Travelling back to an earlier time - no cell phones, no computers, no atms, just booze and music played on vinyl and a nice easy pace. Ozarks still big downunder.
I really wish the classic hits station here in Cincinnati would play more of their music. The only song I ever hear from them on the radio is "Jackie Blue", which really isn't their best in my opinion.
@Oldiesmann Someone I know there. The city I live in here isn't that large and everyone knows or knows of nearly everyone living here. It was an attempt at humor on my part, that you should know the only person I know in Cincy.Sorry if I confused you. :-)
I HAVE BEEN THROUGH HELL AND BACK THOUGH MY 45 YEARS OF LIFE AND I HAVE BEEN DEAD 3 TIMES AND DIVORCED HOMELESS STRUNG OUT HATED BEEN HATED AND THROUGH IT ALL THESE GUYS HAVE KEPT ME ALIVE WHEN I WANTED TO DIE AND SAVED ME WHEN I TRIED TO KILL MYSELF THEY WERE ALWAYS THERE GROUNDING ME
@akibaforyou I almost don't know WHAT to say to this (I haven't been THERE--never been married, or homeless, let alone DEAD (maybe strung out a time or two too many, but it hardly qualifies me)...except to say that this is quite a testimonial indeed.
definitely brings back memories of a less stressful time in my life, ahhh, the memories, amazing how, when we sit quietly and listen, music becomes the soundtrack of our lives and brings back the times as though it was just a moment ago....
I was 16 at the time and I fell in love (literally) while this song played in the background. A memory that has stayed with me all through my life. These guys will forever be a part of my memories and if I want to go back, I just plug in and turn it up. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
To the feller that posted this: I don't know how old you are but you sure have good tastes in some old rock and roll. This band is from my home state and many of us oldsters remember when these guys played local clubs! Thanks
Fab album;had this since late 70s.Not listened to it for years. This song popped into my internal jukebox today-just had to refind it again.Cracking job. Thanks!
@Mulsanneandkink917 Completely agree - Watermill, You Know Like I Know, It's How You Think - the only album in my collection with three 6-star songs (out of 5).
Argh...and it NOW occurs to me I must explain something about "A Lesson In Love": The song of his I'm referring to is the one heard on his 33rpm vinyl LP "East of Midnight." This is NOT the song played by "Gordon and the Two Tones"--very similar titles, yes, but entirely different in content....
Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for bearing with me....
Having now waxed on about Vince, I'll also opine that even one--single--well placed note can sometimes make all the difference (hardly an original thought with me, I'm sure--it's just one I happen to agree with): Listen to Gordon LIghtfoot's "A Lesson In Love" off the original vinyl (not the CD), and you might agree--there is one note, played on a synthesizer and held throughout the entire first stanza which again takes the tune to a higher level, in the same way the split octave does here.
I must have a "thing" for descending scales heard as "falling water"--one of my other top three tunes incorporates something similar, although considerably more complicated (musically): It can be heard in a jazz instrumental entitled "Skating" by the "Vince Guaraldi Trio" (Vince plays that particular descending line on a piano too).
I would have to describe that one as the musical equivalent of "gently falling snow," rather than "dripping water."
I had requested this song a while back, but closed my account (then) somewhat before it showed up.
Did see it show up not long after though, thanks.
I opened a new account within the hour, and so I wanted to offer a big "THANK YOU" for this one once I was able to do so--I've been enjoying it for the last several months.
IMO it's the single note piano "octave"...the musical sound of "dripping water"...which takes the tune from merely great to that last level of "magnificent."
You have a most insightful grasp on this song. Completely agree and thankyou very much. I was introduced to this band by my very good American friend, was bowled over by their songs. So I made sure I put most of the requested ones up. Thanks for your huge appreciation, this also goes to everyone else. Fantastic fans for a fantastic band.
Thanks so much for posting some of the great lost music of the 70s! Brings back some great memories of a great time! I have Watermill posted on my favorite play list.
Yet another gem by the OMDD"s...ahh yeah....

Listening to today's popular music, I find a complete lack of the beauty and grace found in a song like this one.

There are at least three great songs on "Men From Earth": Watermill, You Know Like I Know," and "It's How You Think."
This album should be in everyone's collection, IMO.
