goo.gl\oUcPQ - win Nintendo 3DS Console.

  • What's the name of the music played at 0:30?

  • What's the name of the music played at 0:30?

  • I guess security was off tonight! LOL!

  • thumbs up if you thought that was marlon brando in his godfather character judging by the thumbnail

  • @xinfam0usxplayax Uh, no, David Niven is too great an actor in his own right to be mistaken for someone else.

  • David Niven just made the moment truly great. That's what you call witty English humor.

  • rather sharp retort there boss

  • 0:59 PWNT

  • Hysterical love how David just stays so chilled out and carries on.Class thanks for posting.

  • "Stripping off and showing his shortcomings"!LOL .Love how David stays so chilled and just continues so funny.

  • Oh, he's such a cool cat, keeping his wits about him like that! Props, Mr. Niven!

  • Mr Neiven . What class.

  • @starr522

Class that deserves correct spelling :)

  • "They told me it would be easy to get crack in Hollywood" thank you

  • That dude at the beginning looks like Jerry Seinfeld :D :D

  • BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that might be the funniest thing any man has ever said anywhere at anytime.

  • 0:04 DOCTOR OCTOR GAWNAPUSS! BLAAAA!

  • niven is class

  • David Niven

Actor, comedian, real life war hero... legend

  • its jason lee from my name is earl!

  • Ah, but the host managed the moment quite well, even improvising a cute comment!

  • Ahhh, David Niven, what a legend.

  • David Niven is such a boss.

  • It's jason lee

  • @ScumGoat then he was right about the laughs

  • He was trying to find the Quad.

  • david niven is an awesome actor

  • I read that many actors, when they had time , or were perhaps in a bad movie , contractual or whatever, if David Niven was in the movie they would remark "at least I get to see David today".. Now that is a likable man.. great stuff....

  • "showing his shortcomings"!! BRILLIANT!! Hahhahaaaa!

  • His name was Robert Opel and he was 35 when he streaked. 5 years later on July 7th 1979 he was murdered at his photography studio during a robbery. R.I.P the streaker

  • OMG the streaker is jason lee!!!!!!!!!! (Earl)

  • What an awesome guy! Talk about getting your Oscar moment!

  • Cue the benny hill theme!!

  • Ron Jeremy throwin up the deuces naked on national television. Like a boss.

  • stripping off and showing his shortcomings

  • David Niven. Pure class. Genuine war hero, unlike the many fake ones like John Wayne. Never rose to the bait of the wankers he often had to act with, and never had a nasty thing to say about anyone. Had a horrible shrew of a wife, and was henpecked to death as much as felled by MND. The Niv....legend.

  • Is that the father of the Weather Channel Streaker?

  • Who was that streaker?

  • @tevinli1 A L.A. art gallery owner named Robert Opel (1939 - 1979), who got his 15 minutes as the "Oscar Streaker." Depending on which of several accounts you read, it's still debatable as to whether his "moment in the sun," so to speak, was spontaneous or pre-arranged. He was shot and killed during a robbery at his galery five years later, at the age of 39.

  • The star of THIS particular scene still remains David Niven. The dude still did not steal the limelight. He never did. Never will.

  • Ahh shit look out everyone! It's Doctor Octopus!

  • David owned this.

  • What does it mean when actors tug their ear -is it a signal of some sort ?

  • @VegardMinde Some people do it to stop themselves from laughing, or focus quickly.

  • @VegardMinde no he was extremely nervous because he did not know how to react to something like that , he had to think of something on the spot for something he had not planned. People Fidget when they are nervous, research body language and you will find out all about that kind of stuff if your keen

  • @VegardMinde It seems like people on TV used to tug their ears more in the 70s. Maybe it was the ear pieces back then.

  • as Ben said is was a nervous thing. Although you may also be referring to seeing Carol Burnett tugging her ear at the end of her show which was a signal to her grandmother that she was thinking of her.

