i take Tien Shan Pai kung fu in north america (MD), and I can tell you this much, the kids i study with as well as myself have a lot of self discipline due to the fact that we get physical punishment (50 push ups and sit ups) if we don't perform accordingly. Therefore, we have learned to discipline ourselves in martial arts, as well as out of martial arts (school, etc.)

So you cannot say teenagers in north america lack discipine to learn properly.

That's not completely true. Many public and private schools today have fencing clubs and activities (Similar to Kendo, but with Foils). As long as the sport is approved and you have a teacher leading the club, I don't see why you can't start up a fencing/kendo club.
