The fire doesn't kill them because, like in all musicals, what's going around them is likely not happening at all how we see it. it's the visual and musical representation of what they're feeling. Like in Sweeney Todd where he's parading around the street and slashing his blade, and no one seems to notice. Musical narrative.

Jeremy Irons is an amazing singer...I've listened to this song 10 times now, in a row, while doing homework, and his voice just gives me goosebumps - in a good way. Haha. But did you guys know Jim Cummings filled in for Jeremy after the line "You won't get a sniff without me!" Poor Jeremy threw out his voice :( Amazes me how Jim can mimic Jeremy's voice so well, you can't tell the difference. Either way - Be Prepared = FANTASTIC song.