  • @VegardMinde as Ben said it was a nervous thing in this case. Although you may also be referring to seeing Carol Burnett tugging her ear at the end of her show which was a signal to her grandmother that she was thinking of her.

  • Damn! That man was smooth! Now I'm even more curious about David Niven.

  • David Niven= legend

  • Short coming is about right for the streaker!

  • ... showing his shortcomings

    oh snap

  • How fuckin' hard does David Niven rule for being able to improvise that, though? Great line.

  • was that on his list?

  • baaaaaaaahahahaahaha he did it at the best time too: "A very important contributor to world entertainment"

  • It really does look like Earl. Got the moustache, the long hair...

Another number for the list I suppose.

  • :53 what's with the seagull in the crowd?

  • @porcelainchic ---that's funny....it does sound like a seagull. It's actually CHER! LOL

  • @porcelainchic ROFL

  • Oh shit, 0:04 it's dr. octopus.

  • @MarkerReviews I know him more from the Paul Thomas Andersen movies.

  • @MarkerReviews Not only is it Dr. Octopus, it's also Reb Tevye!

  • @MarkerReviews Noo i'ts Rahad Jackson!!! From Boogie Nights

  • Streakers--the one-man flash mobs of the 70s.

  • 0:20 streak

  • I could totally see his wang in that shot.

  • Why are they all speaking with a british accent, when it's about some random american award show

  • David had such class.......just kept on going.....

  • in which oscar ceremony did it happen?

  • @teamilker 46th Academy Awards, they have it in the explanation to the video :)

  • A great line, but it was written for him to say if (as seemed likely at the time) that a streaker appeared. It is a credit to David Niven's talent and comedic timing that his response seemed off the cuff. He certainly fooled me that night.

  • Why didn't Earl add that to his list?

  • David's response to the streaker was classic. Now that was the funny part!

  • the streaker looks like Randy Marsh (from "South Park").

  • Co za typ :D

  • I dislike talking heads splitting the video in half.

  • David Niven died the day i was born, a legend died and a legend was born lol!

  • And that concludes our presentation for "Best Short Film".

  • and what was cut that Elizabeth Taylor was standing next to him and said:That's a hard act to follow.:-))

  • Too bad it was staged

  • @lilruss72 I have heard this as well.

  • @lilruss72 oh yes, something like that would be stagged, for audiences to have to see that.

  • Celebrities spend their Money, time, hard work. off from their loved ones to become famous, but Streakers get famous just by running naked for seconds, oh man i love that

  • A perfect example of when British humour is at it's best. Excellent response.

  • You gotta love David Niven!

  • David Niven was class personified.

  • Looks like inventions made by black inventors, you will be very surprised. I'm sure some of them were British as well.

  • 5 years later the streaker died on a robbery :(

  • that must be on the list : )

  • 0:03 DOCTOR OCTAGONAPUS!!!!!!

  • smoothest bastard there ever was

  • what year was this? never knew it happened!

  • david niven dont fucking play around

  • It's Ron Burgundy!

  • What a classy gentleman (I'm talking about David Niven of course). If only I was quick-witted as him.

  • Oh wow! By the look on his face it was as though he knew it were coming or something because he kind of gets a little tongue tied before the guy comes and then he smiles before turning around like he knew what was there.

  • @000sundancer000 Mr. Niven was the man! He was very poised and urbane, in fact, and I believe he could tell right away by the audience reaction that something unusual was happening, so he looked around and reacted with the calm, self-possession and charm for which he was so well known. Then he made an observation so witty that I credit him with helping to bring that particular fad: streaking, to its inevitable close sooner than it might have occurred otherwise.

  • He was so witty! Shame there are not more actors of this calibre around now.

  • Nowadays he would have been tazed, probably spend a good amount of time in jail, and be on the sexual offenders registry for the rest of his life.

  • @festdir why do you say this? what do you think you know that the rest of us dont! iv been in love with him all my life they dont get classier than this.

  • i love what he said right before that happened to. about contributing to entertainment.

  • That was a burn at the end. Like one of those burns you're scared the guy is gonna hit you for. Third-degree burn.

