So from the Narnia quote. I take it you think its better to live as a christian wetter Christianity is true or not.
. So the primary reason for your beliefs are to make your self feel good.
.
Thats great if it makes you happy, buts its useless to does that cant forget reality.
.
Is it better to have lived or never to have lived at all? All does that have never experienced see experience as a terrible thing. You wish to exist because thats all your capable of understanding.
I like you. You seem like a nice person, but I do not believe that the miracles of the bible ever happened. The fact that we stopped seeing these kind of miracle, like the parting of the red sea ect, at about the same time we were able to PROPERLY document them should be a big red flag. You would think that if god truly wants us all to believe in him he would perform these kind of miracles now? "That would remove the need for faith" some people say. I think it would instill faith.
@whoopiman Miracles like parting the Red Sea or walking on water are actually few and far between in the Bible when considering the whole narrative's timeline. They are there, I believe them, but many people neglect to note that centuries go by without miracles occurring in the Bible. So to me not seeing a major thing at the moment isn't a big deal. Although I do believe miracles still occur, it's just not a literal mountain moving and so on.
@biblegirl It is true that quite some time passed between a lot of the miracles in the bible, but let's face it, they were still fantastic claims that fall waaaay outside the realm of reality. So wouldn't it be reasonable to expect god to come up with at least one more major miracle in 3,000 years? I'm not talking about uncle Joe's cancer dissapearing overnight, or some other kind of vague occurence, I'm talking about something that would remove all doubt. I really believe that most people
@whoopiman (Continued) Also I don't think it would necessarily instill perfect faith. Since you brought up the Red Sea let's look at the Hebrews in the Exodus. They viewed the parting of the sea, they witnessed the plagues, yet still their faith wavers. They created a golden image of a calf after seeing all that and worship it. Few people in history would have a better understanding of God and still even with the evidence they can't hold on. Faith doesn't need a miracle, it needs trust.
@biblegirl (continued) don't really believe that those things actually took place. I think in their heart of hearts they have to be saying to themselves. "No Way". My brother is a devout Southern Baptist and he rationalizes a lot of these crazy claims as being metaphors, but I think whoever wrote the bible intended for it to be taken literally. You point out how rare those miracles were, but that still doesn't give them any validity.
you lost any credibility when you quoted the chronicles of narnia. i see now how your brain works. funny how the bible and that book you are holding are made up of the same crap. how about doing good for the sake of doing good and not because a book or made up person tells you to. bible and evidence is the foolish concept. the ultimate scam of our planets history!!!
I totally agree with you on all these counts. Thank you for being brave and putting up with all of the negative feedback that christians deal with when speaking up. Thank you for being awesome!
I can understand the appeal that religion offers in relation to the human condition. But I could not accept an idea that is weak in support if only because of how "nice"it seems. I think that rather than hoping to be able to one day enjoy the proposed fruits of faith today it is far better to better pursue the truth. And it is better to work to improve this world than it is to daydream about a better place. As an atheist, I look around and think we should improve the human condition for all.
Your statement assumes that I find no fruits in my life right now. There has been much that being involved in church has given me. I have amazing friendships, people who offer great kindness to me, and the satisfaction of doing the same all b/c of my faith (which I think is very true b/c those in my family w/out my belief system have major issues including jail, kids multiple partners, no education past HS if that, & so on). Not to mention the amazing love I do feel from God.
I feel bad for you. You seem like a smart girl. I just hope some time in the near future in you life that you will understand that you don't need a safegaurd to live by. I used to have faith, but have realized some things within the catholic faith are just as jaded as life can be.
The bible you speak of, the NEW testament, was revised in the middle ages by kings bent on power and making sure that their rediculous demands be obeyed by the people through the teachings of the bible.
For instance, the "laws" set down in the bible that most Christian people still to this day believe is evil in every which way. That big example I'm talking about is homosexuality and how it is not accepted in the church just because some political figure thinks it is disgusting.
They are people and they deserve human rights. Not allowing them to marry each other or love each other is against anything that Jesus or God whould stand for. If Jesus and God is in everyones hearts then that means that he is in EVERYONES hearts including all the unwanted, unlicked, shunned people sancioned by the church. I don't mean to be offencive or trying to troll on you but I figure that maybe since I think you have the potential of independent thought, you might find this interesting.
The New Testament was chosen by people earlier then that. Sure it wasn't "official" until a council but a great deal of the churches used it in a form quite like it is today. Also I have very well updated scriptures with manuscripts found more recently discovered and my own Greek text which I have gone through and picked at before
Just because I don't like something doesn't make it untrue. I don't like that there's poverty but it doesn't stop the fact that the world is like that. I don't like Hell but it doesn't stop it from existing. There is a point to it, a just God can't leave evil unpunished.
Well I believe it. I see truth in it and I have my evidence. I didn't just spin a wheel and pick a religion I see it as the ultimate truth but if, and a big IF, I'm wrong I think my way of life is still valid and good
I'm going to try to do good regardless of who is right. I love Jesus even if he were just a man. I don't think Narnia is a good reference for truth. But you are a kind person and that is a great plus. I can't help but be truthful in my comments. Bless you.

