This song is taken from one of the great films of all time, featuring three indisputable pop cultural icons of late twentieth century: jean-pierre leaud, joe strummer and kirkby's answer to greta garbo, margi clarke, who gets to utter the killer line: "The working class has no country..." Unable on DVD. Form barricades in the street made from adam sandler box sets. Then man them.
I saw "Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten" today. Man a great documentry, Joe Strummer was one of the larger than life figures that transends time, If you havent seen it I recomend you do. I'm gonna get the dvd, because its worth watching over and over.
Yep, he sings so much better than what Johnny Rotten does. I hope one day all the rare Joe strummer songs that appeared on soundtracks all end up on the one album.
this is proof of why joe is a great singer. look at the emotions he puts in his voice, so influential, makes me wanna grab my fender and sing my ass off.
I haven't the foggiest idea why, but I want them to play this at my funeral. In fact, I want my funeral to be the grand finale of a lifetime of audioterrorism, in which everyone I ever knew will be herded into a cathedral and made to spend as many hours as it takes dancing in the aisles to the complete works of H.H. Joe Strummer. Mwahaha...
This song has been greatly appreciated because of this youtube post. I don't know if I would have come into contact with it otherwise. Thanks. I keep coming back, its the only version of the song I know how to get.
I hired a contract killer is a brilliant film....I'd forgotten about this clip n it, thanks for posting.. Is it available on DVD? I can't find it anywhere..
I know! too bad its on an album I got. but it sooooo crappy i will not mention the name. The quality is WAY better here. too bad. I'm a long haul driver moving things the cops don't know.. . . love it!!!
Thats most likely why its called a signature model...its a copy. I belive though it called a tribute as i assume they didnt gets strummer permission to make a signature model.
I personally don't see the point in Joe Strummer Guitar (no offense personal opinion), its just a 60's tele with some scratches, unlike say david gilmors strat which has some custom features, such as the shorter tremolo arm. But your right, i dont really see the point, i assume its called a tribute rather than signature because that Strummer did not take part in recreating it.
i made my own strummer fender except mine is stratocaster. it was wine red before i took of all the paint with a lil blade every single layer which was 3 layers then i started sanding it and it turned into a dark grey black with the faded stripes you can see the actual wood on some parts of the guitar. its like playing strummers guitar except i made it my own. like strummer once said " suck on that" fender
i met joe twice, the first time i didnt know who he was, just some scruffy wierdo standing next to me watching the Pistols waiting to go on stage with his band the 101ers, the second was a week before he died, such a kind waem man, and he reckognised me.....thanks for the drink joe, rage against the eternal darkness, and never, ever go quietly. your friend.
wow,, Joe has always insapired me even before i knew what music was as a kid i had an mp3 with some few tracks i had 4 tracks from the clash,, Jimmy Jazz, All the young punks,, White Riot and death or glory,, The Clash learned me to injoy lots of world music.
FENDER has been releasing a replica of this instrument!! complete with sweat marks + dings + and bashed up spruce top. Mick Jones is seen playing the original telecaster during a tribute...a disturbing sight ! Strummer married a girl who needed U.K. indefinite leave...Did it for money, he needed the dough to buy the black tele...the ceremony lasted 5 minutes and he spent 8 years looking for his wife in order to divorce her...
@torgeirbrownies Pure human soul. When I listen to his music or hear his voice speaking the only thing I can feel is that 'this is my humanity, this is my tribe'.
This song gives me chills. When I wake up and look out over this vast expanse of suburbia, forest, desert, city, prairie and the road stretches out and my soul goes with it. This song. This song captures that traveling--not just physical, but spiritual. Calling us to connect with it.
I think the only album that has this song on it is "Jukebox - Music In The Films Of Aki Kaurismaki", a 2CD collection... Great song, one of my favourites from Joe. Didn't he do some other song in that bar scene too?
"You are the last of the Buffalo". What a treasure. Magic Strummer. Check out the video for our song 'The Shakedown', it was inspired by Joe Strummer.
Thanks so much for uploading this clip. I`ve been trying to buy a copy of the movie just to get this song! I`ll still get the movie `cause Aki Kaurismaki is a brilliant director (he`s the sunglass salesman in the clip if no-one`s mentioned it before) but for now this song`s a real treat.
The gentleman in the skinny black tie who walks in an orders a drink is Jean-Pierre Leaud, best known for his role in Francios Truffaut's The 400 Blows when he was 14 years old. The fellow in the brown jacket at the bar is Nicky Tesco, best known as the lead singer of the members.