    Don't they sting.

  • dr stranglove

  • This Streaker incident is one of the academy awards most ridiculous moments!

  • Ah Niven, a gentleman and a wit. Wonderful. Someone to whom we should all aspire.

  • He's name is Robert Opel.

  • Best improvisation ever

  • shortcummings lol i get it

  • Fantastic put down.

  • HER FIRST NAME IS HA...HA

  • Streaking was a great movement in the 70's. It was needed.

  • Is the only reason Niven will be remembered?

Shortcomings? Big talk. Well, Niven should've pull down his own pants to prove it!

  • Great new vid on Youtube titled "The Last Days of the Big Lie" youtube.com/watch?v=-48HQpgQRz0

Safer to be in German work camp than German city as cities were being carpet bombed mercilessly.

Dr. David Duke's latest vid- “The Real Rogue Nuclear State” great also: youtube.com/watch?v=KLSlmLx4Fls

FDR vs Hitler. Both took power/office 1933 their countries unemployed 25-30%. 6-8 years later Germany rate 2% USA still 20%. How? Hitler threw off International Bankers they HATE him 4 it still.

  • @2ndSamuel710

    Yup, employed making armaments.

  • Robert Opel.

  • That is friggin' Dave Grohl!!

  • Way to do justice to the hippie sign.

    Gotta love the 70's. :D

  • Niven was a true Briton who also fought for his country in WW2. Something John Wayne never did!

  • @maxiboy666 Niven was quite a character. He was squadron commander of the Phantom Special reconnaissance unit, which did special ops behind enemy lines during the invasion of Normandy. Once, as he led his troops into battle, he said "Look, you chaps only have to do this once. But I'll have to do it all over again in Hollywood with Errol Flynn!" During down time he even made movies and dined with Churchill. I always thought he would have made a good James Bond, because he was James Bond!

  • Clearly the guy staying on the couch just took the wrong turn on the way to the john.

  • does anyone know who that streaker was? and what happened to the streaker afterwards? I assume he was arrested but does anyone have any more info on that streaker? as in why he did it? how he got on stage? ect.

  • @jy826 It was Robert Opel, a photographer and performance artist. He was murdered five years after this in a robbery.

  • @Psifonian2 that makes me sad

  • I bet that the streaker was Ben Stiller pretending to be in the "glory days".

  • One must not forget that David Niven shared a house with Errol Flynn so He was used to seeing naked bodies around him .

  • Embed dammit! I want ppl to see this w/o having to go all the way to the site here

  • genius david niven

  • i read somewhere it was planned. i mean, the guy had the jokes ready, its pretty obvious it was planned.

    still funny though.

  • Did they ever catch that guy?

  • LOL! Did people not SHAVE their pubic hairs back then or something?

  • british are so damn arrogant and dry

  • 0:21

  • Perhaps the best impromptu quip in television history.

  • @twilightzonicstars or was it...?

  • @twilightzonicstars not really...

  • @twilightzonicstars

Just saying, there is evidence suggesting that the streaking, and the quip, were planned by the director of the Oscars.

  • @twilightzonicstars Believe it or not, despite the general belief, it wasn't as impromptu as everyone thinks. As the video notes, streaking at major events was a big thing at that time, and Niven prepared those remarks in the hopes that someone would try it while he hosted the Oscars!

  • i think this guy got shot

    not then obviously

the world is not kind to streakers

    lol

About as useless as Canada.

  • @Takeitoff08 The jet engine, the electric lightbulb, the telephone, the television, the world wide web. All British inventions, now pipe down.

  • @Takeitoff08 British inventions: The Jet engine, the telephone, the television, the first computer, the electric lightbulb, the world wide web...Look up British inventions you might be surprised.

  • @Takeitoff08 John Locke, Isaac Newton, Adam Smith and Charles Darwin were all British, and effectively created the modern world as we know it. No American has come anywhere near the level of influence and contribution these individuals are responsible for.
