Thank you so much for posting. I have been wondering how to show the vet what my cat does, because she never does it in the clinic! But now I don't even have to go to the vet, because you've just show me that it's asthma. Thank you again. Does anyone know of a natural remedy for asthma?
Thank you so much for sharing! I took my cat to the vet because she does this occasionally and her breathing at rest is a bit abnormal. Were not sure if she has asthma or not, we'll have to do an xray to determine for sure, but this video did help and I think that is most likely what she has.
I've been very successful giving my cat prescription medicines by mixing them with food (as long as it's not a really bad tasting med ie: tramadol). I've been doing it with Predinisole. It's a little bit of work, but I put the pill in a folded napkin and crush it with a spoon/hammer whatever, and mix the pill with a small amount (approx 1 1/2 tbsp) of chicken baby food. It's worth the work not to have to try and pill my cat.....which he hates!
our cat does this too.... the thing i do to ease the breathing is press gently on her windpipe. it is helping her breathe.... stress and other stuff is causing it we know. We have 3 male cats that chase her around and... well yea...
@HellmanChase Have you taken your cat to the vet? My cat only has to take predizone which is really cheap and he doesn't have attacks any more. He is a lot healthier and happier without the attacks.
omg this makes me wanna cry for SOOO long my cat would always do this and me and my dad always thought he was like gonna puck so we chucked him in the kitchen or bathroom so he would not puke on stuff but after he did and i found our only a year or 2 befor he died that it was cat astma and i feel soooo bad for like running and chucking him in the kitchen i bet it made him sick. Im like crying thinking about it right now. after i found out it was cat astma i was there to comfert him.
@AngelBabe2233 He died last year but he lived a good 13 years even with the astma he did not have it as a kitten. We never hurt him putting him in the kitching. just would grab him and put him in there i just i feel bad maybe i was Shuishing his guts :( R.I.P. Rica love you forever you were the best kitty i ever had :) <3<3<3
Thanks for posting this! My 3 ur old cat has been having these attacks for a while now but we've always thought it was a hairball that he couldn't get up. I took him to the vet immediately after seeing this video and he was diagnosed with asthma after some xrays were done. He too got the steroid shot. He hasn't coughed since being home :)
My cat this and I took him to the vet and they said he had lung worms and when the worms are active, it makes the cat cough. They gave me some drops and it went away.
Poor sweetie! I had a cat a long time ago that did the same thing. I had no idea it was asthma. I thought it was just a plain cough. He always got over it pretty fast. I'm very glad to know exactly what this is now. It will help me in the future with the 6 cats I have! I sometimes think I know everything about cats, but no one knows everything, huh???? Thanks for the informative video!
I feel for the cat. I have asthma and know what it's like when you can't stop coughing. I get these mini attacks where I can't stop coughing and you almost throw up. Good luck kitty!
My cat has this too. sad. but i think its just he was allergic to the litter, then is set off the asthma. we got rid of that littler and hes much better.
@adam234613 My cat is doing the same thing, and I suspect it's asthma. I'm calling the vet tomorrow. I've also decided to stop using ScoopAway litter because of the dust. May I asked what kind you switched to?
Good job! I took in an adult cat a year ago and found out he has asthma too. Poor kitties. Having a video of my cat to show the vet would have helped diagnose him much quicker.
My baby has been at the hospital for a week with breathing difficulties. Started off looking like he was trying to get out a hairball and rapidly worsened over a few days.
They are not sure if he has lung cancer, chronic asthma or inflammitory bronchitis, so it is useful to me to see what a cat having an asthma attack actually looks like.
Hiya - my cat has started having coughing like this too, so I just took him to the vet. Do you mind if I ask: How did you confirm that it was asthma? Did you have to do a chest x-ray? And how often do you administer meds? Poor kitty cats. Thanks!
I'm not sure if they did an X-ray. The vet listened to his lungs and could tell right away. Plus he had all of the symptoms...the attacks (she looked at this video), and what we called "humming" was actually hearing him breathe which is another sign. He takes predizone (sp??) in the morning and night (pill form). He takes it more willingly now...he has gotten used to it. It has helped a lot. No more attacks and we don't hear the humming any more.
Thanks so much for this feedback - my cat didn't have any weird lung sounds. He also doesn't have any humming or wheezing, so the vet thinks it's only mild asthma. Still, this is really helpful!
omg, I was searching on asthma video's and find another one like this. I didn't know this could be asthma attacks. My cat does it sometimes too, I just tought it was a hairball or vomitting but there comes nothing out. He is overwheigt too and he's on diet food but after a year he is still the same weight. Now I seen this thing I'm more scared, the weighproblem is more serious than I thought :(

Are you going to put kitty on an inhaler? Steroid pills are very dangerous and can give him diabetes.
