My father worked at a mine and was fired and he did not have a job for a while and we almost lost our shitty little house. But today my father owns his own business and is successful. I think there is a bit of naiveté when it comes to the idea that anyone can become an entrepreneur. You can only secure a loan if you have collateral, and not all white people let alone black people have that. So you already have to have some market power, therefore, again you address structural issues, or, ensure that people can get microcredit without anything behind the loan. Also, there are lots of poor, unemployed whites in SA now. This is an issue of class not race.

I agree that black people in South even after many generations of a democratic freedom in this country, will not have had the same chances as white people. i am a white person and most of my friends are white and they would probably agree with me.the problem of employment for white youth entering the market is a big one, but most black youth would not be competitive in the market without BEE due to their lesser educational opportunities. so its kinda a catch 22 situation.

this leads to the problem of young white people struggling to find employment and often having to take large pay cuts. i met a guy with a microbiology degree who is a waiter cuz no one will hire him. i do agree however that if one is proactive a business can be started etc. however ive accesed my oportunities and i can earn 3 times as much overseas in new zealand. with free medical and eduction. so im leaving sa reluctantly to find a job overseas where ill be able to support my family.

Stereotyping is the biggest flaw in your argument. I am white, yet we didn't even have hot water or electricity, we had to eat pigs organs. My father worked at a mine and was fired and he did not have a job for a while and we almost lost our shitty little house. But today my father owns his own business and is successful. You can't say "just because you are white you had an easy life", there are white people with more hardship than you can ever imagine but they still don't use it as an excuse.

I agree that black people in South even after many generations of a democratic freedom in this country, will not have had the same chances as white people. i am a white person and most of my friends are white and they would probably agree with me.the problem of employment for white youth entering the market is a big one, but most black youth would not be competitive in the market without BEE due to their lesser educational opportunities. so its kinda a catch 22 situation.

I think he means white people had a better path to follow if they wanted to open their business during apartheid or if they wanted health care or education, they had better quality. That doesn't necessarily translate to an easier life but it's what you do with the resources available to you and it seems your father did well whereas a black man in his time assuming he was in south africa, wouldn't have had the same opportunity.

I think there is a bit of naiveté when it comes to the idea that anyone can become an entrepreneur. You can only secure a loan if you have collateral, and not all white people let alone black people have that. So you already have to have some market power, therefore, again you address structural issues, or, ensure that people can get microcredit without anything behind the loan. Also, there are lots of poor, unemployed whites in SA now. This is an issue of class not race.

There seems to be this view that under apartheid whites were living in a utopia with the highest standard of living in the world. The truth is that it was no different to that of whites from western countries like the US canada etc.
