I agree that she wasn't that consistent or the most talented, but I really admired the fact that she created innovative programs. She set herself apart from the dozens of other skaters who hovered in the 10th, 11th, and 12th spots (or lower) at worlds due to her avant guard quality.
The most awkward kiss and cry area I've ever seen in my life. Those chairs look horribly uncomfortable, and the glass table beside the chairs makes it look like they're in the lobby of a modern art museum. Wtf?
I really wanted to like this performance and I think Tara Lipinski is one of the worst champion skaters of all times, but all I see here is a disjointed program with horrendously telegraphed jumps, traffic-cop-like movements, and a complete diregard for music.
I actually think Tara's performance here was MUCH better,,,Laetitia had good speed, bad spins, awful positions, and always did like 75 Bajillion crossovers,,,
When I saw this and Laetitia was in the Kiss n' Cry, I always thought it would be a perfect lipstick commercial! lol Especially at 5:53. I loved this skate!
She owned the choreography so much better here than she did at the Worlds the same season :-s Lovely performance, though. I'm so happy for Laetitia that she had this great achievement.
Actually, FrozenHermit, I don't know if you've ever seen Hubert live; but she is fast and has very high jumps, and when she was "On" (which admittedly wasn't all that often) she was very impressive, more so than Lipinski with her little girls jumps. This medal was much deserved.
Actually, I dare to disagree again. While I am no fan of Lipinski, this being a Hubert "on" night was difficult to behold. She didn't plan as many triples as she could have and after the Salchow, the landings looked rather shady, note the hand down even on a double axel. I appreciate her unique spins, even if they travelled a great deal and her sense of artistry. She's not better than Lipinski, technically, but I think she's far more talented. She gets some great speed.
I agree. The program was a great one for her. Very innovative choreography, but as Dick Button comments at her 1998 Worlds performance, "lots of arm movements..." A few shaky landings, some innovative spins, but not the best positions or speed in those spins. Nonetheless, she has fantastic speed and coverage over the ice.

Anyone that can make it to 4 Olympics is doing something right. Laetitia is an amazing skater.

please......Tara could beat her with ease!

Does not matter. She didnt beat her on this night and that is all that matters.

This was a great win for Hubert. She was one of those dangerous skaters who could beat anyone when she's on.

Still, it wasn't an impressive performance at all.... Lipinski could have beaten it in her sleep, it was just one of her off nights.

Yeah, I guess I didn't consider that. And Laetitia pushes off the OUTSIDE edge on her lutzes, wheras Lipinski usually changes to an inside edge.