I grew up at a baptist church. The thing is nobody gets what I mean b/c there are probably 100's of different kids of baptists. I believe my church's technical denomination is conservative baptist. We aren't southern baptist or the kind that doesn't believe in dancing. Basically it's very Christ centered, our one thing (this is why we're baptist) is that we don't baptize anyone until they accept Christ, so no babies,& we believe baptism isn't required for salvation but still a mandate from God.
thats cool i live in GA so there aren't alot of assemblies of god churches but my dad has been a kids pastor for 15 years so its pretty cool to have dad thats a pastor thnx for you time and the cool comments talk to you soon byeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@biblegirl I don't agree with your assessment that you're "helping" kids by indoctrinating them. These beliefs you are poised to push on these kids are beliefs that you admit could be false, but you wouldn't care because the alternative is too "sad" for you to deal with.
Your positive energy and positive intentions would be better served without silly superstition misguiding them.
You seem like nice person with good motives but i dont know how you can claim God or the bible makes you that way if you have read the bible. Exodus describes a horrible god and condones things that i'm sure are abhorrent to you.
i have never believed in god because i can't understand why god would allow such evil things happen. i would like to believe and could you try help me to believe.
Okay, so I'm going to make a video for you but for now there is something u could look at. Lee Strobel was an atheist newspaper reporter whose wife became a Christian. In order to understand her he went on an investigation. His work can be found in the "Case for.." series, his first is called the "Case for Christ." After his investigation he discovered God was real. It's a little dry but great info

Thor, Ra, Yahweh, Jesus, The Great Dragon, The Raven, Zeus?
What if there IS a god, and you're not worshipping the right one?
Beside that, do you think god really created you just to have you dedicate your existence to it?
Live your life, worry about the afterlife when you cross that bridge. God obviously isn't here shoving a bible in your face right now is he(or she or it)?
Enjoy life to its fullest, dont live in a sheltered house.
As for helping people, you can do the same things without believing in a deity.
I've always been a person to hold a door open, donate to charitys, help a person who's car has broken down, etc. And I have no religious faith. Religion just stop your mind from critical thinking.

This is what science and rational naturalism have done for the past few hundred years, to much greater success than religion ever did before it. Carpe' diem.

I believe in Freya because i have faith...when it all boils down to it, biblegirl, thats all you have an it's blind and foolish. Why don't you believe in Thor, Biblegirl? He's real to me, why isn't he real to you? I've prayed to thor and he's answered me...and if you don't pray to thor you will burn forever. Realize how sill it is no matter what god you worship.
"god is a god of justice and the price must be paid" and the price for a number of finite sins here on earth equals to an eternity of suffering torture and anguish from a just and loving god? Talk about an evil god....a two faced god.
It isn't sad, it is inspiring. You sit there in your chair, in your controlled climate house, you have access to enough food to be overweight. You have access to all the information in the world via the internet, fantastic literature as well. And you sit there, and say the world you live in is not good. I feel so sorry for you.
While you say your religion allows you to make the world better, that is subjective. For many Christians a world without homosexuals would be a "better world"
It's funny because I can see that passage as an anti-pascal's wager metaphor. Still, that's the subjectivity of fiction for you.
"...a good deal of evidence, how accurate the new testament is, I think there's an opportunity that it's true." Um, you admit it's not really convincing evidence then?
You act as if Scripture is all I have as evidence. i have real life experience and the call God's Spirit has had on me (I invite you to watch my vid Confessions of a Former Army Girlfriend to hear more about one of those times).
Well I spoke on it b/c the Bible is the foundationary evidence we have and it really is quite accurate also there's a lot of extra biblical works. One of the best is the Jewish talmod, there's a whole section where it wants to discredit Jesus (& although most is "tabloid" like fake gossip) it speaks about Jesus' powers coming from the devil. They never deny Jesus could do "magic" or miracles. Nobody in His time or directly after did if they were there! They had to discredit that power w/Satan.
This is a bit of a big topic to relegate to comments so I'll make this my last one on the subject and possibly give you a video response instead.
Tacitus doesn't attempt to discredit Jesus but he doesn't describe him as messianic either. Jews have a vested interest in discrediting and demonising Jesus so the reaction in the Talmud is hardly surprising. I don't dispute a historical Jesus, only a supernatural one.
That could very well be true but all I know is what I've felt & it's different then just a time of intensity or a rush of excitement, the feeling God places on me is totally it's own entity. Also I never deny the fact that people of other faiths have religious experiences, Satan loves to play games w/people.
So from the Narnia quote. I take it you think its better to live as a christian wetter Christianity is true or not.
. So the primary reason for your beliefs are to make your self feel good.

Thats great if it makes you happy, buts its useless to does that cant forget reality.

Why would you not want to believe this world is the end?
First off, would you really want to live FOREVER, not like, a million years, as it seems.
Literal eternity. An eternal life would be a hellish torture, even if in heaven.
As FVR said, just because you want something to be true, doesn't mean it will be/is.
Why would you basically admit you dont care if you're wrong? to waste all that time/effort on church, bible study, etc.
Why not live a regular life, without having done such?

"...a good deal of evidence, how accurate the new testament is, I think there's an opportunity that it's true." Um, you admit it's not really convincing evidence then?

You act as if Scripture is all I have as evidence. i have real life experience and the call God's Spirit has had on me (I invite you to watch my vid Confessions of a Former Army Girlfriend to hear more about one of those times).

I act that way because that was the only evidence you talked about. I will, however, check out the video you mentioned.

I look forward to you expanding your thoughts. If you do a vid I'll do one back for you b/c ur right this is hard to keep w/in comment limits

We call God's Spirit endorphins.
People of other faiths feel similar feelings brought on by chemical reactions.
Sorry.

That could very well be true but all I know is what I've felt & it's different then just a time of intensity or a rush of excitement, the feeling God places on me is totally it's own entity. Also I never deny the fact that people of other faiths have religious experiences, Satan loves to play games w/people.

your accurate book of contradictions has nothing to do with evidence.
