Minor complaints? Yeah the minor-est of minor. I am so sick and tired of modern video game reviewers complaining about "difficulty". This Castlevania was a cakewalk compared to the original NES games( and it still managed to be very difficult). Games baby players so much nowadays that when they're hard at all, they get all pissy and look at difficulty as a detriment towards the game.
I do not really agree with this (though very nice) review. Castlevania the Adventure ReBirth deserves at least a 9/10. The music is epic and the whole game looks so luscious whit its gaudy graphics. The gameplay is perfect whit its classic style.
The colours in this game look horrible, only blind person would do a job like this. The colours are more aggressive than the undead and they don't fit the gothic horror setting at all.
I wonder if it can be mended by correcting the TV's colour saturation.
I really, REALLY hope Konami will create more new Castlevania games for WiiWare (or XBLA). The platform seems just perfect for this sort of games. If they finetune the difficulty and fix that awkward jump they have a real winner on their hands.
is it possible to save in this game, or at least or is there a password system, there doesn't seem to be a save feature. i don't care enough to beat it in one sit down
@theSpiritofVengence why do they do that anyways, in this day and age. it doesn't make any sense. what is this, the nes era. I think they forget to add things like that deliberately to annoy people, to deliberately make it not as good as it could be. after all, it's castlevania and they can get away with it.
@Deanobucko917 yeah lol im still playing it right now on normal and im on lvl 5 iv left this damn thing on all week all i want to do is beat this so i can turn my wii off, i keep getting to death with no health lol the lvl is pretty crazy i can get threw the mini boss without getting hit but after that little things hit me oh well im just going to keep at it iv come this far lol i will beat this.... hopefully
Here the difficuly differences are much larger than in other Castlevania games. Easy is VERY easy, normal is challenging (Castlevania 1 level), and hard is just insane, I still haven't got past stage 3.
I have beaten Rebirth on Hard mode. I'm not bragging, but I'm just telling you it's not impossible. It's excruciating, but it's possible if you master the learning curve. :)
@BingoBird4 axes kick as and are very usefull sometimes like for instance the big golem boss fight on lvl 4 you can just throw axes up at his stomach without having to climb his arm and jump on him to attack him.
I fucking love your reviews, you have a pleasant voice to listen to and i do like the more in-depth review of yours. would be awsome if you did a remake of your super castlevania review which I thought could be better.
Castlevania Adventure sucked big time. I remember I had it as a kid and after playing the console versions (yea I know it was early GB so I can't be so critical), I was totally not into the handheld version (you walk even slower than the console versions?). I'm glad they remade it in this fashion and the music is awesome. If you're going to do a modern remake, why would you keep the old music? I wasn't very attached to the GB soundtrack. This is supposed to be a throwback and it did its job
EXACTLY! The reviewer had the EXACT same impressions of the music as me. I thought it sounded like a Sega Genesis game, particularly Ghouls N Ghosts, like he said. But you know what? I actually enjoy it, because I grew up playing Ghouls N Ghosts for Genesis.
Also, Aquarius is probably the most epic track in this game.
I significantly doubt they're going to make more Castlevania Rebirth games. The Rebirth series has always been a "one-shot" kinda foray, like a kickback to familiar Konami franchises. It would be a disservice to that old-school homage to now start pumping out more vintage games based on the old formula in the Rebirth series.
Now, if they actually made NEW games and not remakes/re-imaginings, we'd be talking of a different bag when it comes to Classicvania.
This was a pretty fair review but why did you show so many spoilers, seriously, i haven't played the game yet so i had to turn my eyes off the screen.
That's nice, so it's not released in Europe because they want to release in on the 20th anniversary? This is BS because it would mean waiting for about a whole year.
The game looks very good and I hate the regional restrictions of the stupid Wii. The only console that does this crap in this generation.
Well, but at least the X360 games get released in US and EU at nearly the same time. This is due to Microsoft not having a significant Japanese market, so they can't just ignore and disregard Europe the way Nintendo does.
no not rly i got an USA Wii and an EU Xbox it's 7 months im waiting Blazing Blue getting release in EU for the Xbox still nothing the games take too much time to reach Eu no matter wich Console ur blaming for it
What hidden bosses? I thought there were none. I know you can skip sub-bosses...but which bosses are hidden?
Also, great reviw but just a note: When showing clips of the gameplay, how about NOT showing scense from the ending or spoilers of Dracula (i.e. his last form). I had already finished this game so I wasn't affected, but to someone who hasn't downloaded this game yet, seeing those scenes could potentially ruin their experience playing it.
I dunno what you're on about, the music is awesome. I'd listen to these songs all day over the GB's tinny music. This game was fun, and I beat it in a single playthrough without continuing. I found everything to be just fine control-wise. Jumps were easy to pull off, and if you think they were difficult, perhaps you need to fire up an NES and play some old Castlevania games to remind yourself how the controls used to be...
Castlevania Adventure for GB BAD!!!!!!!!!!! Because it's slow as hell.Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth is GOOD!!!!!!!!!! IF Castlevania Adventure for GAME BOY wasn't slow it would be good.
