  • I got goosebumps and teary eyes on 7:40. When i was playing on this part, I can't stop my tears rolling down.. One of the saddest part..

  • An amazing masterpiece.

  • Playing first bassoon for this. So much fun!

  • The cymbalist totally CARRIES THE TEAM here.

  • who is 4th chair 2nd violin?

  • 1:22 the conductor's not fooling anyone with that combover

  • Dear God, I'm terrified of playing this music now.

  • @pt109lover No this was composed by Tchaikovsky. The ballet is composed by Prokofiev.

  • Not bad, LSO - almost as good as Cleveland and Maazel.....

  • @winrx haha LSO is 10 times better then Cleveland

  • @winrx The LSO is one of the best orchestras in the world much better than the CSO inmy opinion.

  • Beautiful. :D

    ...now time to practice.

  • 5:55 - I've just been attacked by a wild bear and made it alive!

  • @martimtavares except romeo and juilet are dead, thats that part where one decides to fake suicide and the other believes it and dies while the other wakes up and commits real suicide. sad =P

  • @kirill429 spoiler alert

  • @martimtavares lol silly.....

  • At the end, the conductor's like "Yeah, you all better clap."

The orchestra's probably like, "We hate this guy, he needs to gtfo."

  • Best performance of this work I've ever heard recorded or live.

  • I have listened to several other performances of Romeo and Juliet and the Trumpet C natural at 8:20 has been in all of them. I doubt several trumpet players all made the same mistake.

  • Is there a love button? Anybody? Love button?

  • Best cut off ever

  • Where is the 1080p? I did not just dump $2K on a sound system to listen to Tchaikovsky in 480p. Oh the humanity!!!!

  • The cymbal playing is exactly right. They have a tendency to sound too bright against the rest of the orchestra and Tchaikovsky loves to overdo their use in my opinion.

Keeping them a bit subdued is a brilliant idea.

A bit fast in places, typical Gergiev, but exciting and wonderful playing from the LSO.

  • @8:20 lol trumpet

  • @TheLasko94 it's written like that

  • @nadal007isme It is a fail, but everyone fails sometimes :)

    Check the partiture:

    page 78

    bar 518

    ;)

  • beautiful music by the LSO, terrible fucking conducting. How the hell do you follow that shit. No wonder we are trained to use our ears, so we don't have to look up at Mr. Epileptic Seizure trying to conduct 2/4.

  • nice performance...far be it for me to criticise, but 8:21 after all that effort...how does one of the WW misread a B as a C nat. when playing a B major chord at the end....terrifying mistake lol!

  • @mf4251

  • @mf4251 is tht true? r u sure tht thts not wat it actually says on the music? i'd be so surprised tht LSO would make a mistake like tht...

  • Is that somewhat of a radical style from the conductor? (Absolutely no criticism intended, just an observation)

  • this is for my own reference, ignore, don't mean to bother anyone.

    1:55 audition spot 1

    3:00 audition spot 2

  • @shtywallman Ahh! Thank you! Audition Spot 2 was what I was looking for haha! :)

  • The conductor looks like the guy who burglarized the convenience store in the corner last month...

  • @Curatica I agree. Valery Gergiev is a great conductor, but he does look as if he is about to rob or has robbed a convenience store.

  • AMAZING AMAZING!!!!! 1.50 and im dying!!!!!!!!!

  • can anyone tell me the parts of the bassoon cause i have to play it but i always get lost with the counting. :/

  • lol at the end. hes like... " holy shit.whew thank god"

  • why this cymbal player plays in that way...horrible,this is not the right way, where is the "shine" stroke, what the hell is this??

  • @MrRbjunior83 I agree. I've never seen cymbals played that low. It should be done at chest or eye level, with particularly loud bursts made with a large flourish, amplifying the sound outward (and thus making that 'shine' when they catch the light). A lot of people don't respect the artistry of crash cymbals; they're a sadly underestimated instrument, like the triangle or bass drum.

