This sheriff is a genius. He did this deliberately in order to fool the parents into thinking he was on their side. In reality, while he was giving this interview, he already knew it was a hoax and was trying to entrap the parents into giving a confession.

i know it's absolutely retarded news, but the fact is, millions of tax payers money was spent on the case, and people will be outraged about this being a hoax, so they have a right to know about it. The sheriff did a good job.

They didn't want to spook the family until they had proof so they pretended to be "on their side." They told the father to come by the station and pick up his balloon. That way, they were able to separate the family and interview them one at a time. They did a good job.

Look at the size of the balloon. It is impossible a balloon that small could lift a 6yr old thousands of feet in the air. I noticed that immediately. Its STUPID, as stupid as us humans get. What about new reports that family did NOT call FAA first, but the local news. C'mon. An interview is NOT an investigation, especially with a family used to hamming it up in front of cameras.