Kwing, how is the DVD coming along? I am looking forward to buying it when it comes out. Also are you going to make shirts like other reviewers do? (Ex. AVGN)
First, why are you calling Castlevania the Adventure as "Legendary Game Boy port", have you played it? It's IMO the WORST Castlevania game ever! Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest was confusing and Castlevania for N64 was frustrating, but Castlevania the Adventure for the Game Boy is beyond frustrating. According to story, Chritopher Belmont hundreds of years old because of his "strong blood". Confused? It get's worse!
Well anyways, Chritopher has lived hundreds of years in the mountains in complete solitary, but now he has to defeat Dracula and conseive the next descendant to Belmont family.
So in other words, Castlevania the Adventure is a story about a thousand year old corpse fighting against 10.000 year old corpse to get laid. NICE!
But I haven't even talked about the gameplay, it sucks! Christopher walks slower then regular elderly people, wich actually makes sense because He IS hundreds...
...of years old. However, gameplay ways it sucks, because all the enemys in this game are two times faster then Christopher. Everytime you get hit it downgrades your whip wich makes the game frustradingly hard towards the end (trust me, I know).
But the thing that kills this game is the platforming. Because Chris moves so slowly and all jumps have to be made with perfect, and I do mean perfect timing, it causes player to die constantly. Lack of secondary weapons makes the game even more crappy.
I actually played this game all the way to last level (Level 4) but never defeted Dracula. Why, because his castle is a death trap with spikes with instant death and even more frustrating jumps, not to mention that Dracula has flying bat second form that is next to impossible to hit without getting hit and the boss of the first level is now regular enemy that you have defeat 2 or 3 times before you can face Dracula.
So Kwing, do you actually like this carbage? The only good thing to say about the Game Boy game is the music. That is also why I agree with you that they shoud've remake the music from original game. The music that I heard in this video is kinda crappy.
Second question: Why did you mention Vampire's Kiss? Don't you live in America? You guys got Dracula X and we Europeans Vampire's Kiss, but they are both identical, right?
Yes I liked the Adventure on Game Boy it was different then the console cv games at the time and hard as nails. But beat able. Like Fall of the foot clan, it was Konami's 1st portable Cv game. Now better CV games came out after Adventure. But I would still put Adventure over Rebirth. As far as naming it Vampire's Kiss, atleast 4,000 of my fans are from Europe,Germany or Ireland. So I threw that in for fan service for them. In the states the game was called Dracula X.
hmmm maybe I'll give this one a shot...after all I'm probably the only gamer that HASN'T played a Castlevania game in his life...anyway, great review as always Kwing!!!
This game is good, but if you haven't played a Castlevania game before I recommend you to download Super Castlevania IV for the SNES instead, that's the best game in the series (in my opinion) and it's only 800 points.
If you haven't played game before try getting Super Castlevania off the virtual console for 800 Wiii points. Then after you get used to the series pick up this game. While this game is ok for intermediates, it was mainly fan service for Castlevania fans. So I don't think its good for ppl who have never played Castlevania cause in this day and age they won't understand why normal and hard are very frustrating. Its very different from games today, how they are push overs. This game isnt.
i see you make a very good point. games are pretty easy today, after all the only Mega Man games (find them quite challenging) I've beaten are 1,2, and 8. Anyways, I was thinking about getting Super Castlevania 4 as well, so I'll start with that. Thanks guys!
ooh come on Kwing ! what is your problem with games with hard difficulty not to be mean or anything but ..come on now ! don't you like challenging games ? and besides the game is not in possible to play also the music dose not sound like the ninja turtles theme i don't know what made you got that idea ?
Yes I do enjoy challenging games. But even I won't play classic cv games on harder difficulties cause I don't spend a lot of time on one particular game anymore. The music uses similar chord progression and adds the Arcade flam effect or eco effect. But its not from the percussion. But I don't know what musical effect is called, I just woke up so my brain isn't function 100% this morning. But this composer worked on Turtles Arcade and the arrangement is CV and Turtles Arcade games.
i guess that's understand've we all don't have the time to play one game sometimes and all that
also i did read somewhere the M2' team company that made ReBith games did use a hardware graphics technology thats very simmer're to what they use on a 16 bit system hardware which my guess is that the graphics and sound is like the old 16 bit systems which is i think the music and sounds sega genesis and or a MSX japanese computer
Great review kwing, seems like a awsome wiiware game. I was actually going to buy this today but the wii points cards were all sold out for some reason. just my luck :(
Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth is a good game, but I felt that the music sounded more like it came from the SEGA Genesis. It just drones on me on why some Wiiware games cannot have any great music that comes from the sound qualities of a SNES game. I agree with you on that, Kwing, but it is a fun game, nonetheless. Great review.
Hmmmm the video is having issues with Youtube? Well it wouldn't be the 1st time. In a little bit this video will be available on screw Attack. I don't understand why ppl can watch it the 1st time and then have it give the error message.