  • @IdleBigots and @MrRbjunior83 Who are you guys to criticize the cymbal playing of the LSO percussionists... British cymbal playing is one of the finest styles of cymbal playing there exists.

  • @IdleBigots im sure tht there is a reason behind tht since a professional percussionist from LSO is doing it...

  • @IdleBigots For the spot between 1:53 to 2:02, it is not possible to be done in eye level. It is neither a "let ring" nor loud bursts spots with large flourish but a strong and fast dampen spot.

BTW, in 4:44, he did "shine" the cymbal...as what u have said...I dun think he did a bad job

  • Sensational. Now the two people who voted negatively to the video must have a bad taste in music. How can you not like a marvelous work of Tchaikovsky? They're crazy.

  • 5:53 LOL

  • A finer version of this overture in my opinion.

  • This piece should be played at a relatively slow pace in regards to the density of the musical material to be heard. Karayan is unsurpassed and Celibidache is to be recommended even if the tension rendered of the interpretation can be discussed. Gergiev play it too fast in the first place.

  • May I never realized it before, but at 8:21, is the chord supposed to start on a m2 then climb down to the root?? Maybe it's just a trumpet flubb...I can't tell if the whole orchestra is doing it or not...

  • @pnewcombutt It's a mistake

  • @hiroyoshi00

Ahhh OK. It does actually add a split second of tension though ;)

  • @pnewcombutt No. In the actual score (or atleast the one i've played from) for it it's not meant to be a m2.. Trumpet mistake I think. :)

  • At 2:42, is that an oboe or a clarinet?

  • @johncool182 Oboe.

  • I love the pace from 2:31 to 4:03, it's like a rush of emotion and my heart beating so rapidly as we feel each other's presence, meet eyes, and then finally... the kiss.

  • Боже мой!

  • Who could have possibly dislike this masterpiece? |:

  • too fast

  • Wahnsinn

  • hes not actually conducting sometimes lol

  • valery s face at 7:39 ....right corner at the bottom...wooooow!

  • This man's hear would'nt stay like he wanted! XD, a very gorgeous piece of music!

  • 6:35-8:15 is my favorite part of the piece....so pretty ^^

  • 3:03 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Es preocupante cómo está Gergiev. Por su salud lo digo, no por su música.

  • The most feeble Romeo ever with truely amateurish playing woefully conducted. If you want to hear a real performance try the Boston Symphony with Abaddo on DG, and get this abortion out of your system.

  • @philopus94

    Did you take your medication?

  • Without wishing to appear frivolous or detract from the wonderful music beautifully played, this the first performance I have seen where

    a) Elvis Presley plays trumpet 4:55

    b) the conductor changes the side his hair is parted during the performance. 4:50

  • why does the RAH always look bigger on telly than it does when ur inside there?!?! :s

  • At the end, 6:00 is like a heart beat. Amazing.

  • @alexhope77 Its meant tobe a funeral drum for Romeo and Juliet who have just died, hence the fragments of the Second subject A (the love theme)

  • bbc allways comes out tops lets not forget the sound & lighting & the camera men many a good performance is spoiled if the technology is lacking samgee11

  • Sure sounded like somebody in brass section blew a chunk at 8:22.

  • the build up to 3:48 is just epic!!!

  • This is amazing!!! O_o

  • 1:56 is the face of sheer concentration. Bravo, mister cymbal dude. You make it

  • @Treijim He kept the whole thing together :L

  • Just a tad too fast for what I am used to...this entire piece should come in around the 22:00 - 23:00 range. 20:00 doesn't do it justice. There are several notes throughout the piece that should be drawn out longer for effect. After having listened to it for the better part of 30 years, I'm sure that is what Tchaikovsky would have wanted. I give this performance a 9 out of 10. I certainly can't knock it...but I can give it my personal critique.

  • This is on my Leaving Cert, thanks for posting it! Much appreciated!

  • bravo gergiev is the man!
